I'm not a fan (I tried at first) of Enterprise but I do love Star Trek. I hope the franchise can pull out of its miserable slump.

STAR TREK XI: The Romulans, the Romulans!

"TREK producers Rick Berman and Brannon Braga revealed more hints about the direction they want to see STAR TREK XI take.

According to the magazine, the two creators want the next STAR TREK feature to be a prequel film set before the adventures of Kirk and company in THE ORIGINAL SERIES. That would lead fans to imagine that the duo are talking about making an ENTERPRISE feature film; not so, says Berman and Braga, who claim that their movie idea doesn't involve ENTERPRISE in any way. Instead, one of the notions is to show the Romulan Wars, the conflict between the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire....

According to the franchise's canon, the Federation and Romulans had an intense space war before ever meeting face-to-face. The end of the war saw the formation of the Neutral Zone, the region of space that acts as a buffer between the two interstellar empires.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is whether a new TREK movie would reunite any of the previous cast members from the earlier films or television series, or if an entirely new cast of space travellers would be hired."

Sounds kind of cool if they do it right. ???

'Bout time they did this. I was hoping Enterprise would be this concept but I'll settle for a movie.

This is Berman and Braga we're talking about. They have the same chance of doing it right as I have of doing T'Pol. And I mean T'Pol and not Jolene Blalock.

Mighty big "if", with Berman and Braga involved.

Gee, Succatash. No? It sounds like a terrible idea. The saving grace of the whole Trek ouvre has been its characters and the ultra-humanistic morality plays that constitute its best episodes. The series has never had a firm handle on "realism" and a "war story" particularly in this day and age would be insulting crap without a healthy dose of realism. B & B are not the men for the job. Terrible idea.

Edit: Give the job to Joss!

Are we talking about a particular series or the entire franchise? Wrath of Khan was dark and intense, what if they could recapture that feeling? It's a wild hope, I admit.

Then it would break on of the universal constants. It has always been the even numbered films that were good (whether or not the last continued this trend is subject to debate.) If an odd one were to live up the The Wrath of Khan standards … it would bring about the apocalypse or a new era in Trek films.

Heck yeah, I'm talking about the ENTIRE franchise! The best episodes are always about character and morality. Wrath of Khan was indeed great, but that had an awful lot to do with the chemistry between Shatner and Montalban and their characters' backstories. In it's wonky, B-movie way it was as character driven as any episode of TNG.

And in terms of wild hope, I'd say we were more likely to get another Empire Strikes Back than we are another Wrath of Khan.

And we kinda allready got Wrath of Khan, I'd prefer they don't do it yet again...(or try to make something that feels the same, as they'd most likely fail)

So...don't make it "dark and intense" because that has already been done?

Let's deal with this fact of life, the odd numbered Trek movies will not be good. The even numbered will (Some of you might argue Nemesis broke from this trend. I disagree. Even if you say it is the worst even numbered movie - which it may be - you can not name a single odd-numbered Trek movie that was better, therefore, it fits into the pattern). So let B&B do their bad 11th movie (this is one of those things that sounds cool right now, but didn't we just have a Romulan movie? And they would not do it justice).

What are we Trekkies left to hope for? When Star Trek XII finally comes out in 2010, truely the final movie of the franchise, where the crew is reunited with Q, in a final installment that reminds of those days a decade ago when we saw the camera slide away from the end of "All Good Things..."

Oh, and it's directed by Joss Whedon, whose critical acclaim has risen to unparalled levels as he's then considered the best cinematic science fiction director in the world.

Or so we can hope.

I Think Generations (7) was better than Nemesis, both crap, but it was better, plus Data swears.

I just don't trust them making star trek dark after nemesis...which was darker than the past films anyhow.

Shoot them both.
In the head.
Twice.

THEN make the movie.

Maybe then it won't suck,... maybe.

PS - Might I note, that part of what really added to Wrath of Khan at every second of every scene was the truely phenomenal soundtrack, something that's been badly neglected in every other ST movie since.

I wouldn't call it a Romulan movie. We didn't really learn all that much about them. We saw more Remans and Starfleet. If they do make another movie--which i'm not sure I want to happen--those two had better not be involved.

succatash, a little Khaness would be good.

i would like to see a series, not dealing with starfleet. it would focus on one of the many species we have met. not Clingnon, we know a bit about them, and not Ferengi because i love Quark too much to become attached to a new one, maybe the Romulans. there is so much we don't know. the wars, the neutral zone, the evolutionary split with Vulcans. Wouldn't it be cool to root for a species presented as the heroes of the series even if we "know" they aren't so much. For camp we could meet the Andorians.

Is suppose all three are impossible. I can't believe the pulled all that time travel crap into Enterprise. That 's the problem with the franchise now, no continuity.

*sigh*

This is what people (i.e. "fans") want, but no one seems to realize it's not possible.

They just said this one is looking toward the Romulan War. The only cast that could be involved (barring time travel, which now appears to be grounds for execution) would be the Enterprise crew, possibly aged via makeup (Captain Reed, Commander Mayweather, Ambassador T'Pol, Fleet Admiral Hoshi-chan ).

Even Spock wouldn't have been born then.

And it's not like you could feasably turn 2004's William Shatner into a pre-1969 Kirk.
