Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have provided the first look at the new Man of Steel, revealing star Henry Cavill as Superman in the film from director Zack Snyder.

The film also stars three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (The Fighter) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (What's Love Got to Do with It) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent's adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (Unfaithful) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves).

Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road), and Faora, Zod's evil partner, played by Antje Traue. Also from Superman's native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman's mother, played by Julia Ormond, and Superman's father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator).

Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.

Looks great to me. That's what Supes should look like.

Look at his left hand- sweat is just draining out of that plastic suit.

That suit makes him look like a lizard, I'll wait for it to come to cable.

Sorry, but it looks like crap. However, I've liked Zak Snyder's other work, so it may surprise me despite my lack of enthusiasm for the costume...

Wonder why he doesn't have a cap some of the time. Those shots look a little less standard for the Superman suit. I wonder why they always feel like they have to put a twist on these things. Oh well it still looks Superman enough for me. That is as long as they give him a cape. Sheesh.

CYBERSNARK

It looks like a lot of those shots are just blocking for rehearsal; they probably take the cape off when they're not actually rolling.

(And even in-comics, Superman has been known to ditch the cape from time to time; he often uses it as a fire blanket when rescuing people.)

I'm a bit torn on the costume. Much as I love the classic look, I do like the detailing on this one. It works as a new variant suit made with Kryptonian tech (as opposed to the old suit that was hand-made by Ma). And it's not like Supes hasn't changed his costume before (the "Electric" containment suit, the black and silver regeneration suit, the Doomsday-hunter kit [apparently based on New Genesis tech], the lead anti-Kryptonite armour that Bruce designed, the spacesuit he used in the animated series, the black-background S-shield he wore after 9/11, the Kryptonian military uniform, the black-and-white suit he wears in the future. . .).

My main complaint is that the lack of trunks means there's nothing to break up all that blue. Makes it look plain.

Hmm, I kinda like the design, but it really needs a belt or something to break up the lines.
