Yes! I'd been told about this a couple months ago. Exciting, isn't it? The original was great... I still think Servelen was the ice goddess of power.

I wonder how (or if) they're gonna explain the ending of the first series?

From www.culttv.net--

Already in the works is a four-hour mini-series based on an original idea by the late Terry Nation. This new Blake’s 7 is set 25 years on from where the original ended, and will introduce a new generation of characters that will "take on the might of the Federation". It will NOT be a 're-imagining' or 'remake' as is the case with a new TV mini-series of Battlestar Galactica currently in production Stateside.

It also promises the return of the seminal anti-hero Avon for a final showdown. Paul Darrow, who for many played the most memorable and popular character in the series, Avon, said "This is clearly tremendous news especially for those who have been loyal to the series over more than two decades! The programme had such a gritty and dramatic style that was every bit as great an influence on the SF genre as the original Star Trek. Terry and I were close friends and we will produce a worthy tribute to his creative legacy, taking his original concept into an entirely new and exciting realm that will win a whole new audience".

I'm guessing that Avon will the bridge that ties the new rebels to the old-- perhaps he's been in Federation cold storage over those 25 years, after the final fight. This could definitely be made to work.

But now I'm liable to be stoned-- I have to say that I was never a big Blake's 7 fan. Too many of the stories made no sense to me, the universe really never came alive, and any series that makes Dr. Who's effects and sets look lavish is a series with serious problems. I can only hope that the new series has some good writing and a decent budget. Perhaps we can refer them to Zoic....

Oh, bugger! Now I have to wait for someone to wake up!

MISGUIDED BY VOICES

Not sure, but I think this may be old news - the comeback was announced near a year ago now, and since then Paul Darrow appears to have split from the project - whether they have patched up their differences I don't know.

I suspect the series will make a comeback, if Doctor Who goes well, but its something that reallly requires a remake, since they couldn't sell the series to a mass market with the original cast, so need a new Blake (before anyone points out, I'm well aware that the show had both more and less than 7 and was Blake-less at points, but that wouldn't work now - at least not from the start of the show).

It's very old news, and B7 fen are by and large hoping that it WON'T get off the ground, because most of us dread that it would be a horrible caricature.

I know it seems inconsistent of me to be awaiting the BDM with baited breath, but then if it took more than 20 years and loss of most of the creative team I bet you wouldn't be looking forward to that either.

Actually.... Spoilers below, if you haven't seen all of Blakes 7:

Select to view spoiler:

Avon shoots and kills Blake in the final episode. He thinks Blake has betrayed him, and blasts him three times at point blank range with the futuristic equivalent of a shotgun. There was lots of blood, and it was clear that Blake was definitely dead.

As much as I love the show, I personally think it's a bad idea to try and revive it. It ended perfectly, as did Angel, in my opinion.

Well according to the website for the new Blake's 7 they want to create a new cast of chracters 25 years after the last cast left off. And although Paul Darrow is no longer a head honcho in the project the proposed mini-series would have Darrow reprise his chracter Avon as he gets out of jail after a 25 year sentence. And younger rebels will look to him as a hero and the new rebellion starts from there.

Sounds interesting to me any way and if Avon's the bridge between the two shows it could be quite good. I for one hate "reimaginings" with a passion if your going to do it do from where the story left off and go from there.

Any how there has been a real lack of anything new from the U.K. lately. And I'd hate to think what it would have been like in the 80's if all I had was Start Trek to fall back on and feel bad for any sci-fi fan state-side who didn't find Blake's 7 and Doctor Who. So any way I'm more than willing to get behind this. I'm also looking foward the new Doctor Who as long as it is NOT a "reimagining" and just continues from where it left off.

Anyway here's the link to the proposed new Blake's 7.

OOPS!Just decided to edit this post when I realised I gave away a major spoiler for those who have yet to see all the episodes. Lets just say if this show happens Blake will not be a part of the new cast and leave it at that.

Well never mind I recant what I said earlier about hoping this goes foward. Paul Darrow who played Avon is definitely not happy about the direction the people who now own the rights to the name Blake's 7 want to take with the new proposed show. And he explains why he broke away from them in the link below.
