Loving this - what a huge difference from the first 2 seasons imho. Not sure if the first 2 lowered my expectations so much, or if it's Darabont's exit, or if it's the team hitting their stride, or if I've gotten past the whole "not the graphic novel" business, whatever - it's just flat out BETTER, so much tighter than anything before it.
They still have the inexplicable logic gaps (people keep wandering around a zombie apocalypse alone... and "where's Karl?" the windows at the farm aren't boarded up), but overall it feels like more of a talented storyteller's hand at work than before. I really look forward to seeing this show now.

I agree it is improving.

But just FYI - its still the second season. They just took a few weeks' haitus, like most shows. Season 3 has been greenlit though, and will start around Halloween.

Thx for the tip - seemed longer than a few weeks!

Well, "few" is a squishy term, I suppose. They took December and January off. Also, their season IS twice as long this year, so each half is as long as that first season was.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I am really enjoying the show, and I like its focus on people more than zombies. I mean, the zombies could be any natural force that mankind must contend with. If this were a caveman story it'd be wolves or saber-tooth tigers. It's what that threat brings out in the living that makes the show worthwhile.

A few episodes back there was a wonderful tense shootout in a bar that really impressed me. The showmakers seem to know exactly how to create a scene and start ramping up tension until it breaks.

Never forget what this man is. You keep forgiving him his trespasses and speak to him as though he is a reasonable human being. You keep forgetting the things he's advocated. If you respond to this man again, you are being foolish.

Totally agree Anthony. The way Whedon found more to scifi than just the science and future cool stuff, so does this show go for more than the zombie head splatter crowd (though they do that too). And the constant interpersonal struggle, the "what would I do, who would I be?" - I never get tired of seeing that play out.

Mini spoiler alert....

One of my favorite characters from the g-novels is coming, actually 2 of them... hold your loved ones close and for godsake, somebody find Carl!!

That has been the main theme in zombie films since the original Night of the Living Dead film, but I think Dawn of the Dead from 1978 really nailed it.

The Walking Dead is a great addition to good zombie lore. I find the tv show much better than the comic books, although the last few episodes have pretty much put it in the same ballpark regarding the tone. Dark stuff.
