I just read this on the SciFi Channel's SciFiWire:

Quote:

SCI FI Channel will air every episode of Farscape, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET/PT Oct. 1-15, in advance of its upcoming four-hour original miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, which premieres at 9 p.m. Oct. 17.

Good review for the fans, I suppose, but not terribly helpful to new viewers. Shorter marathons with a longer lead-up time would have been more accessible.

Thanks for spreading the word. I missed LOTS of episodes due to SCIFI's odd airing schedule, so this is a nice way to catch up. . . .

yeah I'll be taping, and watching at a more convenient rate.. I'll just make sure I've seen them all before 10/17th
(that is when they air the mini series, right?)

I've never watched Farscape before but it does look like fun
(not FIREFLY fun of course, but still fun will be had)

Dunno the exact dates of the miniseries--it's on the schedule at scifi.com, if you do a search.

Farscape is, well, WEIRD. I watched it pretty religiously at first, as it was so fresh and different, and I liked the characters. After awhile it got so weird that it sort of lost me (and I've got a Ph.D. in literature so I'm pretty good at understanding stories!) so I wasn't that bummed that it was hard to find and aired unpredictably. I wouldn't rank it as great sf, certainly NOT up there with FF or with the superlative Babylon 5. But it was fun, and the character dynamics are really enjoyable--there is a bit of similarity to FF in that way. And some of the wackiness reminds me of Joss; lots of episodes really push the boundaries of "reality," and the show was really good at poking fun at itself.

So take that into account as you watch, then post and let us know what you think!

I just looked at the tv schedule and noticed that the Sci-Fi channel is not showing the episodes in the same order that they're in on the dvds, but they are sort of in chronological order - not exactly, but close. So the viewing marathon may be a little confusing as some episodes are shown out of order. However, it should still be a good way to catch up on what's happened before the mini-series comes out.

I would love to watch this marathon. I've only seen bits and pieces of the show, and I know I would like it if I could see it from the beginning.

Can't rent it either, because of the way the episodes are arranged on the DVDs. Netflix allows you to have 3 discs out at a time, and the episodes bounce from disc to disc, i.e. episode 1 on disc 1, episode 2 on disc 2, or a similar pattern. I'd have to watch an episode on one disc and return it, get another one, return that and then get the first disc again. Too much hassle.

Unfortunately, without TiVo this huge marathon ain't gonna work. Videotapes only hold at the most 6 hours, which means I'd miss too much.

... of course, we in Canada will not get to see this great stuff since frellin' SPACE "the unimaginative channel" is only interested in selling thier own crappy Toronto productions.

Yea, I'm bitter.

Farscape, like Firefly, is obviously a terrific show that was basically not given much of a chance by tptb. It's gratifiying to see that the Sci-Fi people know when they have made a mistake and give us something like this to make us love them and thier channel.

Hey... we just need a reason.

about the different EP orders:

I think there was a different EP order in season one. so it was aired differently than it is on DVD but the DVD order isn't 'wrong', you don't need to switch DVDs. just watch it the way it comes on DVD. the first few EPs of season 1 are pretty much interchangable in order. it only starts later on that it get's arc-y. I can't remember if it was like with Firefly were they aired it in a different order the producers wanted it to air. maybe someone else remembers.

and if I haven't said it: I love Farscape.
it's wild, it's weird, it's fresh, it takes lots of chances. the characters are interesting and always evolving, the interaction is interesting - the lack of a leader for instance, they live pretty much in anarchy and it seems to work mostly. the stories are fastmoving and longlived. the continuity is mostly great.

you need to listen while watching and maybe rewatch and watch in order and with brain switched firmly ON and with an open mind and then it will all make sense and it'll be wonderful. they don't show everything and when they cut something it's not something that doesn't need repeating anyways because there's nothing repeated most of the time. it goes fast forward without forgetting its past.

they live in a universe where not everything makes sense to everyone, Rygel said it to Sikozu in S4, when they were shrunk to action figure size. Sikuzu was theorizing that this wasn't possible because either the bad guys reduced the amounts of molecules in their bodies and that would lead to their brains being to simple to function or the shrunk all the molecules in their bodies but then they wouldn't be able to breathe normal air molecules. Rygel said to her to shut up and stop behaving like a child. it doesn't work to analyse why something that's clearly a fact can't be. he's been around a few years and he knows a frelling fact when it hit's him in the face.
I think that sums it up pretty nicely. maybe I find a transcript of this scene somewhere I'm not sure my retelling is very good. if you're the Sikozu type you may not enjoy Farscape too much but if you take it the way Rygel takes it it works.

I'm at the moment watching my S4 DVDs to catch up. waiting for Peacekeeper Wars.

Well, what I meant is that according to the rental page on Netflix for Farscape Season 1, the first DVD contains eps 1 and 7, disc 2 contains eps 2 and 4, disc 3 contains 3 and 6, and so on. So it would become a royal pain to try to rent them when I can only have 3 discs at home at a time. I'd have to keep renting and returning the same discs over and over.

Unless the season is *supposed* to go 1, 7, 2, 4...which I doubt it is.

"Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars will be shown on the US Sci-Fi Channel from October 17th. No decision has yet been made about showings on the BBC. Don't email us asking about it - we promise we'll let you know when there's any news."

From the BBC website - sounds as though they may be negotiating still so fingers crossed.

I've recently been watching for the first time using Netflix. Just watch it in the order on the DVDs, I'm sure it is the intended order (and it works, I know, I'm halfway through season 1).

The annoyance to ME is that there are only 2 episodes per disc. :(

They have the PK wars trailer at apple

http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/farscape/

So what order should the series be watched ?

I've read that the show got cut down when they were finishing off Season 4, so Farscape was cancelled before the story could finish
and that the final epsiode has a ' Previously on Farscape '
and you get a quick mili-second flash of all the 88 episodes
and the epsiodes flash up in the order that the directors and writers would have wanted them aired/watched

The DVDs were made in the intended order of airing, kinda like with Firefly. Rent the DVDs through NetFlix and watch them in the order they appear on the DVDs -- that's how I started to catch up on Farscape, before my sweet husband bought me the season 1 box set.

If NetFlix has the episode titles, that might help:

Disc 1 - Premiere / I, ET
Disc 2 - Exodus from Genesis / Throne For a Loss
Disc 3 - Back and Back and Back to the Future / Thank God It's Friday, Again
Disc 4 - PK Tech Girl / That Old Black Magic
Disc 5 - DNA Mad Scientist / They've Got a Secret
Disc 6 - Till the Blood Runs Clear / Rhapsody in Blue
Disc 7 - The Flax / Jeremiah Crichton
Disc 8 - Durka Returns / A Human Reaction
Disc 9 - Through the Looking Glass / A Bug's Life
Disc 10 - Nerve / Hidden Memory
Disc 11 - Bone to Be Wild / Family Ties

Oh, and you might want to check out www.farwhat.com - a site put together by the fans that's meant for peeps who've never seen the show but are curious.
