America loves a winner!

I know it's like a cult flick and all, and I did enjoy it, better than I expected.

But I gotta say...what the hell ?

And I know there've been post on DD before, but I've neglected to read them ( much ) because I hadn't seen the movie yet.

Well, now I have.

And I don't get it.

I had to look up allot of stuff to understand it, and I'm still not sure if I do.

Great movie though.

Weird that you bring it up, AURaptor, I also just recently saw it for the first time. I think I understood most of it, but that doesn't matter, it's pretentious, sophomoric and totally over-rated. The acting was particularly bad, how either of the Gyllenhaals got more roles after this is beyond me (seriously, is there any movie that Saggie Gyllenhurl has appeared in where she didn't drag it down!? No acting talent, no looks, just awful in every way).

Donnie has to die so that his girlfriend can live, *yawn*. Who didn't see that "twist" coming?

One thing I didn't understand was the Patrick Swayze-character subplot, what did that have to do with anything? Was that put in there just for shock-effect? Or to illustrate some point about people who tell others how to live have the most to hide themselves? Either way, it was juvenile.

I should stop, the more I think about this movie the more I get irritated by the banality of it. On what it accomplished, I shouldn't give it more than 5/10, but I'm in a generous mood, so I'll give it 6/10.

Why travel back in time if all it did was wipe away the last month of his life. So he doesn't meet the girl, doesn't go on vandalizing sprees, doesn't uncover the self help guy of being a child porn freak, why kill Frank, if it was an accidnet ? and what about the fat chick w/ the ear muffs ? How does her life get better ? And what was the deal w/ his mom, at the end of the movie. She looked less grief stricken and more relieved than anything.

Liked the movie, but not sure what I was watching.

"Saggie Gyllenhurl?" - ouch! But basically I agree with your assessment - never been able to see what others apparently see in the woman. I don't think she loused up Dark Knight too bad...but that would've taken a lot of lousing. I'd like to have seen Morena in that role...I mean really...a LOT...

As for Donnie Darko, never seen it. Not that I wouldn't - it just holds a place of semi-hemi-demi honor on a long list of movies I should/would see...

It was like that when we got here!

That movie is great. I got to see it a while back in say eighth grade back when seth rogan wasnt famous yet. It was kinda weird to watch as a little kid but after watching it in my highschool years its been pretty sweet and a hell of a lot easier to understand.

Khyron's opinion is quite apt. Sophomoric was a good description.

I rented this movie last year and watched it twice. At first I was confused by the time-space event. Being an engineer, a scientist, and an astronomer all at once...I researched the events of the film online to better understand it. For about a day I convinced myself that the movie was brilliant. I slept on it. The next morning I awoke to an epiphany that it was, in fact, not brilliant at all. It was trite and predictable. I was astonished at myself for not seeing this clearly on the first go-around, but I now believe my mind was captured by the time paradox. Once I worked it all out, I awoke and understood its....banality.

Another good word Khyron.
