Chris Pine is to William Shatner as Dean Cain was to Chris Reeve.

More like Chris Pine is to William Shatner, as Chris Reeve was to George Reeves.

Expired, forgotten, spoiled rotten.

Chris Pine is William Shatner as Brandon Routh is to Christopher Reeves.

And yes I had to look up Brandon Routh's name, an illustration of what I think of Chris Pine.

on the globe that gave me birth.
Let me rest my eyes on the fleecy skies
and the cool, green hills of Earth.

No way does that add up. Pine is far better than Cain in their respective roles. I could go for the Pine-Shatner to Routh-Reeve equation a lot more.
I thought both Pine and Routh did a really good job it's just that whilst Trek is an excellent movie, Superman Returns is a bit of a let down beacause it could have been so much more.

As for Dean Cain there's a reason why he never made it beyond that Superman show. He's a terrible actor which fitted with it being a mediocre, at best, TV show. I know it has it's fans but I'm not one of them.

Sidetracking:
I think it was on this site that I read a story about Dean Cain going into a restaurant wearing a Superman cap and this was a while after the show had ended. That reeks of desperation and enormous ego to me. Made me laugh though.
Can someone confirm if it was on here?

Maybe Pine:Shatner = Tom Welling:Christopher Reeve?

Smallville has more of that "reimagined for a younger audience" vibe to it than Lois'n'Clarke (although I'd say its a far better show).

Yeah, everyone here seems to be right; Cain isn't that good an actor, I just feel he did Superman pretty well...
Substitute Routh or Welling at your discretion, please.

Well, on one hand, Cain was never intended to be a "younger, hipper" reboot. Welling is really the only one that applies.

The only real difference is that I can stomach the JJverse. I can't really get into the Smallville-verse.
