Bruce Lee would be proud. And they even allow the chink to talk.

A kosher Green Lantern...who'd a thunk it?

I'll be honest and say that I know absolutely nothing about The Green Hornet except what I've just seen in that trailer.
And that trailer leads me to only one conclusion....
I wanna see this movie.
It looked good, had funnies without being too goofy, it wasn't camp and I like the idea of the good guys being bad guys to get them.
Could be a big hit.

Oh yes, definately seein that.

That's my trifecta of slightly "villainous" heros, The Shadow, The Green Hornet, and The Whistler.

Well, it was... passable.

And that's kind of shame, they had *everything* they needed for it to be awesome, and yet somehow it just doesn't ever really come together - I'd love to see Robert Downey give that role a shot, myself.

Of course, hardly no one but me remembers The Whistler, you should check it out, I think you'd like it.

PS - I did finally bag up Planetes, haven't gotten round to watchin it, tho it's next up in the stack after Venus Versus Virus.

The Whistler was quite a bit before my time but somewhere in my childhood I have come across this character or show. I always had this image back then of a man in a raincoat standing just inside a darkened alleyway. He had a hat that covered his face in shadow and he would watch a crime start to be committed. He would then whistle a creepy tune and the baddies would get scared, see him and run away (or he'd shoot them or something).
Then when the interwebby became big and searching for info didn't involve a trip to the library I looked up this character and found that he was genuine. I don't know where I got my reference from but it's definitely the same one. Maybe my Grandad listened to shows on the radio but I can't remember it.
The character has always stuck with me though and I ocassionally get reminded of him - usually by The Man With The Harmonica from Once Upon A Time In The West.

I forget where, but there WAS some TV stuff of him, too.

Yah, always kinda liked him myself, he had a certain dry snarkiness which was a nice counterpoint to The Shadows over the top pulp-style smacktalk, which I also enjoyed.

And The Shadow could talk serious smack, I always LOOOOVED that, and the creepyass laugh.

I got to spook a creeper a while back who made the amateur mistake of not realizing the light was throwing his shadow past the edge of the building, and his nervous, furtive movements gave him away completely... and it was windy with a light rain/drizzl so I had my raincoat on, and I just couldn't resist, so I stage-whispered "The weed of crime bears bitter fruit..." and stepped around the corner all dramatic like, and started laughing - the look on his face was friggin priceless just before he took off, no doubt to find a change of underwear.

Double-check these and scan em throughly before you run em, given I don't trust the site all that much and better safe than sorry - but still, good stuff.

(I hate these download-type sites cause it's almost a given there WILL be a malware-load attempt somewhere in all them fekkin ad-scripts)

Cheers Frem, great story.

I don't like sites like that either. Forrest Gump said it best - "You never know what you're gonna get." Even if the site is genuine doesn't mean the download is safe. I'll certainly be careful with them.

I dug around IMDB and a torrent site I use and found a download to the first of 8 Whistler films based on the radio series. Might give it a go but it's only the first one, haven't found the others yet. This may well have been where my memory comes from as I used to watch a lot of old B/W films as a kid.

If I have any luck with anything I'll let you know.
