I can't believe no one's started a thread about this. New BSG - we find out the fifth tonight. And right now they're re-playing season 4.0.

Guesses anyone? For a bit there I really wanted it to be Mark Sheppard's quirky lawyer, but the end of the episode kind of changed that. Honestly, right now I have no idea who #5 will be!

The thing that bothers me so much about these skin jobs on the Galactica is that , at the time of the attack, she was primed to be mothballed. That 2 of the final 5 ( at least ) were crew members when the Cylons attacked, and the fact that the Galactica was the sole survivor ( omitting Pegasus for a moment ), it just seems to defy the odds, by a lot. If the final skin job is Starbuck or Adama, I'll be quite put out.

I agree. Or Gaius. Needs to be less obvious.

I'm not caught up with the series enough to recall all the details of where everyone was. I can believe that many details were contrived. Then again, the Cylons did spend many years not attacking, and maybe the final thing went down when it did only because the final five were properly positioned...

Boy, I hope the ending isn't disappointing! This series has been such a fun ride.

Either way, they told us we find out who the final skin job is tonight.

T-minus 57 minutes and counting.

And yet no guesses? From you or anyone?

I really wanted it to be Mark Sheppard. Not just cause he's Badger, but he seemed to fit - he's an unlikely minor character with a mysterious past but a suddenly strong influence on the way of things, and he's also a small guy (you may have noted that the skinjobs are powerful sexy women and small, less threatening men - interesting point in itself there...) But the story about his dead family kind of changed things for me. Filled in the gaps that I was imagining in a different direction.

Next to him, I think it'd be cool if the guy who was once on the original series (I'm bad at names) was the pivotal cylon. You know, the excon VP.

My guess before the episode began was Gaeta, then I started to suspect Dee. Actually, I still do because that final reveal might have been just a hopeful dream of Tigh's, and thus a misdirection.

I was thinking that the ball and jacks that Dee found on the planet brought some memories back to her and she couldn't handle the idea of being a Cylon.

Yeah - seconded! On all that. What has Helen been up to all this time, and what in the world is up with Starbuck? Seems like the cylons have been playing with her head for some time - could this be more of that?

OK, here's something that bothers me.... So, was earth populated with lots of copies of the 12 cylon models? Or was there once lots more models, but only 12 survived? Either way, why haven't they engineering more skinjobs in the past 2000 years? It'd be a lot easier to infiltrate humanity with more models.

Anyway, I'm still really liking the show, even if it's bleak bleak and bleak. Poor Dee. That was shocking!

Slept on it and took some time to collate this out some more.

The 13th "ancient" tribe that left the other 12 HUMAN tribes were in fact, Cylons ? What the frack ? I thought Cylons were a reletively recent creation of humanity. How'd the skin jobs ( newer, evolved models of cylons ) predate the origins of the first toasters ? And how'd they work their way BACK to the original 12 planets?

And how the frack did Starbuck's Viper blow up in a battle, end up on Earth,( which is dead, btw ) , and then she returns, in a brand new Viper, acting like she's just been gone for a few hours ? Clearly, she's a Cylon, but if there' no one on Earth, who copied her ?

Hell, if the "hidden 5" were on Earth that was, 2000 yrs ago, then who's to say we're not ALL cylons ?

Then again... it would make sense that, had this happened in the past, and a new race of humans ( skin jobs ) left the other 12 planets so both could live in peace, makes sense. But would skin jobs then build more toasters, subjegate them like the humans initially did, and the toasters rose up, rebelled against their more evolved brothers, nuked them, and repeated the same cycle ?

The toaster remains on Earth looked similar to the old ones, but we were told it was a different model. And this occurred 2000 yrs ago.

And then there was that one episode where there was a rogue band of cylons, outdated versions from before the truce. They played no role in the recent destruction of the 12 colonies nor are in league w/ the group chasing after the fleet.

And I know it's been brought up , but I've missed any conjecture/ association between there being 12 models of cylon skinjobs ( not counting Hera ) and the 12 colonies

Now I'm getting a headache. Grrr

CYBERSNARK

Yeah, the "current" Cylons (from the 12 Colonies) are either descendents of the 13 Colony Cylons (or are just unrelated, based on common technology).

