Uh, well, we're not really talking about people here, now are we? We're dealing with Movie executives. And yes, they can be that stupid.

Well, AICN isn't exactly a reliable source. Does anyone remember their ridiculous review of the Batman : Year One script? I'll believe this crap when it's coming from a site that has a shred of credibility.

This isn't going to get made.

If by some freak chance it does, it won't make any money.

Everyone knows the story. Everyone wants the story. This is just silly and stupid and somebody's mushroom trip stoned vision of something they never really knew.

I'm not going to get upset, and I don't think anyone else should either, because it ain't gonna happen.

Pandora
and if it does, well... it shouldn't be in the theaters too long.

It'll never get made, of course. But even if it did, why should anybody be shocked? I can't count the number of movie adaptations done by people who had no understanding of the original material. I'm sure that somewhere out there, some budding film mogul is putting together this can't-miss project: LORD OF THE RINGS IV: FRODO MEETS JASON!

JOSH, WHERE'S MY CHECK???!!!

Spoiler guarded for your protection:

Select to view spoiler:

Ok, the fact that Krypton doesn't explode, I can forgive. The various character and character meeting re-writes I can also forgive (Lois and Clark's meeting, and Jimmy's affeminance). I can look past the horrible prophecy thing... hell, I can even sorta kinda a little forgive the Jor-El having visited Martha and Jonathan story.

But that's about as far as I can stretch (and that's pretty damn far). Superman dies and is ressurected and that's not even the plot of the film! A character cannot go through that as a plot device... it has to be *the* plot.

And the massive re-writes of Lex Luthor... I can look past the CIA scientist thing... but to have him be Kryptoninan is simply absurd!

There were parts of the review that I *really* liked (some of the re-write aspects are a bit interesting, even. The beginning, with Superman getting his ass kicked, sounds very cool... and a morally tortured Superman is definately the way to go in this film) and I really want them committed to film. But the *horrid* *horrid* *horrid* plot aspects the film takes once it gets back to real-time are just unforgivable!

My thoughts are that the second half of the script is fake... perhaps a stunt pulled by Warner Bros. I may be the only one, but, aside from the kung-fu and Krypton crap, the first half of the script sounds damn cool to me (perhaps if I didn't have confidence in JJ Abrahm's ability i would think otherwise).

Anyway, I will hope beyond hope that the script is either partially fake or will be rewritten. I will not go to see this film if the Kryptonian Luthor is ever even partially realised.

Well, some of this stuff might make sense - if you take into consideration that Keanu Reeves will be playing the part..

Whoa! No Way ! Dude!
Way... Way...
Whoa!

Yeah, the thing that would be really really really hilarious would be to see Superman
saying "Whoa..." all the damn time.

I know this won't get made. As a fan of J.J. Abrahms -- well, a fan of ALIAS, I'm a little pissed at him. I wonder if this garbage was all his idea, or if the outline was dictated to him.

No matter. There's lots of talk of a power struggle over at WB. Whichever producer delivers SUPERMAN to the studio is like the second coming. So there's tons of backstabbing and mischief going on.

Acutally he won't. Brett Ratner said this himself... go to http://www.comics2film.com and http://www.coronaproductions.com to find out the newest details.

Word directly from Ratner is that he wants a total unknown in the tights.

Looks like they're actually going ahead with it. From comicscontinuum.com :

WARNER BROS. ANNOUNCES SUPERMAN MOVIE

Warner Bros. announced its plans for a new Superman movie on Wednesday night, with Brett Ratner directing what the studio calls "a re-imagining of the Superman legend."

A Warner Bros. representative confirmed for The Continuum that the film's current title is simply Superman.

Ratner's credits include both Rush Hour movies and the new Hannibal Lechter movie Red Dragon.

J.J. Abrams, executive producer of the Alias television series, has written the script. Abrams appeared last month at Comic-Con International in San Diego, but did not talk about Superman at the Alias panel. Afterward, he told The Continuum that he could not talk about the film, only saying that it is "interesting."

The movie will be produced by Jon Peters, who also produced Batman.

"Superman is an American icon and a timeless hero who shares a rich history with Warner Bros.," said Alan Horn, President, Warner Bros. "We are very happy to be working with Brett, Jon and J.J. on this important new chapter in the Superman legacy."

"J.J. Abrams and Jon Peters were given the daunting task of re-imagining the Superman epic and J.J. met the challenge, delivering a terrific script with emotion, depth and scale that bring new dimension to this legendary character," said Jeff Robinov, President, Domestic Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.

"We couldn't be more pleased to entrust the next chapter in the Superman mythology to Brett Ratner, a dynamic director whose skillful blend of action, comedy and drama has captured the imaginations of audiences worldwide."

No casting has been announced.

Well, check this article out, just a week old...

http://foxnews.com/story/0,2933,62992,00.html#1

Remember George Reeves who played TV's superman, then removed his own existence from depression.
Then it was Christopher Reeve who played the movie series, then had his disabling accident.

George Reeves
Christopher Reeve
now Keanu Reeves

the whole thing creeps me out...

Well, up until now I didn't have a problem with Keanu playing the S-man, because I like him. But now... I don't really want anything bad to happen to him. Anyone here think that Jude Law should play Superman? He'd be great.

Corona is a pretty good rag... at least a good central source of all the current tidbits. Used them quite a bit for latest $hit on Matrix 2, etc.

Well, who knows what the heck they are thinking, one minute it's this, another minute is that. Half the time, they don't know what the heck *they* are thinking. They are probably trying to get Keanu for cheaper price... In any case, at this point. They are not likely to stay with Keanu even if they are thinking about it. The crank has got to turn at least 18 times before they get to the right lead... Who knows, the director will probably change. I wouldn't get too comfortable if I were Ratner...
