I'm sorry, but I think the worst sci-fi I've ever seen, and that's worse than all the one's y'all mentioned, was "Knight Rider 2010". I've never found a root canal more desirable than the couple of hours of my life I wasted watching this one saturday afternoon.

I guess I am one of the few that loved AI. Humanity wipes itself out and robots inherit, simply perfection.

I also loved the message that humanity cannot love a machine for itself and only for its utility. Granted most people confused the end robots for aliens which throws a wrench into understanding the film.

Never saw Vanilla Sky, didn't even know it was sci-fi.

maybe because i'm a machoist, but i watch just about every SciFi show the networks trot out and while many of the movies/series you all have mention are not that good, they are a hundred..nay a million times better then some of the things i've see:

Space Trucker - Dennis Hopper and Stephen Dorff as truckers. in space. whaha?

Space Rangers - take all the storylines and characters of a episode of the Power Rangers. then make it less good. thank you CBS for setting back the cause of SciFi as a main stream art form 10 years.

Mercy Point - ER in space.*sigh* too easy

Misfits of science - picture the A-team with super powers. ok now picture the A-team with super powers traveling around in a icecream van. throw in a young Courtney Cox who if memory serve me correctly wears a cowboy outfit at one point. with a little red hat

Wolf Lake - lets watch an episode. werewolves, ok this could be good. ooooh Lou Diamond phillips, fancy. hmm boring plot but i can live with that. watching, watching, wait a second what are those two wolves doing. are they fighting? OH MY GOD, they're doing it. i got my dog fixed so i wouldn't need to see that kind of thing. Bad CBS! no more SciFi for you!

OK, I'll bite. I'm not a Farscape "fan", per se. I've only just watched the first season and thought it was alright, but certainly not in Firefly's class. But worst sci-fi ever? I'd really like to hear your reasoning for that.

I think its because I always read it like it "tried" to be good, but always came off as more of the cheesy, (and this is just me) scifi movies/shows I hate.

I dunno, the dialogue felt... wrong, I dunno.

I don't care, I'm still free.

Don't squat with your spurs on.

I think Earth Final Conflict is the worst Sci-Fi TV Show. It had potential but became really confusing, especially after it lost the lead character.

The worst Sci-Fi movie has to be Plan Nine from Outer Space. It's got the Golden Turkey Award to prove it. The star, Bella Legosi (please excuse any spelling error there), died before the movie was completed and the director simply replaced him with his wife's chiropractor.

Also there was a movie called the The Thing with Two heads. A mad scientist has his head attached to Rosie Greer's body (with out removing Rosie's). At a distance you can tell Rosie walking was around with a rubber head on his shoulder. In the close ups it looked something like a campfire skit, where one guy stands behind the other and rests his head on his shoulder.

The all time worst science fiction movie was Highlander II.

Like they said in the first movie "There can be only one."

Unfortunately they made sequels two, three, and so on.

Sorry. I am still bitter about driving over an hour to see it in the theater in another city despite knowing in my heart that a movie like Highlander is a singular experience.

Oh yes. Matrix 1 great. Matrix 2 left me cynical, sad, and empty. I didn't even bother to see Matrix 3. No longer would I trust fave directors again. Okay I take that back. Joss Whedon may be the only director/writer I trust any more. He has hit a home run with everything he has had creative control over. He has yet to disappoint me and I have a feeling that Serenity will be a grand slam.

NUISANCE

I would consider a vote for Event Horizon as bad sci-fi, but it worked pretty well for me with its horror, total ick factor and weirdness.

One that I haven't seen mentioned is Wild Wild West. Most of the technical feats we were supposed to believe during it made me think, "Huh? Would that work?"

Part of Chronicles of Riddick bothered me a lot. If you haven't seen it and still want to, don't highlight.

Select to view spoiler:

They talk about the prison planet as being 700 degrees above during the day and 300 degrees below at night. In Celsius, -273 is absolute zero. So either the writers got the temp. wrong or we were supposed to believe that Fahrenheit is still used among a populace that commonly travels throught space. So, I spent a bit of the movie trying to figure out if the writers were stupid or stupid.

TV Shows: Automan, Team Knight Rider

Movies: Godzilla (Matthew Broderick one), Highlander II (Not even that director's cut that got rid of all the aliens and sci fi parts could save that turd), and Ishtar...not sci fi, but still probably the worst piece ofcrap I ever saw. I can't even remember what it was about...I just recall they were in the desert...and they were bitter.