So, humanity started on Kobol. They created "G1" Cylons, who left to form the 13th Colony (or possibly the 13th Colony developed Cylons after leaving Kobol, then proceeded to interbreed until they were all hybrid enough to read as pure Cylons). At some later point (demonstrated by the Colonies' knowledge of the name "Earth"), the ancestors of the 12 Colonies left Kobol. They developed their own ("G2") Cylon tech, and ended up unaware of what happened on Earth.

Another theory is that the Five "evolved" Cylons on Earth were the ones who created Cylon tech in the Colonies (and it just took this long for the tech to develop back to Earth's levels).

The Five could hint at later (post-Kobol) contact between Earth and the Colonies, which would explain the encoded knowledge of Earth's location.

Exactly how the Five were reborn after 2000 years remains a mystery (I have some theories, though), as does Starbuck's resurrection (which isn't compatible with my theory about how the Five could've survived Earth --there seem to be two different phenomena at play here).

I'm actually toying with the idea that Earth was there first, maybe even the one we know today. It advanced enough that a significant number of people then left them for Kobol. At some point later others left Kobol and became the 12 colonies that we know. During this time Earth was destroyed by their Cylons, who later all died themselves (or left) leaving the wasteland that we find now.
Somewhere over the centuries the story has been gradually changed so that it reads that the 13th tribe left them when in fact it was the 12 tribes that effectively left the 13th. Religious scripture has a way of being vague and wrong.

The Cylons are fond of saying "All of this has happened before, all of this will happen again".

I think this is what the quote refers to.

Just an idea though.

A bit off topic but I am curious...

How do you think it will all end?

If the writers of BSG stay true to their ability to surprise the frak out of me nearly every time I suppose I shouldn't be able to guess it correctly.

Honestly though, if they wanted to do the series justice (and make a comment about human nature to boot), I think it should end with the fleet destroying themselves.

They're awful close to that at the moment...

I don't know, somehow I have faith that the ending will be some kind of homecoming. Not pure happy-happy-joy-joy, but at least a moment where these poor people can take a deep breath and relax for a damned minute. And I really hope it happens in a way that pulls together at least some of the strange plot odds and ends that have been left dangling over the seasons. I really do hope the writers have been planning for it, and don't pull some kind of Stephen King Dark Tower series ending. *shudder*

As for predicting: I haven't a clue. Not even a bit. And I'm usually very big on predicting. It's part of what I love about this show - there are so many possibilities that I can see many different outcomes, and I bet none of my sad little guesses are anywhere close. I was way off about the fifth!

BTW, where the hell will they go with that? And doesn't it add to the creepiness of Tigh seeing the face of his wife on #6?

EJO said he'd walk away from the show when unrealistic things like blue skined aliens walked around on set

Personally I liked the show but I quit once everyone started listening to Bob Dylan and Girlpower-Starbuck came back from the dead

that to me is when the series got stupid and unrealistic

ratings and the drop in viewers prove EJO's acting performance only has so much coolness, the show has only so much pull when the story starts to go way South

I'm hoping they wrap those loose ends too. It's a bit too much like Lost right now in that respect.

While I did like the ending to the Dark Tower Series (the only person on the planet I think, also I kind of saw it coming), I don't think I would like that sort of ending as far as BSG goes. They do have a lot to answer for.

I'm big on guessing too (I was right when I guessed they'd find the Earth in ruins), but was off about the fifth. I'm wondering if what they gave us about the fifth was a red herring however.

I wonder the same thing (which makes me think red herring). And yeah, it is creepy that he sees her face on 6. Kind of like some sort of odd cylon necrophilia in a way.

Several scenes and lines from this week's show lead me to believe they are setting up Adama as the "dying leader," and since the two part finale is entitled "Daybreak," I think they are going to steer clear of a totally depressing ending.

Oh I think the will as well. Going all the way back to "33" the show has been about finding hope in the worst situations and the last few episodes, things have definitely gotten pretty bad. I'm happy with the Helen choice although I had wanted it to be Billy. Boy, wouldn't that have driven the president over the edge.

Anyway, I think you're right, Adama is the dieing leader. Still don't know what's up with Starbuck but I think Gaeta (that man has a chip on his shoulder the size of a leg) and Zarek will be shuffled off soon. I think right now they're resolving minor character issues and slimming down the cast so the very end can focus on the major characters and plot issues such as the starbuck thing and where will home end up being, wtf is up with Baltar, etc.

