"Now Lucas has tweaked with the scene for the third time, perhaps in an attempt to appease vocal fans that disliked the changes made to the film in its 1997 version. According to the newspaper, the scene in the DVD version of the film now shows both Solo and Greedo exchanging blaster fire at the same time."

Floating around the net somewhere is a before-and-after comparison of stills from the 1997 and 2004 editions, including the cantina confrontation. IIRC, Lucas has only touched up Han's laser beam, not brought it forward. I'll see if I can find the link...

Personally, I never really cared! But maybe that's because I was born since 1977...

I was going to by the Trilogy set anyway, but this makes me feel a little better.

Here's a link to a review with some screenshots:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews3/starwarstrilogy.html

According to this review, Greedo and Han fire almost simultaneously, but that Greedo's shot is noticeably first.

It's a pretty good review. The best line is: "am I finally a happy Star Wars fan? You know, I don't even know what the words 'happy Star Wars fan' mean anymore." Ain't that the truth?

Me, I am NOT going to buy the DVDs. No freaking way. I'll find someone to sell me the bonus disc by itself, and then I'm going to go ahead and get one of those "overseas" versions sold at various online auction sites like I should have done two years ago.

Can't wait for the Firefly Special Edition DVDs. Dobson shoots first! "The Hero of Canton" dance remix with alien rap! Jubal Early digitally inserted into every episode from "Ariel" forward! Inara not a prostitute, but some sort of traveling nurse!

As long they are not doing stupid things like putting Hayden's Face into Vaders Mask i'm ok.

But I rather had the option of seeing the orignial Version without does cheap computer-effects....

@succatash

Why not go all the way? Lucas should just remove Alec Guiness from the end of Return of the Jedi and put the younger Ewan McGregor in there along with Haydn.

Why not take Alec out of ALL the Star Wars movies? ... he was the cast member who derided Lucas' lame scripts the most back in the day. Have Ewan put on some old person prosthetics and re-enact the Guiness parts.

Too bad Lucas can't scan in a new writer and director for this mess.

The thing I'm not liking is the adding of Hayden Christensen at the end of Jedi. While the link KingPause posted offers a somewhat reasonable explanation for this, I still find it annoying. George Lucas is way too wrapped up in using special effects. "Oh look! I can put in a new actor over the old one. Let's do that!" Also, I feel kinda sorry for the old actor. The guy had, like, two lines and now he gets the boot.

Changed things I am grateful for: the changing of Jabba in A New Hope. He looks much better now.

You and me both. I'm just so irritated that we can't have the option of buying the original versions of the movies! I mean, at least with LOTR, the extended editions come out fairly quickly after the movie -- it's not like they come out 20 years later! AND they give extra useful info, rather than just slapping stuff in because they can!

....I'm having serious issues....

Yes, but the whole addition of that Jabba scene into the SE was such a George-whacks-off move to begin with anyway. The dialogue is exactly the same as with Greedo, it adds nothing to the movie except the stupid Disney moment.

An interesting deleted scene (no, an alternate take) on the DVD, at best. But not part of the actual movie. I mean, why?

Like the guy says, I don't think there's a happy Star Wars fan left on this earth.
