Howdy. As you may or may not be aware the Farscape Mini is airing this Sunday and Monday on the Sci Fi channel. It has occurred to me that although there are plenty of Scapers who are big Firefly fans, the reverse may not be true.
So. This is my proposal: Would any Browncoats who were not originally going to watch the Mini be willing to if you were guaranteed that a Scaper that was not originally going to see Serenity would go? A sort of exchange program, or a sponsorship of fans supporting each other’s shows. This way Scapers get more eyeballs for the Mini, (which I have been told you do not have to have knowledge of the history of the show in order to enjoy. It is newbie friendly), and Serenity gets higher box office numbers. Win win.
So who is in?
Please.

well I find this all very confusing...because frankly I can't imagine you wanting to skip 'Serenity' even if someone is too ignorant to know that Farscape is a great show!

But I will admit that I am a new Scraper...
I loved Firefly from day one because I was already a BtVS & Ats fan,
but I didn't watch many new sci-fi shows
(I had been disappointed too often)..

However a few weeks ago I went to a link
TheSpaceSite.com to participate in a poll
and I was impressed with the love that Farscape had inspired.
So when the marathon started I started watching from the first episode...
and I am completely hooked!
I just saw the Looney Toons episode! OMG!
That is right up there w/Joss' musical Buffy episode...
I am having sooo much fun!
So thank you to all Farscape fans for turning me on to this great show.

This sounds like a great idea. I never really could seem to get into Farscape, and gave up near the end of season 1, but if my watching it helps out Scapers, and they in turn go see the movie "Serenity", than sure, count me in.

Like you said, it is a win/win situation.

Hey, y'all!

I just joined your site today in response to JAM's plea for support over on www.watchfarscape.com. :D

I am a Browncoated Scaper. While I was indeed planning on seeing Serenity, I am now planning on seeing it multiple times and dragging a different person to each viewing. I love Firefly (mmmm Mal... mmmmm Jayne...) and I love sharing my favorite things, so it's a win-win.

However, for the sake of this little exchange program, I'll definately catch the mini.

No need to beg! Sounds like a great idea. Always willing to support quality SF, in the hope that someday the execs will get a clue and realise that at least some viewers would prefer intelligent stuff to Andromeda etc.

To be honest, I probably would've been a 'Scaper too - I liked what I saw, but never caught it regularly enough. And then it was gone, and it was too late...

Just one question... anyone any news on when it's going to be aired in the UK? I don't have access to Sci-Fi here at Uni, but for a mini-series I reckon my parents could be cajoled into recording it for me

Sadly, the BBC haven't even decided if they're going to show PK-War yet *cries heartily* And if we're waiting for Sci-Fi UK to air it... *whistles*... hope you don't mind waiting a couple years. In past, Sci-Fi UK has been about a year or just over a year behind BBC2 airing Farscape.

Anyway, that said, I am a HIGHLY dedicated Scaper, have been literally since the first time Farscape aired in the UK. Ironically, I always described Farscape to my Buffy-savvy pals as "Buffy in space".... then, along came Firefly, from none other than Joss...

I'd advise anyone to watch it, even if there wasn't a Firefly reward in it, you'd still find it enjoyable.

And for those interested, the trailer can be seen at http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/farscape

Hope to see you guys watching! And hopefully, one day I'll be able to watch it too. I've been waiting for two years for this... hopefully UK TV will one day hear my tearful plea...

I'll be honest. And I'm really stepping out here by admitting this, but I was so into Farscape that when I saw the ads for Firefly back in '02 I immediately wrote it off as a Farscape knock-off and didn't watch it. A friend showed me the pilot off the DVDs over the summer and wow, was I ever wrong!! I mean, talk about eating my own words. Firefly's awesome and I really think that if you like Firefly, you will like Farscape.

I was sorta in the same boat as you, NicolaClarke-- Farscape looked pretty cool when I ran into it, but I never saw it regularly. Since then I've seen most of the series and have been really impressed with the writing (which, incidentally, is why I adore Firefly.) And the acting is really impressive, too-- those folks got serious chops over there.

Incidentally, for those who weren't around right after Firefly was canceled, I'll mention that a bunch of the Scapers showed us a lot of love whenever we were first getting organized. I really encourage anybody on the fence to check out the miniseries.

I'm setting the TiVo right now. :)

It airs Saturdays at 5pm on SPACE (I don't think a lot of people know that).

I do though have a plan for some kind of public viewing in Toronto since a kind scaper is recording it on DVD for me. I'll keep you posted. :D

Yeah, there's no doubt the Scapers were unjustly slapped down at the end of season four, but I gotta say, I envy those 88 episodes... makes our cherished 13 look a bit thin. *sigh*

Especially considering that Farscape kept getting better and better as it went on - makes you wonder what Firefly could have done if it was given multiple seasons (or heck, even one complete season) to develop.

Or you can watch it with a friend, or at a bar.

Hey, great idea! I was already planning on seeing both, but it's fun to see Scapers and Browncoats work together. My family just rolled their eyes (and made me buy a new VCR) when I announced I was hooked on Farscape (due in fact to artwork, of all things, that I saw over at heroinechic.net while looking at Firefly wallpapers) and was going to tape the marathon. Which I'm only partially caught up on (just watched relativity...sigh) because of school--no SciFi up here, getting the tapes a week late. Meaning I have to wait unti I can get home to get the mini...so, thanks, uisceboo (typing the whole thing 'cause it's fun to pronounce) for the no-spoilers post. Glad it's as good as I was hoping!

