Two icons of TV and film with ties to sci fi died today.
Ricardo Montalban died this morning. He will forever be remembered for being "Khan" in "Star Trek III the Wrath of Khan", Mr. Roarke of "Fantasy Island". and for those of a certain age, the Chrysler spokesperson made the phrase "Fine Corinthian leather" famous (and Billy Crystal on SNL when said that phrase too).

Patrick McGoohan, star of "The Prisoner" and King Edward "Longshanks" in "Braveheart" died today also. He was 80.

I remember him best as Number 6 on "The Prisoner". I never quite understood it but I enjoyed him trying to outwit his captors.

I actually watched THE PRISONER over the summer and really dug it. While some of it was really out of date, it still packed a WTF punch that not even TWIN PEAKS or LOST could come up with.

"I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own."

As for Ricardo Montalban, even though Khan made him immortal, I remember him more as Armando, the human that helped Zira and Cornelius in ESCAPE and Caesar in CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.

"And it starts with a sentence that might last a lifetime, or it all might just go down in flames. If I let you know me, then why would you want me? Each day I don't is a shame. Each day I don't is a great shame."

Loudon Wainwright III - "Strange Weirdos" off the "Knocked Up" soundtrack

May both Rest In Peace.

ST II was Wrath of Khan.
ST III was Search for Spock.

I loved Ricardo Montalban's commercials as the "TechieGold fish"!