I'm still not convinced it is Helen. As someone said earlier in the thread it might have just been Tigh's mind playing tricks on him. I really thought/think its Dee, she was having flashbacks on the planet playing with those jacks(IMO). I posit that Dee killed herself so she could download into another body and tell the others about Earth.

Just wait, he's going to post that ratings graph, any second now... it's like the cornerstone of his existence.

So, I guess the fifth is really the fifth? I do like Calhoun's idea, since Dee's suicide was just so damned bizarre.

Another question: why must a skinjob consciousness be downloaded to the same model anyway? Why can't more than one character be the fifth? We had more than one Sharon sharing rather intimate memories of Helo, right? So can't memories be held be more than one model at a time?

New-Battlestar could have stayed a cool show
it had a nice story, nice actors
but its become a steaming pile of shit
Bob Dylan music for me and Finding Earth is when it "Jumped the Shark" or "Joined the Circus ".
and yes critics are right to deliver criticism and yes ratings have taken a dive as BSG fans walked away.

Of course like the Lucas Drones who think every StarWars movie is perfect you also get another bunch of Drones following Ron Moore and David Eick around like lost puppies.
The show might have lost ratings but these drones would even continue worship the piss stains on David Eick's toilet bowl

Our criticism is just, about 1 year ago Skiffy ran a Firefly Vs BSG poll, taunting us browncoats and posting invites on this site. A lot of people got badly burnt and many browncoats got their emails blocked

Skiffy drew first blood by first slaming firefly and second banning browncoats. This is first and foremost a firefly forum, and not a forum where people worship Ron Moore's anus

If these are the kinds of turds and drones you people defend, and if you no longer enjoy Firefly then the likes of you assholes can fuck back off to skiffy

If you don't like the cooking here you can always
fuck back off to those retarded battlestar shipper appreciation threads at skiffy

Wow, someone is cranky. Scratch that. Someone is a major nutjob asshole with an inexplicable hatred for people who like a TV show.

It's a Firefly site, so if we like another SciFi show, we should "fuck off". Why can't we like both.

You call anyone who likes another show a drone... do you actually not get the irony there, moron?

Screw you, chump. Who gives a fuck about a poll anyway.

Oh, and plenty of critics are still raving for it, and the ratings drop has been debunked many a time, as it's one of the most DVR'd shows on the air, which are not reflected in the ratings as posted.

You really are a rageing asshole. You don't like the show, fine. But it says a lot about your character, none of it good, that you feel the need to attack others who do.

So, again, fuck you, asshole.

About 1 year ago battlestar assholes specifically came on to this site to start trouble. They taunted us and ran a poll at skiffy's site BSG vs Serenity. That stuff is cool, I don't mind it and interaction between fan groups is cool.

However what is not cool is the way the treated us and rigged this so called fair game. A number of people who logged on here from Skiffy claiming to be browncoats but were really a bunch of turncoat informants. A good chunk of the battlestar fan group behaved like immature assholes, once Serenity got ahead of Battlestar many of them turned into turncoat informants and many of us here got our emails blocked.

This is a special request to those who may feel a need to feed the troll (including myself!): fight the urge, please. This thread is about discussing the last episodes of BSG, not sparring with the emotionally unbalanced. Let's ignore, not escalate, ok?

Thanks! :)

So... Starbuck - dead? Is she a mysterious 13th? Or is she getting faked out by those with ulterior motives? The body in the shipwreck might not have been her, but might have been set up for her to find. How creepy, that she found it while being accompanied by the cyclon who had that very strange fling with her. You know, back when she was captured (On Caprica?) and he fooled her into thinking she'd had a daughter.

She even had experimentation done on her at an earlier point. Yeah - I feel like she's been pretty seriously messed with. And it is a bummer. I miss the bad attitude bigger-than-life hot shot pilot she was in season 1.

My other question: are we absolutely certain that that was earth? They were led there by the aforementioned messed-with Starbuck, after all.

Yes, back to actual sensible discussions!

