PIRATECAT

I think this is a pretty profound movie. Not for everybody but will become a cult flick. Worth renting. I thought the end was fantastic. Cage has to do something with that wig. Talk to Travolta for good hair doos. Great special effects and the feel reminds me of Walken in the Dead Zone. All and all just a good movie. Not alot of hype about it. Creepy at first then the story unravelled.

"Battle of Serenity, Mal. Besides Zoe here, how many-" "I'm talkin at you! How many men in your platoon came out of their alive".

RIPWASH

I'm still not sure what to make of this movie. The action/disaster scenes were pretty intense, but Cage just had a hollow feel to him throughout the whole movie. Even at the end.

I liked some of the imagery at the very end, but . . . SPOILER [highlight to read]

it was a little disturbing that the aliens took only children to inhabit the new world. I can only imagine that with no one there to guide or direct them . . . it would turn out more like Lord of the Flies. Who's gonna tell them about growing up and . . . . um . . . . reproducing?

I came away thinking that it was just okay. Some interesting parts but a little weak on the whole.

Zoe: "Get it running again."
Mal: "Yeah"
Zoe: "So not running now"
Mal: "Not so much"
- Out of Gas

SPOILER ALERT

I don't see reproduction as a problem. Perhaps you've forgotten adolescent hormones, but I do not think humans require liberal First Grade indoctrinations to figure out sex. Plus the helpers seem willing to help out.
Any thoughts on whether Rose Byrne's character was taken with them? as in her soul before her body expired? Or was that just a platitude?
I don't think it was only children. The grandma had heard the voices, and if she were still alive she would have gone too - they said anybody who heard the voices could go. Often times, the voices only can get through to children, but if when they become adults they don't stop listening, there's no reason they can't still hear them. Most adults desensitize and dull their ESP.
