The first being Firefly, but Dark Angel's first season was better than Trek, Buffy, Angel, or any other genre show you can name! Yes, even better than Brisco.
This is indisputable fact, my friends. Wanna fight about it? I'm prepared.

Holy Crap! What gives? I feel like you and I have been captured by the Romans and have been thrown into the arena to fight against one another! This aint suppose to happen!?

Just to contest your dead cert that Dark Angel season one is the best season (after Firefly) to all others', how about:

Northern Exposure season 1
Burn Notice season 1
Lost season 1

Had a plethora of fascinating characters, but couldn't begin to touch the emotional weight of DA.

Burn Notice season 1

Another show I love as well as Northern Exposure, but again, lightweight in dramatic tone when compared.

Lost season 1

That had the weight, certainly, but not the search for one's self & place in life that is ultimately more satisfying than mere 'Prisoner Re- Dos'.

I have to agree, Dark Angel first season was excellent. I am also a fan of Roswell and the first season of that is tied with DA for me.

I think it was brilliant. Well written, acting was excellent. The premise was interesting. If you asked me to pick the favorite child between DA and Roswell I would be unable.

eta: both, however, jumped the shark a bit in the second season - Roswell more than DA

Plus Shiri Appleby is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cute!

A bit too Dawson's creek though with the lead characters. But an enjoyable yarn all the same.

I think Jason Behr (the lead alien) is one of the most underrated actors in Hollyweird. Him and our Nathan.

The new Battlestar Galactica season 1 blows the living hell out of Dark Angel's first season.

I dispute your claim.

Only problem is that season one ends on a cliffhanger, so you have to see at least a few eps from 2 for a sense of closure.

The New BSG is cold & clinical, without a real sense of humour, and devoid of relatable human situations; it is a dark space opera....that had no plan.

ECGORDON

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I agree that Firefly is still at the top of the list, and I also agree that Dark Angel Season One was very good. But in my opinion, there are quite a few others that I like more.

Not necessarily in this order:
Pushing Daisies
Wonderfalls
Battlestar Galactica One
American Gothic
Babylon 5 Three & Four
Buffy Two & Three
Angel Three & Four
Lost One & Four
Twin Peaks One

And even some non-genre stuff:
Arrested Development
Freaks and Geeks
Gilmore Girls Four & Five
Veronica Mars One

Sorry, Chris, but I think you're wrong about the humour in Dark Angel adding to the story, it was just the opposite for me. The compelling story of Max and her relationship with Logan was squandered on too many scenes with Sketchy, Herbal Thought and Original Cindy. They were just not believable in that environment, or perhaps I should say they weren't welcome to this viewer.

I have the dvds for all of the ones I listed, and will get the final ones of Pushing Daisies, BSG and Lost when they are available, and will probably rewatch them frequently. However, I sold my Dark Angel dvds on ebay a year or so ago because I was pretty sure I'd not be wanting to revisit them after the two or three viewings I gave them.

Honestly, I had a few problems with season one, and some BIG ones with season two, but the structure of the stories, the love dynamic, one of the best big bads ever (Lydecker), and the overall production values drew me in to the point where the good not only outweighs the bad, it blinds me to it.
Your mileage obviously varied quite a bit from mine.

You wouldn't have a sense of humor either if twelve of your planets got blown up.

It's about as "human" as you can get, given the dyer situations.
Chrisisall,
You know, I expected more from you.

How many times have you repeated this thread?
Can't disagree with paloozaisall about Dark Angel being 2nd, at least in the genre.
But ECGORDON reminds me of some points. DA was produced in, and succumbed to the influence of the fad period when all pop culture assumed that all future society would devolve into hip-hop derivations, and sadly DA was a prime example. Always irked me when the show was on, and it was a detraction from a fine show. Despite that fault, I still enjoyed it more than any other scifi between Six Million Dollar Man and Firefly.
Counting other genre, I'd have to place Due South ahead, tho.
