Any fond or not-so-fond memories about this one?
It has a cool Jerry Goldsmith score...

Yeah. It has Kurt Russell, which is automatically a plus. They killed Segall in the first scene - another plus (and ballsy for an action star of his stature at the time). I also recell being impressed by how believeable John Leguizamo was as a Navy SEAL, given that I'd only seen him in To Wong Foo, at the time.

It was directed by the dude that edited Superman & Lethal Weapon 2, and directed Star Trek: Nemesis.
I read that Seagal's character was killed off because his (Seagal's) ego was a wee bit excessive for the production- I don't know if that's true or not.

I don't believe so, as far as I know, he was always gonna die. That's not the kind of script change you make durring shooting.

And the director, ah yes, Stuart Baird, I believe. Also director of the [sarcasm]wonderful[/sarcasm] US Marshals. The guy who brought The Next Generation's film adventures to an ignoble halt. Chump.

Actually, the first trailer for it that I saw in the theatres turned me off, because they just show the Remora flying up underneath the 747 and latching on.
I'm screaming to myself, "I'm callin' major BS! You can't do that: there's all sorts of wing vortices spillin' off a 747! That stealth fighter would be tumblin' like a leaf in a hurricane!"

So, it was playing two weeks without me seeing it — then a 30-second TV spot showed a quick view from the Remora pilot's POV of the HUD displaying green vector graphics of the 747's wing vortices, with the nice clear area down the middle.
I say, "Oh, so they covered that!" and went right out and saw the movie.
Loved it (especially the Seagal death)!!

Some good trivia bits...

Okay, granted. He is a good editor, one of the best. Just needs to stick to what he does well.

Agreed. Executive Decision was his only really good directorial effort, and I believe that's mostly because of the pre-production; it was a huge project.

Originally, Travis was to die due to low cabin pressure causing his head to explode. Steven Seagal refused to shoot this scene for fear his fans would not like it. Director Stuart Baird insisted he must do it as scripted, though Seagal held up filming for a few days and argued that the scene was not realistic. Finally after threat of contractual breach, Seagal agreed to return to filming and a new death scene was scripted.

Ahhh, that was the story for real, eh?
I like what they shot better, AAMOF.

At the time, it was practically as close to an all-star cast as there was. At least mostly recognizable actors. And Segall's willingness to take on a role which ends so quickly seemed gracious at the time. Best comparison at the time was Ed Lauter in Mulholland Falls.

I enjoyed both, own MH but maybe not yet ED.
