To celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the world's most renowned movie monsters, Toho are releasing a new Godzilla film, entitled Godzilla: Final Wars. Starring the Big-G, Rodan, Mothra, Minilla, Anguirus, Manda, Kamakiras, Kumonga, Hedorah, Gigan, King Seesar, Ebirah, Monster X, Kaiser Ghidorah, and GINO (Godzilla In Name Only, or Fraudzilla - basically, the American tri-Star beast). This will, however, mean the end of the current "Millennium" series of Godzilla films, and it is not specified when the King of the Monsters will return.

The thing that most fans will enjoy is the first 'man-in-a-suit' vs. CGI monster fight, as Gojira faces his namesake.

Sum41's "We Are To Blame" will appear on the film's soundtrack.

Quote:

Godzilla (or Gojira, ゴジラ) is a kaiju. Kaijū (怪獣) is a popular Japanese term referring to monsters, especially giant monsters as portrayed in Japanese fantasy films, more precisely termed daikaijū. The similar term kaijin refers to human-like monsters in related genre.
...
The name "Gojira" is a combination of "gorilla" and kujira, which means "whale" in Japanese.

GOJIRO

Thanks for the jab at my moniker, Manti.

I actually got it, however, from Mark Jacobson's AWESOME book, GOJIRO. I erroneously assumed Mr. Jacobson was using Godzilla's Japanese name, but now I think he probably dropped the A for the terminal O in order to avoid a lawsuit from Toho.

So thanks for the not-so-gentle correction, and God bless.

Either way, Godzilla rocks. Gojiro rocks. It's all good.

I doubt it's anything personal, gojiro. It's just that Manti always feels the need to correct any mistakes he spots.
Trust me, the last class I was in with him, he even corrected the lecturer!

Should be interesting to see the first CGI v Suit monster battle. Did something similar on JP3, with the Rex v Spino battle, except that was animatronic v CGI.

To prove my point...
'fianl' & 'millenium' = 'final' & 'millennium'. Let's see how fast he corrects it...

Sorry gojiro, I didn't mean to be so blunt. I have all of the tact and social skills of a hung-over rhinocerous...

Gah, damn you GK!!! I've updated the original post, but I did make those mistakes.

I shall hang my head in shame...

GOJIRO

Dude, I misread this "well-hung rhinoceros" and got a good laugh.

Actually, I'm glad to have been corrected, since I dislike disseminating false information. And as one who has bluntly corrected others in the past (particularly on matters of grammar and punctuation, on this very board) and made undeservedly sharp comments about certain writers (again, on this very board), I suppose I am due a serving of my own foolishness now and again.

So thanks for the correction, and long live Gojira! (See how I'm using the 'a'? I think I've grown.)

I'd probably be more excited if I didn't expect the fight to be fixed.

A Toho movie, featuring the Toho Godzilla versus the Raptor. This's gonna be the most unsatisfying thing since Godzilla versus King Kong.

Especially since I like the Tristar lizard.

FREAKYSINS

See, I loved the actual monster from the American movie... he was everything I'd always wanted from a giant mutated radioactive lizard, at least physically; lean, fast, and mean as hell!! Unfortunately, just like everything Devlin and Emmerich lay hands on, he wasn't taken seriously enough, so basically Godzilla himself looked and moved like a badass, and the rest of the movie sucked, particularly the whole death scene with the bridge.

Oh, and the baby 'zillas? Puh-leez.

If they'd called it a remake of "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms" it would have been fine.

Of course, all IMHO.

The American Godzilla movie = good monster movie, bad Godzilla movie.
The only reason it was called Godzilla was for higher B.O (Box Office, not Body Odour...). If they hadn't called it Godzilla, true, perhaps not so many people would have gone to see it, but they wouldn't keep being blasted.

Well, it did lead into the awesome Godzilla cartoon series, which (IMHO) redeemed the whole baby 'zillas bit.

The radioactive fire-breath is back!

Godzilla: Final Wars has been released!

http://www.kaijuhq.org/GFW.html

This site has a review and synopsis of the film, but it does contain MAJOR spoilers. However, it has a section near the top that allows you to view the appearence of each of the kaiju featured in the film.

Again, if you want to view the profiles, there are also links on this page: http://www.kaijuhq.org/G50news.html

Be warned though, that the profiles have spoilers as to what happens to each Kaiju in the movie. However, it is easy to avoid reading them, as the pics are at the top of the page.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I loved Godzilla movies growing up, and my son is a big Godzilla fan now. I will of course have to see this one.

The U.S. release date shows 11/29/04, which has obviously passed. Has anyone seen this film yet? I have not seen a trailer, or even heard about it being released anywhere nearby.

That was the world premiere.
It probably won't get a general release in America until after the Japanese general release.