Any Highlander movie after the first one is a bad sci fi movie. I personally refuse to acknowledge any of them were ever created. It is easier than dealing w/ the pain.

Well, stupidly, I kept reading it, thinking "it has to get better." Well, it didn't. And just in case you really wanted to know, it didn't really end, as such. I suppose she was trying for a suspenseful ending that would draw the reader to the next book, but it more or less ended ... just the same as she could've ended it any time after chapter 1.

On the bright side, it made any book from the Gor series seem like something worth reading, LOL!

I never saw Nightman (or Space Precienct for that matter)m so I can't judge. Wasn't there a rather awful "Adventures of Sinbad" out there? But, my true choice for worst SF TV Series: "Sliders." Despite the presence of John Rhys-Davis.

Worst SF movie: Wow, there's a lot out there. Someone's mentioned "Armageddon," someone else mentioned Roland Emmerich's take on "Godzilla." I haven't seen "The Core" how bad was that? Most of the movies Scifi Channel shows look horrible. But, I guess I'll throw that other asteroid hiting the Earth movie - "Deep Impact."

Worst Sci-Fi movie: Battle beyond the stars. Messages in walnuts!? My friends & I walked out - and went into Death on the Nile, instead!

As for Matrix 3 - well, jeez, Trin, DIE ALREADY, and get on with the movie! I swear, it was the longest movie death since Spock - and not nearly so sad! And as for Neo and the seeing-without-eyes trick - Mua-dib did it first, and it therefore lost much of it's "wow" factor - for me, at least.

The sequels, on the other hand, deserve to be gathered up and burned and remove any trace that they were ever made. The Wachowskis got lost in the FX and that's what killed those 2 movies. Other than the freeway scene, Reloaded had nothing going for it. The 100-Smith pileup was just a sad, sad attempt at creating something the audience never saw before. And don't get me started on Revolutions. Other than the all out war at the end with the humans and the machines, there was nothing that kept me awake. I wanted to hunt down the Wachowskis and cause them serious bodily harm after seeing that joke of an ending.

I loved the first Matrix movie; heck, I even wrote a short little fanfic off of it (about the woman with the 'white rabbit' tattoo).

So I had high hopes for the sequels. I can't say that they were the worst sci-fi EVAH, but the Matrix Reloaded left a bad taste in my mouth. I didn't like the new characters, I didn't care for Zion, and the only good things, ironically, about the sequels was the ongoing conflict between Smith and Neo. I wish that the sequels had concentrated more on that. My favorite scene in Revolutions was when Trinity and Neo flew up through the smoggy cloud layer and saw the sun for the first time; that was beautiful. The Smith and Neo battles were pretty good, too. But the films were too uneven in quality to support and so I gave up on them entirely.

Howdy,

Dunno if this has been mentioned yet, but there's a truly, truly horrific movie called "Space Mutiny" that sits at the very top of my list of the worst science fiction movies of all time. This movie is SO bad, that they used the special effects from Battlestar Galactica...of the GALACTICA herself...but played BACKWARDS so that the BACK of the ship is the FRONT. The interiors are shot in a brewery. The shuttle cars inside the ship are golf carts. The costumes are by Ronco. 'Nuff said. I kid you not, this is bad. Worst. Sci-fi. Ever.

Okay, rounding out the list of the Top Ten:

Space Mutiny (natch)
Creature (the one with Klaus Kinski)
Star Wars Holiday Special
The Roger Corman Fantastic Four Movie
Star Command (A really bad American series made by a German company)
Lexx (God, I hate Lexx)
Cleopatra 2525 (Sorry, Zoe!)
Galactica 1980 (Except for the Starbuck episode...that ruled.)
Ark II
Anything from the second season of Buck Rogers.

I defy ANYONE to beat Space Mutiny.

Now, now...Dark Star was a college student film in the early 1970's, PRE-Star Wars, and made by John Carpenter (Escape From New York, Halloween, They Live) and Dan O'Bannon (Alien). In fact, the basic plot of Dark Star was reworked by O'Bannon into a movie he called "Star Beast." The studio didn't like the title, though, so they renamed it. You might have seen it, a little-known flick that might have slipped past you...called 'Alien.' Everybody's gotta start somewhere, right?

