See it; it's really good. And it brings up questions.
Not bad for a little B movie.

CYBERSNARK

No. If Hitler hadn't started that war, then either someone else would've, or it would never have happened.

If someone else had seized power, they might well have been more sane and competent than Hitler.

If the war hadn't happened, Japan would never have joined the Axis. Hiroshima and Nagasaki would not have been bombed (there would've been no reason to build the nuke, and no guarantee that it would've been America that did it --Oppenheimer could well have faded into obscurity without anyone funding his projects). Japan's armed forces would never have been dismantled, and Japan would never have turned its focus to technological advancement (trying to close the gap between itself and the West). Most of the computer (and computer-based medical) technology we have today wouldn't exist.

No anime.

There also might not have been a Cold War. No Cold War means no Project Paperclip. Means no Werner von Braun, means no space race, means no small step for man, nor giant leap for mankind. No internet, no cellular technology.

Probably no Star Trek. No generations of kids growing up dreaming about spaceflight. No NASA.

All the deaths, atrocities, and scars were not accidents to be avoided. They were payment for what we have become. The pain is what defines us. We move forward not in spite of it, but because of it. Without it, we cannot grow.

"I need my pain." --James T. Kirk

Oh Sillyisall, you of all people should know that space and time cannot contain me.

ANOTHERSKY

No.
For all I know, besides what cybersnark said, messing with history could just mean that in the new future I'm a refugee hunted by Skynet, or a pawn of the Dollhouse. I'm selfish, I want to pretend I own my future.

I would travel back in time with forged evidence of the future--evidence that would convince a group of FOX executives that if FIREFLY runs it seven-year course, it will become FOX's biggest hit yet.

If possible, I would also bring back a robot assassin as back-up. If I fail, his goal would be to leave a big enough, ahem, "power void" in FOX that they would not be able to make any significant changes to the line-up between, say, late 2002 and early 2004. That should be enough time...

IMNOTHERE

Remember the first law of time travel (AKA the John Connor principle):

Any attempt to travel back in time and prevent X from happening will inevitably turn out to have caused X to happen in the first place. Its the neatest solution to the paradox...

Otherwise, I think Cybersnark has hit the nail on the head: You'd be rolling the dice to create a new history and desperately hoping (against all evidence of human nature) that things would turn out better.

Also, (certainly for those of us in Europe) given the amount of social upheaval and mobility that WWII caused, the odds of any of us here actually having been born are not good!
