I agree with 8 of your picks. I would ask which planet of the apes? I'd bounce superman. and add children of men and depending on which apes you picked...maybe code 46 or district 9 (hilarious).

So it gets knocked down because it's idea is old?
Because, you know, Superman was a new creation for the movie. And space westerns had never been done before. Or good vs bad, knights resuing the princess type stories had never been seen either.
Just having a 'friendly go at you' is all for knocking my fave time travel film.

As for my ten in no order (subject to change whenever I feel like it):

Superman The Movie
Star Wars
Serenity
12 Monkeys
Alien
Close Encounters
Moon
Empire Strikes Back
Aliens
Inception

Nice light Cycles :D

Yeah I heard about Legacy. I have my concerns but I'll give it a whirl. So far I'm trying to avoid any imagery from it - but it's so difficult these days to avoid hype.

Still on the plus side it has Jeff Bridges in it :D

Really? I think the designs are remarkably faithful - just a natural progression reflecting the changes in technology over 30 years.

It's a classic and has perhaps one of the best dialogue finalés out there... Well that and the original The Thing. Also that curious trumpet score is so unusual for it's time yet it fits the sentiment perfectly. Very impressed Sonisall likes it!

Titanic used fictional science (because it was cheaper), much like if a film today showed how the sun revolves around the Earth, and how the entire Universe revolves around the Earth as well. We consider this fiction because this "Science" was disproven centuries ago (although the Vatican only admitted it a year or so ago).
Titanic was the first film about that ship and event which could have accurately portrayed how the unsinkable ship sank, because the wreck had been dove on and the cause verified. But Cameron decided he had already chosen a different ersion, and the special effects had been done for it, so it was cheaper to use the fictional science for the film.
The most notable, and first, person to accurately describe how it sank was in testimony at the Maritime Inquest following the sinking, the Chief Engineer of the shipyard that built her (I think at Glasgow). Nobody believed him, and the accurate explanation was discounted and ignored until the ship was investigated during the time of the filming.
I count it as Sci Fi.

That's a very round-about rationalization. Yes, it was a fictitious account of how the boat sank, but fiction does not equate to science fiction.

Yeah, that's about the most tortured nonsensical reasoning I've seen in a while.

By that measure, any film ever that wasn't a documentary is science fiction - because they ALL take liberties with something.