Of course, you might also have seen a little independent film that came out in the late 1970's called "Within the Woods" that was the prototype for a movie called "Book of the Dead." The studio didn't like THAT title either, so it got renamed. Anybody ever seen "The Evil Dead"? Made by a guy named Sam Raimi...of Spider-Man fame. Hey, like I said...everybody's gotta start somewhere.

Don't forget, Joss' first "Buffy" prototype was simply horrible...and the movie made from his original script was terrible. If somebody had judged him based on a first work, then there would be no 'Firefly.' Judge not, lest ye be judged, or kicked in the head by somebody. Your choice.

I'm a massive Farscape fan. I like it more than Firefly. I repsect your opinion and all but surely you must've seen something worse? Another question have you seen all of the episodes? or are you basing this on a few minutes of viewing? After all the original poster asked for worst scifi you've seen in it's entirety in which case I hope you have seen it all.

One of the best aspects of the show for me was the fact that all the characters weren't black and white, they were grey so to speak. For example the main bad guy for most of the series, actually seems like he's doing what he's doing for the good of others and not just taking over worlds and crap like that. You also see the main good guy doing really questionable things, which make you think "hey isn't he meant to be good?"

I actually thought the dialogue was brilliant. There are some really weird episodes which I don't think have been done in other sci-fi shows, for that alone I wouldn't class it as worst sci-fi ever because at least it tried to be different, it was innovative.

Please, oh please, let me list what I consider the worst fantasy movie of all time (and boy, are there some doozies)!
ATAR THE FIGHTING EAGLE!!
The "monster" at the end of the movie was very obviously a giant plastic spider - front half only - on a hydraulic arm. It came half way out of the cave, then came to an abrupt halt at the end of the hydraulic arm. Our Hero then stabs it, and several liters of what looks exactly like BEER come gushing out! Goddess, it was awful! And then I heard, there was a SEQUEL! (Or was Fighting Eagle the sequel?) At any rate...AAUUGGHH!!

To keep going with the book mentions, I wish I could remember the name of the worst fantasy book I ever read, but I seem to have blocked it out. It was pretty much crap most of the way through, sub-standard meathead soldier gets roped into protecting weakling priestess who can't actually use her powers, b/c they exist only to be transferred to the magician who takes her virginity. They run from evil wizard who wants to sleep with her b/c it will make him the most powerful being ever, blah, blah, blah. But what really cut it for me was that, in the end, when evil wizard has captured them & has her locked up in his tower, she talks him into turning off all of the alarms so she can have a night of privacy before 'giving in to him.' So what does our girl do, with all of the surveillance turned off? The answer you want to hear is 'run the hell out of the tower, since nothing's watching her!' Unfortunately, the answer is 'sleep with the meathead, since her magic is non-transferrable to his non-magical sort, thus 'freeing' her from her magic/virginity & pissing off evil wizard.' Then he lets them go and they, having got together for no apparent reason, 'romantically' ride off into the horizon together, with dialogue determined to set up a sequel.

I read it when I was in junior high, and I was so pissed off I threw it across the room. Given how seriously I treat books, this indicated major anger. And then I sold it to a used bookseller, at an age when I kept every single book I read.

Man, that book still pisses me off!

The two things I don't understand: how this series ever got to air, and how Jamie Lee Curtis ended up as a guest star for an episode.

Seared into my brain forever is the awful Buck Rogers episode where they rescue a deaf slave girl, and Buck still remembers a bit of ASL fingerspelling from his pre-future days. He managed to get out "o-k" with enormous difficultly and it was painful to watch.

Second to that for visual pain was an episode of ST:TNG where an alien spoke in ASL through a "chorus" that manages to get killed at some point, requiring Data to become an instant translator.

That's when I learned that Data must have a psychic chip in his head, as he was managing to interpret things BEFORE the deaf alien guy actually SAID it!

I don't think anyone's mentioned it, but I just remembered a little gem from 1989: Moontrap staring Walter "Chekov" Koenig. Terrible. Embarrassing low-G wire fu, space strippers, and Walter Koenig playing a tough guy. Just terrible.
Don't forget Bruce Campbell as Walter's sidekick - he's taken over Borg-style and becomes a bad guy. Best thing about the movie was the gratuitous nudity.
However, my vote would go for a stinker of a series back in the early 80's, called (I believe) "Automan", about a computer-generated holographic crimefighter or some such. I remember that he worked best at night because of the power needs for him to appear. Close to sunrise in the one episode I remember he started fading, talking about feeling the thousands of toasters and coffee makers switching on all over the country. REALLY bad stuff.