I hadn't thought about the idea of the body being a plant actually, I had always assumed she died and was not-to-trusting of the "starbuck" that came back.
It definitely was creepy (and a highlight of the episode, which in of itself was already pretty damn fantastic)
It really does feel like the show is moving towards an end and I'm so excited. Most of the shows I've been a fan of, if they had been given a chance to sum things up, only do so in the last couple of episodes. Its only now that I realise 10 episodes is perfect, because its still BSG doing what it does best, having great momentum without feeling overly rushed.

And for the record, I'm coming over to the line of thinking some fans are having that maybe Adama is the "dying leader" prophesied about.
If he's to lead the crew to Earth, then who knows. Maybe that wasn't Earth we saw in the past couple of episodes

I don't give a flying fuck about your spam. I didn't have anything to do with it, and I'd wager no one else here is responsible. Sure, you have a right to be pissed - AT THE PEOPLE WHO DID THAT - not just anyone who happend to like the show.

Yea, sounds like the BSG fans over there acted immature - so how does that make it okay for you to come HERE and take it out on fellow Browncoats, just because they happen to like the other show as well? Or were you just trying to prove you could be even more immature?

SAttacking us just for liking the show is a total dick move. The rest of your rationalization is bullshit that doesn't relate to us, nor excuse your asshole behavior.

But that wasn't critisism. You didn't "critique" anything about the show - That was a flat out attack on anyone who likes it. By the way, Joss is one of those fans, too, and even tried to get onboard to direct an episode.

And yeah, that is how I respond to an unwarranted personal attack. And when called on it, all you have is "other people were mean to me, so it makes it okay".

Fucking dick.

He did have a criticism, BTW it went something like Finding Earth is when it "Joined the Circus"
The trouble is both of you decided to ignore those comments on the series and instead act like a bunch of dicks throwing insults back and forth at each other.

If you want to complain about another fan or your spam from another site, do it some other place but doing it here is
NOT COOL
We get enough civil wars going on in the politics section as it is

Also I don't get this whole logic on how Joss loves a show named X therefore we must all follow Joss like a bunch of Sheeple and suddenly adore a series he watches.
Newsflash for some of you people Joss is also human, Joss does great work but he also watches garbage like the rest of us. He also adores junk like Friends, Rosanne, that lame Beauty and the Beast series and he thinks Alien-4 is a great movie. Joss is very human, he makes mistakes, he watches silly shows and Serenity could have been a much better. If Joss wants to watch something crap I don't see why we should all follow like a bunch of sheep.

Battlestar is done for me, I found the BSG shock twists to be stupid, the show depressing. The series would have worked much better had it stayed with the season 1 vibe, gritty and goth but with some upbeat humor mixed in. and whatever momentum and relevance the show had back during season one and two it doesn't have it today.

But that was a very, very minor part of the post, not the thrust. The thrust of the post was, if you like this show, you're an asshole drone, and that's unacceptable.

That minor "critique" was merely an excuse to attack people who happen to like a show he doesn't.

I simply cannot understand how pathetic a person has to be to have to go and attack someone for that. There are plenty of shows I don't like - but I don't waste my, or anyone else's time by going into threads about those shows and throwing childish temper tantrums over things no one here had anything to do with.

Exactly my point. No one here, as far as I know, was responsible for any of that, nor do we deserve to be the brunt of his rage over what other people did.

My point wasn't that we should like everything Joss does - my point was he was calling all BSG fans drones and all other kinds of names, while praising Joss, completely oblivious to the fact that the guy he worships falls into the same group of "drones" he was attacking.

SINGATE

Did anyone actually watch this week's show? This was perhaps the most tension filled episode of the entire series. I didn't think the writers or actors could top the events from the New Caprica storyline or the whole Adam vs. Cain conflict but every scene in this most recent episode was full on intensity.

Here's something a lot of folks may not like: Gaeta and Zarek may not be in the wrong here. For the most part the series has been shown to us through the eyes of Adama and Roslin so they are the "heroes" of the story. Something a lot of people have lost sight of in the whole "let's play nice with our new Cylon allies" is that they are still responsible for billions of deaths. Is it a sensible decision to side with these rebel Cylons? Yes, but I have to believe that a very large percentage of the survivors are not on board with this. Nowhere was this more evident than when Adama was removed from command by his own Marines.

This episode really kicked things into gear for the stretch run.
