The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at www.mediafire.com/folder/1uwh75oa407q8/Firefly

A more descriptive title would be:
“From Eyes with Blue LEDs inside to Eyes of a Rotting Jack-O-Lantern on Fire!: The All Women's Club of Firefly.”
I gathered these pictures because last week I learned that Jewel Staite finally became the fourth member of the club.

Is there a “Glowing Eyes of the Men of Firefly” Club? I've not seen it. (In Buffy's final episode, Nathan Fillion's eyes dripped black ooze, which is the opposite of glowing eyes.) Any comments or speculations why only the women got these glowing eyes special effects?

The pictures are in order from least to most extreme. The spoilers are for those who want to test their Movie/TV knowledge.

As a child, the glowing eyes of the Great Owl in The Secret of NIMH scared me. I still have that DVD. The owl still chills my blood.

A fair point that it does appear to be only the girls.
Except....just to be picky....Gina's eyes aren't actually glowing in those pics. Her face/head is but not the actual eyes.

It's a rather startling shot to see originally, since until T3, one associated a demonic red as the colour of an undisguised Terminator optical sensor...until the T-X.

Though Cameron apparently had to scrounge around for a spare eye somewhere, since she had a red one during her storming of a police station during the penultimate or final episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles...

This got me thinking about the guys of Firefly and the fact that glowing eyes usually (but not in the cases above) means possession of some sort. This led me to evil, the devil and hell.

Nathan was a follower of the First Evil in Buffy.
Adam worked for the Senior Partners in Angel.
Ron was the devil in a Twilight Zone episode.

Not so sure on Alan or Sean though? Any ideas?

Weeeelll, if you were to classify it that way, Alan's role as Alpha in Dollhouse fits, since he went a bit nutty from having the personalities of almost 40 people shoved into his head, though the shell was a sociopath.

Actually I'd say it's nowhere near to fitting. Alpha had no connection to the devil, hell or anything paranormally or supernaturally evil (which the other three do). Alpha was the resullt of science. Sorry but it's not the same thing.

And so does Summer's optical glow, in the picture used to make the original argument is a shot of Summer as Terminatrix Cameron Philips from the pilot episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles...which means the glow is from her optical sensors going to full strength or something similiar, lwaves. So while Jewel, Morena and Gina do tilt the scales toward supernatural causes, it's not a clean sweep.

I think between us we've got crossed wires.
I was keeping the guys seperate from the girls. The girls are connected by glowing eyes/faces in Two's OP for various reasons. That's as far as they go for me.
The guys, as far as I know, don't have scenes with glowing eyes/faces but in movies and TV this usually (but not always) indicates something supernatural and often is connected to demons, possession, the devil etc and that sort of evil, not your psychotic or brain-gone-wrong type of evil. The glowing eyes just gave me the idea, that's all.
Nathan, Ron and Adam have a connection to this but I couldn't think of anything for Alan or Sean. For this to work (for me) Alan and Sean would need some similar type of supernatural connection. Alpha/Alan doesn't have the supernatural link so doesn't fit in that group.

I say again, I wasn't putting the two together, it was two seperate groups.
Hope that clears things up.

Yeah, I guess that there was a bit of misrouting going on there. I took it as the point you were indicating Alpha wasn't a possession, and it wasn't under your definition of possession as being supernatural in origin. Which would technically leave out other opportunities to count the other male BDHs had they done other roles featuring brain transfers or possessions by alien consciousnesses
