Good News for Caprica fans -

The highly anticipated return of Syfy’s critically-acclaimed series Caprica will come even sooner than anticipated. The second half of season one will now premiere on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 10:00PM ET/PT, the channel announced today. Fans will no longer have to wait until January to watch the series exciting kick-off, as the citizens of Caprica deal with the chaotic aftermath of the mid-season finale’s harrowing events.

The second half of season one will transport us from stunningly vivid, twisted Virtual realities to the fascinating outer worlds of the 12 Colonies. Along the way, revolutionary tensions rise, family power shifts and our characters grapple with the physical and emotional consequences of their questionable decisions. As the season races towards its stunning conclusion, each episode lays the groundwork for the inevitable (and brutal) clash between the new Cylon race and its human creators.

“Though we initially announced the January return of Caprica, we still had hopes of finding a way to get the series back on the air sooner,” said Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions. “We’ve been able to successfully re-work our schedule, and are thrilled to bring the show back during what is traditionally Syfy’s most-watched time of the year. The outcome should also please fans who expressed their wishes for a shorter mid-season hiatus.”

Caprica stars Eric Stoltz (Daniel Graystone), Paula Malcomson (Amanda Graystone), Esai Morales (Joseph Adama), Polly Walker (Sister Clarice Willow), Alessandra Torresani (Zoe Graystone), Magda Apanowicz (Lacy) and Sasha Roiz (Sam Adama).

Hopefully they'll re-run it this weekend, since this announcement found me a day too late... :(

The whole Mafioso "flip a switch and kill your mother to prove your loyalty" thing was stupid. It's such a weak spin-off to Battlestar, it's little wonder that SyFy wants more action and a return to space in any future spin-offs. Next series, "The First Cylon War" or "Husker, The Early Years"?

Cerebral? You're kidding right? I agree SyFy has gotten stupid with worthless wraslin' shows, but Caprica is hardly cerebral! It's just 40 minutes a week of boredom, punctuated with pathetic moments of violence for little more than shock value. EuREKA is more cerebral than Caprica, not that it would take much!

Watched it.

Liked it, though I'd like to see it again. Some parts I wasn't fully engaged in, being 1/2 asleep a the time.

I did enjoy the re-cap(rica) episodes which came on before the new one aired. Needed a refresher course.

Clearly you don't like it, and that's fine, but that's an incredibly facile attack on the show.

The show plays on a number of metaphoric levels, and does what classic sci-fi does - explores modern issues through the lens of another time/place. It's not meant to be an action show, or a quirky goof like Eureka. It's a drama.

Not your thing, fine. But to say it's not cerebral at all indicates a very... simplistic way of thinking.

The announcement was made over a month ago. Just because it wasn't posted here doesn't mean others who like the show weren't aware of the change. Me for instance.

The funny thing about that EC is that Universal owns several mainstream channels (ahem, Channel 4-NBC in NY) and didn't exactly wave the Caprica banner of the coming change. I had resigned myself to the fact that it was to air in early 2011 (Jan.?) and pretty much focused on my other must-see shows (Fringe, TBBT among others).

I just happended to be channel surfing when I saw Caprica in the 10 pm slot (just before going off to work) and notice that it was a new episode. I thought, no way! I tuned in, and to my pleasant surprise it was new. Happy day!, thought I. Then it hit me: Why didn't they make it known on all their channels, and in print, internet, etc.

I did a little search at work and saw that there were some blurbs as to the change - the move up to Oct. 5th. That is an odd way of promoting a show. What gives? White Collar got all kinds of promotion before it's premiere. So much so that I reacted in the negative and refused to watch.
Actually, I did see an episode and kinda liked it. But the damage had been done - overkill is almost as bad as no publicity.

They could have put a spreadsheet ad in one of the free papers that they give around here (a la White Collar, etc.) I think this was a very last minute decision by Universal to air the show so as not to lose the BS and Caprica audience. A year is an awful long time for a TV show not to air, especially if it has some potential.

Caprica is far from perfect (Firefly, as in perfect) but it does have moments of brilliance that makes me think - give the writers and Jane a chance - it'll get better. Anywho, glad to see it's back. Now if only Jane and company will spice things up a bit. We need someone to root for (I thought that Zoe, then Tamara was it but they pulled the rug out). I say develop New Cap City because thats interesting.

I knew you guys would be on top of it, but just wanted to be sure my fellow BCs were aware - just in case.

;-)

I agree that they really need someone to root for. The characters are all interesting, but not terribly sympathetic.

Hey Mac,

I agree.

"flip a switch and kill your mother to prove your loyalty" thing was stupid.

That was so freakin' lame. Also the whole story arc with Mrs. Graystone and her deadbrother was kinda lame as well. For me it went nowhere. I thought there that Jane must be slipping.

There are just too many storylines that seemingly go nowhere. Somehow I think they will show the connection, but come on already. I still say that they should pick a character and develop her, (Zoe) since she seems to be the focal point of the show, so that 'we' become invested in the show.

I know that it takes time to develop an ensemble cast show, but the storylines and plot devices have to be more interesting or just follow thru until the next story arc. I guess I'm spoiled with Firefly but, get to it guys - you may not get another chance. I hope Jane and Universal get it. The move up in schedule gives me hope that maybe their listening.

I watch very little TV, but I get news about it from a lot of different sources. SyFy.com for one, tvguide.com, tv.com, zap2it.com, hollywoodreporter.com, i09.com. There are tons of places to get news about shows you care about.

Sorry I didn't post the news here when it was first announced. I like Caprica, just don't love it so much that I spend a lot of time talking about it. I did see an ad for it Monday night during both Chuck and The Event, so you can't say they weren't promoting it.

As I said, I've known about the early return for at least a month. Sorry others weren't aware of it and missed it, but they are repeating it five more times before the next episode airs, the first such occasion is tomorrow morning at 8am Eastern. Plus it's already available on Hulu.

Per the lame parts, such as Mrs Graystone going crazy.... maybe (I know, I'm reaching here ) they just want to show that not EVERY single story line is heroic or all that interesting.

Kinda like the fact that there are no truly compelling characters. And that could be the point.

Sometimes big stories are just that... events which involve everyday folks, some mundane and others less appealing, or even worse, and yet, from that array of mediocrity, something unique arises. Either great or catastrophically evil.

Oh, there are great stories and individuals out there, but not every thing we see has to involve them.

Yeah, my television watching is erratic and non-conforming (thank the TV Gods for Hulu). There are shows that I rarely miss that are Firefly-like for me (Fringe) and those that just make me laugh.

I know that there are a number of different ways in which shows are promoted, just so happens that I didn't catch them in my usual haunts. Plus I haven't seen Chuck so far this season and I've only caught the first 2 episodes of The Event (just too busy).

Anyways, I was able to catch Caprica on Hulu and probably will continue that trend (mainly because of work; I'm able to catch up during a lull - as I work nights).
