Lemme tell ya, it's Hulk by the numbers, hitting all the right marks, but two things raise this above the standard superhero fare; the incredible amount of 'nodds' to the TV series, and Ed Norton, a superb actor in his own right, and the best Banner since Bixby.
Forget all the hoopla over the deleted scenes or the alternate opening- it's all over rated, the movie as is is excellent, period.

Damn, dude - your threads usually put asses at the keyboards...must be all the excitement over Sarah P.'s clothing allowance eating up your share of the news cycle.

Haven't seen the latest Hulk, but it's gotta be livelier than its older, slower cousin from a few years ago...and Ed Norton seldom disappoints.

It was like folks were suddenly spending their free-time reading the National Review or sumpin' when we got here!

Funny- I actually kinda liked the other Hulk movie, but now that I've seen this new one, I can never watch it again. Norton owns the role for me.
Plus: no giant hulk-poodles.

I would have posted earlier but RealLife(TM) got in the way.

Glad you liked it mate, I thought you might. At least we can agree on this one.

And that you liked the nods to the TV show. Particularly loved the little bit of the 'Lonely Man' theme and seeing him in the chair being 'gammared' up at the start.
Even Stan Lee's cameo worked well and wasn't corny like some of his others.

Norton is always good, a proper actor. I don't think anyone could beat Bill Bixby in his day for this role, but Norton gets close. He was just right for it, an everyman put in a bad situation.
Plus Tim Roth as well.

I felt the first one got some bits right but it didn't really blend the comic side of things with the realistic side, and it took far too long to get going. But this one got it just right without going over the top. A fine story, well played out, with enough action set pieces to counter the talkie bits.

"I don't believe in suicide, but if you'd like to try it it might cheer me up to watch."

And don't forget when he tried to say the "Don't make me angry..." line in Portugese, but it came out as "Don't make me hungry. You wouldn't like me when I'm hungry... That can't be right."

I loved that movie so much, it was the perfect combo of comic & TV show....

Bixby would have been proud.

Not to get all tangential, but anybody remember The Magician? It was Bixby's all-too-short series from 1973. I was but a wee snot then, and can only really recall a handful of scenes...but I remember REALLY wanting to be a magician when I grew up (still waiting on the growing-up thing, BTW), and it was largely because of that show.

Damned writers' strike...

ETA The theme music was pretty inspirational, too...

It was like that - and then it wasn't! - when we got here!

Too bad Norton isn't going to do another Hulk movie.
I would have loved to see a sequel.