I missed the first few episodes of Firefly because around here it was on the same time slot as Farscape. I loved the first part of the mini. My boyfriend called the second it was over so I could explain everything to him, which usually goes the other way when I need him to explain comic book characters.

But here's a question. If enough people do watch the miniseries, will it bring back the show? Or is there no more Farscape after tonight, no matter what?

The producers have hinted that there may be a possible movie... but it depends a lot on how well the mini does, and how good the DVD sales are.
Also, it would be a nice to Skiffy if the mini got fantastic ratings.

Edit: If it isn't too much trouble you could wander over to Amazon.com and request an email notification for when the Mini DVD is available. They keep track of the interest... and we want a lot of interest. Thanks.

BTW- if you missed it and didn't get to tape it, they are airing both parts agian Sunday at 3:00 pm. Nice way to spend an afternoon...

I was just a puddle of goo for hours after it ended... :goo:

In answer to your questions, Brian Henson has said that he wanted to wait to see the response to the mini (more the fans' response than the actual Nielsen ratings, but I'm sure those will also be a factor), but that he wanted to make more. The things we've been hearing from him and from Ben Browder are feature film and/or spin-off series.

If you're at all interested in seeing more, you could send him a nice note:

Or you could visit www.henson.com and send them an email asking for more.

Well, part one of the great Scaper/Browncoat exchange has been completed. Now I start looking forward (even more) to that frelling big damn movie. Shiny!

GRUESOME

I am apparently in the minority, but I thought the mini-series was pretty bad.

My wife and I had rented the first 3 seasons and watched them over the last month and a half and got about half-way through the 4th after it was released a couple weeks ago, but watched the mini-series anyway...

I don't know why everyone thought it was so good. Perhaps it has been a while since everyone saw the series?

But as someone that just watched it, many of the episodes for the first time even, the mini-series was a large step backwards in plot, dialogue and character development, IMO.

And without wanting to go into spoilers too much, the whole "Rigel Situation" was just plain stupid in my opinion. Added to that, today is my daughter's first birthday, so it was exactly a year ago that my wife was in labor, without drugs, giving birth... When she saw Aeryn running along blazing away, baby underarm, 4 minutes after giving birth, she just burst out laughing at the absurdity of it...

Yeah yeah, blah blah blah sebacians recover instantly...

I'll stick with the more likely culprit, bad writing...

*shrug* The Rygel situation was no more or less insane or stupid than any other situation they've been in over the last four seasons. It was more or less a disposable gag (except when Aeryn pulled her gun on him during the "wedding" - that bit was too classic), but they can't all be gems.

I noticed Aeryn chuggin' along after too - I didn't think Sebaceans = tough-ass. I thought Aeryn = tough-ass.

To me, the whole thing came off as though they took their whole Season 5 planning storyboard (which I'm sure they still had), put it in a vacuum packer, and told that story in four hours as best they could. It made it a little uneven at points (the miracle appearance of Jothee threw me for a loop personally), but it's still the finish that was planned and was worth telling.

GRUESOME

No argument here that fans deserved better closure than they had.

It just seems to me that a lot of bad writing is being forgiven towards those ends...

And the Rygel thing still seems waaaay over the top for even this show to me.

Understand that you are replying to someone that just rewatched the introduction of Scorpius and all the beginnings of the great storylines of the show within the last month...

So compared to the Farscape *I* have been watching of late, this stood out in stark contrast as amongst the worst I have seen...

But, I am honestly not looking to convince anyone of this. If you enjoyed it, great. I am envious. I am just a bit surprised that no one else felt this way.

UNCHARTEDOUTLAW

Honestly, I've not seen the whole thing and will be able to better comment on it later this week. But from what I've seen and how excited I am to have Farscape back even for just 4hrs, it looks damn good. But yeah, it's true that they more or less had to pack all they wanted to do in the 5th season into the miniseries.

I agree that the whole baby business was absurd, no matter how you talk about genetically engineered soldiers
but that doesn't detract at all (IMO) from the brilliance of most of the mini series...

the homage to the film '2001' was one of my very favorite moments!

So inspite of minor disappointments (I hoped for a last minute redemption of Sikozu w/her using her radiation power again...), I feel that they did a brilliant job of winding up the whole worm hole arc with a lot of humor without sacrificing the important characters and relationships...

GRUESOME

I'd be interested in understanding how I'd feel about it without ANY of the baby business...

In retrospect, its the vast majority of what I didn't like. I can forgive the sudden and miraculous appearance of D'argo's(spelling?) kid as things like that I am fully willing to write off to having to crunch a season down to 4 hours.

But I just felt like EVERY cut to Rygel killed mood and pace. Not to mention the cliche of the baby in the first place. It is CLASSIC "jump the shark" material in a regular series. (If you don't understand the reference, its a long story...)
... and here they shoved it all into 4 hours in a way that just kept killing mood for me.

Anyway... I've said my piece. I suspect that most people are willing to forgive them these things for the closure they got and that is ok...

Its not like its the first time I have watched something and found it bad only to see everyone around me raving about it! (*cough* BattleStar Sex-Lactica *cough*)
