Easily the equal of the first- perhaps a bit better. Not much more to say, anything would be spoilery, and this is one flick that SHOULDN'T be spoiled.
Just see it.
And the John Carter trailer looks great.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Game of Shadows is just what it says on the tin (trailer)

Select to view spoiler:

Writing is not good, Downey's acting is not good (& his accent is atrocious), but the slow motion punches, bullets, & explosions, are wonderful

His accent notwithstanding, the writing is pretty good IMHO. Maybe not Conan Doyle level, but enough for a very entertaining flick.
So there.

Well, I hope the Avengers is as good as the BBC's Sherlock, which is well-written and well-acted and fairly faithful to the source material. If it's only as good as a run-of-the-mill action movie with a decent premise, I guess that'll be okay, but I like seeing Joss shoot a little higher than that :p

LWAVES

I want Samuel L. Jackson to say "Joss Is Boss" during one of his interviews. That would be cool coming from an actor that effectively defines 'cool'. Or Robert Downey Jr can say it.

I hope Avengers is great as well, if for nothing else but to show the rest of the world what Joss can do. He has a great (and large) cast which we know he can handle. Fingers crossed and all that.

As for Sherlock Holmes then I really don't know. After a couple of viewings I find the first one 'okay' but it's not the Holmes that I want. I find it easier to watch if I don't think of it as a Sherlock Holmes movie. I really can't decide whether to watch the second or not.

BBC's Sherlock is much more like it. They've done an excellent job of updating the characters and stories to the modern day. I loved every minute of both series but the recent second series was some of the best TV I've seen. Highly recommended to anyone.

I found Game of Shadows rather mediocre myself (at least the villain in the first had a unique plot - this time the big endgame is something tried in roughly every other Bond movie....dull), so I hope Avengers is a HELL of a lot better.

Benedict Cumberbatch is MY Sherlock, anyway.

That's because he's awesome. As an aside, I recently heard he's voicing Smaug in the Hobbit film, which made me happy.

Not only voicing Smaug, but performing the motion capture for him AND the Necromancer (pre-Sauron). And that's on top of being the villain in Star Trek 2/12.

I'm sure it wll be pretty amazing. I get that from just the trailer. But also, Joss is an Avengers fan from way back. He GETS the characters, and lord knows he can write some pretty interesting group dynamic in his scripts.
The fact that he is writing/directing this is a dream come true.

Im very excited to have Joss writing, but am a touch concerned about the direction. To me, the trailer feels somewhat inert, visually speaking. Very few shots that were visually dynamic, an area that Joss is weak in by and large, I feel. With Serenity, he had a great DoP, which made up for that shortcoming, and it still felt a bit more TV than cinema. Unfortunetly, his DoP on Avengers isn't quite as experienced or, IMO as good. The fact that the movie is shot flat (in terms of aspect ratio) instead of scope (as all the other Marvels films have been, as well as Serenity) is also mildly irritating.
