I hadn't heard about this until today. I love these books. A 4-hour miniseries could be awesome.

"First published in 1968, Le Guin's EARTHSEA trilogy is considered by many to be among the staples of modern fantasy. The story is set in a land where a young man named Sparrowhawk seeks training in the magical arts. During his schooling the young magic user accidentally frees a dangerous creature into the world and it falls upon him to right the mistake by learning it's name.

Sci Fi plans on broadcasting the four-hour mini sometime in December."

Yay! I love Ursula Le Guin and all the Earthsea books. It will be neat to see what they can do with a television version. Although, I think that article was a little confused since Thar wasn't a wizard and didn't live on Roke. But anyway, that's great news. Thanks for posting it!

Gawd, I hope that part about Thar being a high priestess on Roke was a complete f-up. It would be so utterly wrong headed to revise Earthsea in that way to make it more p.c! Ak!

I've been so waiting for Earthsea to be filmed. I hope it's an enormous success so they'll make Tehanu as well!

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

She's a high priestess, just not on Roke. I'm sure it's a mistake, because she's a key player for the "other side" in the middle of the trilogy. I wonder how far they will twist things? Maybe she'll turn out to be a former student of Roke.

I hope the cable miniseries does it justice. I wonder why publicity has been so quiet.

I know what did this...

Personally, I'd like to see 'Left hand of Darkness' made or ANYTHING by Cordwainer Smith but Earthsea will do..

Any word on casting...?

There was a notice on Zap2It this week that Isabella Rosselini has been cast as Thar. That's all I've heard as far as casting news.

I was thinking the same thing, Peace.

I remember Sci Fi Channel's 2003 Battlestar Galactica's miniseries. I missed it. The DVD is listed on Amazon but it's not quite yet available for pre-orders.

I'm debating between upgrading my cable (at the end of the year, just for 4 hours of entertainment) or waiting for the DVD. I really love the Earthsea books. And Ursula LeGuin's other books. And her. It's about time. I hope they do it right.

Alright! I'm a huge Cordwainer Smith fan too, and since almost everything he wrote is interconnected they would make a great series of films or a very long mini-series.

this is all nice and dandy but what ever happened to Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle In Time" miniseries that disney/ABC made 2 years ago? It never made the airwaves that I can remember. Has anyone seen it?

I wonder where Sparrowhawk would fit in the Buffyverse?
