Just got the newly released "Trilogy"...
As a continuous story, it rocks, and rocks hard IMO. An epic that spans the Ceti-Alpha system, the Mutara Nebula, Vulcan, Earth, and Earth of the past! Bad guys Khan & Kruge are malicious, new character Jillian is excellently realized, Kirk goes through Hell, and comes out in one piece, Spock & Sarek grow as characters, Starfleet honours Kirk with a demotion...!!!
Taken as a single tale, there IS no better Trek IMO.
Plus: the new transfers are unbelievably amazing.

Your review?

I just picked up the original movies(1-6) on Blu-Ray, and oddly enough these are the films I watched first.

It is a fantastic storyline that weaves through.
While 2, and 3 are closer together(probably could have been one epic movie) than 4 I think each film has enough strength to stand on it's own.

Together though....There will never be a better Trek storyline in the movies...PERIOD!

I feel that Undiscovered Country is the best single movie, but even that can't compete with the awesomeness of the "trilogy."
Only thing close would be Best Of Both Worlds 1 & 2 and Family IMO.

Odly enough i agree with this, but it has very, very, very, like .0000000000000000000000000009 microns, stiff competition from the whole Tom Paris/ B'elanna Torres-Pais stoey line from season4-"Homecoming", and beyond. But then again i'm a hardcore Parisite.

Huh. Looks like more than a few of us took advantage of the sales, eh? :)

I just picked up Khan and Voyage Home on Blu-Ray, and watched Khan last night. It feels a bit dated in parts, but the movie is still excellent. And the Blu-Ray looks fantastic. I definitely don't feel like my $7.99 was wasted, not at all. They didn't have Search for Spock in stock, so I'll have to keep an eye out for it later.

I got the "trilogy" at Wallyworld for $24.99- definitely no coin wasted there!!

Oh, I hear ya, Chris - you got a good deal on those, though. DVD, or Blu-Ray? I can't remember if you got a Blu-Ray player or not.

Like I haven't invested enough money in this stuff over the years, now I find myself buying Blu-Ray versions of all my old favorites. And new favorites, like the JJ Abrams Star Trek... Sadly, I couldn't find a good deal on that one yet. But I will. 2001: A Space Odyssey was on sale at a couple places, but they were all out of stock. I guess I should take that as a good sign, that that many people are into that movie!

When I get a bigger TV (26" 720p presently) I'll go Blu, but for now I'm blown away by the upconverted picture I do get! The picture on ST2 is phenomenal, but 3 & 4 look even a tiny bit better!!! And the beloved ship-pron...

Those three movies are the best that Trek ever produced.

That said, the NEW Star Trek blows them all away by a mile. I've watched the movie seven times already in ten days. I'm addicted to it.

Holy crap! Put the remote DOWN, Jongs, and back away slowly. I think it's time to stage a Star Trek intervention!

But yeah, I'm with ya on the new one, AND on II, III, and IV being the best of the rest. The new one floored me - something I always WANT a Star Trek movie to do, but which they rarely accomplish.

I love II and IV. III, not so much, but I still enjoy it (would like it even more if Kirk didn't wear a pink outfit throughout the film).

Please re-evaluate. It is not possible for you and I to agree on anything. That event would potentially create the largest singularity in the universe, ie, the end of all things.

After 4 viewings now, I find it to be an excellent popcorn flick, but nowhere near the level of "I love Italian, and so do you."

Ive seen the new one 4 times myself (well, once with the commentary), and at this point, I'd place it below II, and maybe just a hair above First Contact, my previous second-fav.

OOooooo! Ranking!

#1 TMP ( I know, but I love it)
#2 Khan/Search/Voyage Home (I consider it a single tale)
#3 The Undiscovered Country
#4 Trek 09
#5 Insurrection/ First Contact (equal)

The movie just gets better each time I see it. The characters and acting are terrific. This movie has a lot of action, and the pace is fantastic. And it has tremendous emotional situations as well. Dammit Jim, I actually welled-up a time or two! I may have felt that way 25+ years ago with II, III, & IV, but I've seen them so many times since that they just don't interest or excite me any more. This new Trek gives great hope for many more great Trek movies, the next one will be in 2011.

You've been out on the rim so long you didn't hear that Talos 4 is now re-classified as non-hostile, and the death penalty for contact has been lifted. You can even apply to go there, where you can live out your life as anything you can imagine you want to be. All your body deformaties will be fixed by permanent illusion, and you can finally try your hand at slave-trading in green human flesh....Nice place you got here Mr. Chris!

I dunno. I'd say the '09 movie grabbed me more than any of the others. At least that's how I remember it. :)
