Well I did predict this back in December. The strange choice of Eliza Dushku to play a character like Max...when Max herself was a copy of Faith (I know we've been over that one too many times Chris) Well, the whole thing felt like an Escher painting. Now we just need a new show staring Jessica Alba that rips off Dollhouse to continue the process.

I think that as time passes Joss's works will be seen like this:
Rosanne: Getting started, cutting his teeth.
BTvS: Break out hit and 2nd greatest thing he ever did.
Angel: An echo of his great start. Not award worthy, but a nice time filler
Firefly: His Magnum Opus
Serenity: Like Angel, an echo of the Opus but this is one in which mistakes were made.
Dr. Horrible: A re-presentation of himself and a worthy work of art.
Dollhouse: A Stumble. But nobody is perfect.

On a more serious note related to Dollhouse, I think Tycho at penny-arcade.com says all that needs to be said.

A paraphrased quote: "It's a science fiction retelling of MTV's The Real World, and it works about as well as you would expect. Joss's acolytes are breathless for the show to reach apotheosis, like some scheming cult awaiting a fortuitous celestial arrangement. Maybe it will improve. That doesn't mean I have to watch this lurching, stymied thing stagger around in the interim. There are other things I can do with my television.

You'll never know how hard I laughed at that one, BSCM.

Happy to amuse. BTW, I dropped off the world this past month as my wife and I had our first baby. Sorry I couldn't conclude the thunderdome fight.

Yes, congratulations!

Is it a girl?
Will you name her Max?

Still, I gotta say I see it going somewhere.

My theory: Joss knew whatever he did would probably not last a whole season, that's why he feels he can take his time with the story since he's got a 13 ep commitment. By ep 13 it will be astounding. And it will be over.
Unless a miracle happens & peeps tune in at the end.

Currently watching episode 3 of Dollhouse on Hulu and I noticed a nod to Buffy.

When Rhyna is in the nightclub with echo and the guy in the black jacket approaches and reaches for (what appears to be a weapon?) echo vaults up and treats him in a very "Faith like" manner by beating him over the railing. Her reply to Rhyna's comment "Damn girl you need to chill" is to say "Well, I'm a southie"

Faith was from South Boston in the expanded cannon.

Of course none of these things improves my view of Dollhouse, but it's nice to notice the minuta.

If I can watch 2 or 3 hours of a show and STILL not be sucked into its universe, then it isn't worth my time.

As such, I'll be missing Dollhouse (I'm sure my ratings will still count, since it's being recorded by the DVR) for weeks at a time, and I'll have to avoid spoilerishness.

I *loved* Dark Angel, at least the first season. Then something happened, and I just lost interest. Let's hope that doesn't happen with Dollhouse. Well, let's hope it GETS more than one season, and that it doesn't lose its way.

I hate to say it, but DOLLHOUSE got another season, at the expense of TSCC, damn FOX. I don't say i hate DOLLHOUSE, but TSCC was really picking up steam, and just starting to really, really kick ass. Now, back to topic, yes DARK ANGEL to me was better, it had all the elements of a sg-1 length show, anyone who knows, sg-1 was cancelled at least two three times. In the end it was cancelled after ten season, two movies, multi spinoff's, and sadly to say one death, R.I.P Don S. Davis(Gen. Hammond)

Wow, I had no idea Don Davis had died. That guy seemed to show up all over the place, and always did a good job as a character actor.

Now I'm sad. :(
