Zombies? Yeah, I know, can't swing a dead cat without hitting zombie shows these days, but this is more than a zombie show. Zombies are mostly a backdrop (not unlike the Alliance, etc.) for creating a dangerous world in which to watch and study human behavior... to see good people acting badly maybe... and bad people acting worse? In a post-apocolytic world, where death might be around every corner and where other real humans may be the most dangerous thing, who's to say what is right and wrong? What would you do to survive? And who would you do it to? Scaries!

Having read the graphic novels that this is based on I think this could be a great series - DVR it for sure.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I will definitely be watching!

I have followed the comics since they first hit shelves, and to this day it remains my favorite comic. Been following Kirkman's production blog and what I've read there along with the trailers have me pretty excited.

I agree that the zombies are more backdrop than other zombie movies, providing more of a catalyst for an intriguing, and sometimes horrifying, look at what people become in a post apocalyptic world where the dead roam the earth.

Only 3 more days!

I was skeptical when I first started reading the comics, but Kirkman's plot choices won me over. And his characters - it's hard not to see a bit of Malcolm Reynolds in Rick (only without the humor!). I'm also a big fan of Dale and Andrea - any woman who's a crack shot with a sniper rifle holds a special place in my heart.

There are really no zombie shows on TV unless you want to count "Ugly Americans" which is cheap and stupid. I'm going to check this out, if it's cheap and stupid it won't last long.

Never read the novels, but I've been very intrigued ever since I heard about this. Definitely got the DVR set for this one.

After all, AMC seems to be on a bit of a roll these days, with "Mad Men", "Breaking Bad", and "Rubicon", so I think they've earned a watch, at least from me.

Uh, more than half the top ten tv shows are cheap and stupid... but do have a look and try and give it some time - took me 3-4 eps of Firefly before I was hooked.

Tonight!

Being a huge fan of the comic book watching the trailer looks like the first episode isn't going to deviate in any way from the printed page. I can't wait until tonight. Sadly, I already know what's going to happen.

Right on. So many of the top shows ARE cheap and stupid. And if I'd watched Firefly on TV when it was on, I'd have likely been hooked by the first ep shown; after all, it was "The Train Job" that got me well and truly hooked. Once Mal kicked Crow through the engine, I knew this wasn't going to be any ordinary show!

But you're right - it was the third hour on the DVD set before I was hooked. :)

I watched the premier last night at 10pm. Excellent show. The opening was a carbon-copy of 28 days later, but I was ok with it.

So it looks like we have the makings of a superior series, which of course means it will be canceled.

Hopefully it won't be canceled. AMC and FX both have some really good stuff - some of it very gritty. Breaking Bad, Terriers, Justified, Sons of Anarchy - both of these networks have found a niche that just isn't being addressed elsewhere, and they're making a name for themselves on the backs of some really good TV. Less-gritty fare - Mad Men, Rubicon, and Damages - still holds high-quality entertainment.

It's gotten to the point that if the show is on AMC or FX, I feel like I at least need to give it a look.

I'm hoping The Walking Dead will live up to the standards of Mad Men or Breaking Bad. If it does, it's likely to run for quite a few seasons yet!

It's early... even so, I have a rant against a number of their choices, but I'm going to shut my yapper for now.
I do recall that even in the comics it wasn't until after Atlanta that things started to pick up.

Big fan of the comic. Havn't watched the premiere yet.

It did kick ass in the ratings, receiving a 3.3 share, which is quite high for cable. By way of comparison, True Blood's best ever rating was 3.2, and current MTV juggernaught Jersey Shore (which I have never, and will NEVER watch) has reached 3.4 only twice.

Coooool.

Wow. Rubicon's finale got - if memory serves - something like a .9 or 1.2, something pretty low.

3.3 is huge for Walking Dead!

Wonder if that includes DVR recording. I DVRd it, but haven't watched yet. It's on the queue for tonight.

Okay, HOLY CRAP!

Not so much "Ohmigodthat'sscary!" as "Ohmigodthat'sGORYASFUCKALL!"

It's funny, because the early scene with the shoot-out, I was thinking, "Wow, I remember the big controversy about 'Bonnie & Clyde' back in the day, and how it almost got an 'X' rating because it was so violent and graphic, and now this stuff on TV is worse..."

... And then it really amped up. Gore, guts, more gore, brains, blood, more gore...

Yikes!

I'm so there.

Darabont has said they were given no restrictions on the gore. Nudity and language were the only things not allowed.

I actually enjoyed the comic books more than watching this. I'll continue to watch it, but it didn't really grab me like I thought it would. It might get better.

I thought the spikes that police lay out were specifically designed to let the tyres down slow and avoid major rollovers and crashes..

That's the kind of gripes I had... lapses of simple logic which are very important - critical - for creating a fictional world that the viewer can believe in. It seems like the more you ask an audience to believe in (like Zombies) the more real the rest of world has to be, or it just doesn't sell.
I think that was one of Firefly's great successes, and especially one of Fillion's great contributions; his every day persona. That made the space ships and science easier to accept. It continued with the other actors, their casual ease with each other in character made everything feel more real.

I have a list of these small things (once Rick got the low down on the situation, wouldn't he always - like when he's looking for gas - be walking around with a GUN OUT?!), but I'll save them for now... definitely interested in how the series progresses. Like I mentioned, after Atlanta is when most of the fun starts.

Semi-spoiler alert...

I kinda had a problem with the tank having a handy escape hatch in the floor, but a little research shows that to be pretty common, up until the M1 at least...