JAYNE "Pain is scary..."

What I saw of Cleopatra 2525 was awful. true, but it did have Gina Torres...

Also, i liked what they did with cyberpunk, there. I saw one bit where the ditzt bimbette had to do surgery to remove something, on the fly. There was a holographic overlay to talk her through it, which, i have to say, was five minutes of viewing time not wasted on, say, reality TV...

I think I have everyone beat, but I have not seen all of the movies listed here.

Worst movie I have ever seen, outclassing Alligator II, Armagedon, Deep Impact, Meteor, Asteroid, and MST3K movies in all around suckyness, is Mosquito.

The thing is the same as the movie suggests, giant radioactive mosquitoes. This beat out the other one word titles (Octopus, Creature, Arachnid, Aracniphobia, Python, Boa) night of titles (Night of the living dead, night of the comet) machine taking over ones (maximum overdrive, car) who is the alien ones (starship troopers two, the pod people) post apocalyptic ones, (knight rider 2010) war in heaven ones (prophecy three) and generally all other junk I have watched.

The only movie that I can see coming close lives only as a vague memory and the thing playing on the oracle’s tv in the original matrix. Night of the Lepus. I call it “Attack of the six foot bunnies”.

Hehe to quote your post:

"but as a wise man once said - "Opinions vary" - heh, now where is that line from? I know, do you?! "

This is from another awesomely bad movie: Roadhouse

Swayze's portrayal of the warrior-poet was the lamest. And that arch-villain fighter guy......worst thing ever.

Sadly for Colin Baker, it was down to the scripts. Any fan who has seen the "Stranger" films he did afterwards (with a certain 'Miss Brown') will know that he's actually VERY good at being a good Dr Who. His role was ruined by the editorial choice of scripts and style.

Worst ever ... Hmmm ... where to start?

Films:-

Highlander II - only this one specifically - III and IV were better, if not exactly GOOD.

Dr Who - The TV Movie - it lost everything which made Dr Who what it was, by turning it into another "pap for the typical American viewer" film. The TV Series was just variable and cheaply done (but see below).

Short Circuit II - sorry, this was just

TV Series:-

Doctor Who - Colin Baker seasons - these were the exceptions to me liking Dr Who, NOT because of Colin Baker, but because of the way his character was being written. It marked the beginning of the end for the Doc, and nothing which Sylvester McCoy did could save it after than.

ST-TNG - any episode where Wesley Crusher saved the crew To quote Doglas Adams - "the one thing no-one could stand was a smart-ass". And he WAS, in spades.

Space:1999 - second series particularly . Season one was ok in places, and the Eagles looked like someone had really THOUGHT about their design ... but Series 2, targeted for the US market, was a heap of dingo's kidneys.

Dishonourable mention - Flash Gordon (movie version) for just one TERRIBLE joke - "What do you mean, Flash Gordon approaching? Despatch war rocket Ajax to bring back his body."

For those who don't live in the UK, 'Flash' and 'Ajax' were two different brands of floor cleaner.

Lexx, Highlander 2 stand out the most....though I do love the MacLeod movies, the second one stinks..

disagree about the DS:9 posts....that sereies is unlike any other trek series that was made, and it ttruly isn't fair to compare with one of the other best series I have seen: Babylon 5

"You replaced Firefly with *barf* Fastlane?!"
Zoe:"Take me Sir. Take me hard" - War Stories

Ah, well, I've never seen anything else he's been in ... sorry to hear he *would've* been a good choice, given half a chance.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a new contender. A little piece of gos se called Alien vs. Predator. Such a great premise executed so poorly.
Someone mentioned the Ator movie staring Miles O'Keefe. Worse yet was its sequel, The Cave Dwellers. At least Cave Dwellers was done on MST3K, and was hilarious.
Space Mutiny was horrific, but if you watch the MST3K version, it is fantastic. "Big McLargehuge" "Rump Slabfist" "Rock Hardpecs" It's classic.
Anybody remember Space Hunter starring Molly Ringwald or Cherry 2000 with Melanie Griffith? How about A Boy and his Dog with Don Johnson? Terrible!
As for TV, the V series was heinous. The two miniseries were good, but the weekly show they tried to make was disasterous.
