On DVD shortly, and I am destined to buy it, but I miss the original Ramin Djawadi notes!! John Debney is excellent, and he tried to find a way to allude to the hard twang of one, but it was just fantastic, not stupendous like the first.
Thanks John, for the deliberate & well-executed nod though!

It always kind of amazes me how folks like yourself can notice so much of a score after one, or maybe two watches.
I pick up on themes and character motifs if they are good enough or stand out in a good way but the rest of the score pretty much passes me by until I re-watch it at home. Then I start to pick out the finer nuances and whether the score works as a whole or not. It may be that I concentrate too much on plot, character and getting 'into' the film so it is believable that I don't notice the music so much.
Having said that I do think a score is a very important part of a film (or at least it can be). You can have great films with mediocre or poor scores but when the music is right and fitting it can elevate a film in such a good way. I don't get folks who just dismiss it as though it's not important or doesn't matter.

Thinking about it more I would say I'm definitely more of a theme/motif person than an overall score liker. I realised looking at my film music collection on CD that the bulk of it is made up of compilations rather than individual film scores, although I do have some.

And regarding Iron Man 2 on a music note I wished they had featured more from AC/DC. In fact every song should have been theirs. They go together so well.

Agreed.

Interesting to see AC/DC music have such a resurgence, after all this time. Seriously, go to a lot of college football games, and you'll as likely to hear AC/DC as you are Saliva or Black Eyed Peas....

Hello,

In order for me to notice music in a show or movie, it has to be either exceptionally bad (the B5 Crusade music comes to mind) or appear over credits, or it has to be thrust into prominence in the scene. If the creators don't make a conscious effort to put music front and center, it just blends into the background experience for me.

A good example of when I notice music is in the film Star Trek TMP, where the credit music and the follow-on music is very memorable. The follow-on music appears in a scene with a minimum of other sound for some time, and so it is cemented in my mind (and many other people's) as definitive to the action at hand and the characters in it.

Ferris Bueller and The Secret to My Success also used music that was so prominent it made me remember it even years later. The "Oh Yeah" music that goes 'Bomp Bomp, Chikachikahhh!'

Wrong country for college football games.

Great bands like AC/DC never go away.
They (and other proper music artists) are the antidote to all the sound-a-like R&B, hippity-hoppity, High School Musical manufactured artists. The ones who can't sing live and have no real musical skill or talent.
AC/DC have always been known for their great live gigs as seen by myself when I saw them at headline Donnington's Monsters Of Rock. I was an ocassional fan and life long fan after that gig.

Can't say I remember the music from Ironman 2. I don't normally notice the music too often in movies though.

Star Wars (possibly just from repeat viewings), Pirates of the Caribbean, and Lord of the Rings all have fairly memorable music. Beyond that I can't think of much.

Will buy Ironman 2 but I think I'll wait for black friday. It's almost guaranteed to be on sale then.

See ? Good stuff translates, regardless. I remember a bus driver at my H.S. who'd crank up the AC/DC on the way home, I'm gonna have to guess usually on Fridays. Good ole Charlie. Probably don't make bus drivers like him any more.

Hahahahaha! That's so brilliant it's almost incredibly coincidental.
At Lutterworth Grammar School (one step up from H.S. in the UK) we had a bus driver called Charlie and he used to turn the radio up on the way home too. He was a cheerful silver haired old guy that always reminded me of Rod Steiger.
It was usually Status Quo's In The Army Now or anything by Queen. We didn't get too much AC/DC during the day on the radio, that was saved for the late night shows.
He used to stop right outside your house as well if you were on the route (I was). They definitely don't make them like him anymore.
