Has anyone watched this? I recently got Netflix, and was finishing the last season of Sliders. Netflix recommends other movies/tv shows based on your previous watching, and it recommended Sanctuary. I have never heard of it, but I gave it a try. I'm so glad I did! I really enjoyed the first season. It came out on DVD a few days ago, so I was able to watch the second part of the Season 1 finale on TV instead of my computer screen. I'm now watching the extras.

Season 2 starts some time in October, but I don't get the Syfy channel. So, I guess it's back to internet watching.

I've been catching parts of it and trying to suss it out, but I think I need to start at the beginning. The intro sequence does not do much for setting/explanation. I still have no idea what it's about, only seen about 4 eps.

I think the premise is pretty straight forward. The 2 part series premiere should tell you everything you need to know.

I'd definitely make the time to catch up. I find the technology behind the show very interesting too. It's shot mostly against green screens so all the background is CGI. The camera system records at something like 4 times the resolution of HD so they can seamlessly merge the CG and live video.

I think you have to really be a good actor to work with practically no visual cues.

It's more a factor of editing, directing, and miming.

I pretty much found it on Netflix m'self. Been trolling for t.v. series to put on while I work on my novel. I find it helps me to focus if I have that kind of long form narrative stimulus going on in the background.

I was a little shocked that I liked it. One thing that absolutely fascinates me is Amanda Tapping's utterly convincing dialect work. Her "English accent" is the accent of someone who's not trying to do an English accent, if that makes any sense. She's a different person, her entire emotional expression is altered. I think I saw Samantha Carter lurking in there maybe once in an early episode when she had to scream. I guess it helps that her mum is English--maybe she's just impersonating her, calls her up in the middle of the night, "How would you pronounce 'controversy' again?"

I enjoy all the alternative history stuff. Any show with Nikola Tesla as a recurring villain can't be a total loss!

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Yeah, I love the idea of "The Five." The guy who plays John Druitt (and bigfoot) is great. I think he played a demon the last few eps of Supernatural last season.

I'm looking to pick up the DVD set so I can listen too all the commentaries. Rue-morgue.com had a contest that ended Friday. They're supposed to be giving away 10 sets. I haven't heard yet if I won. If not, I'm going to break down and buy it.
