The following link makes me angry. Very angry. I'm experiencing a fury that only a fellow browncoat would understand.

Will Fox kill Watchmen? This is the question on the table. Fox is asserting ownership of the Watchmen property that WB disputes. The movie was greenlighted to begin principal filming this summer but things have halted awaiting the outcome of this issue. The way I read it, Fox sold it's rights in 1994, before the comic book movies were a big thing. Now that Fox has seen the enourmous success of 300 and Dark Knight, they want a piece of the profits. After going over the 1994 agreement, they assert that contracts were not followed to the letter allowing them to budge in and demand money.

Money. Watchmen might be killed because of money. Firefly would have been a big moneymaker in 2002 and they walked away from it. Now they might well kill the film adapation of the greatest graphic novel of all time over the same issue. Somebody ought to travel to meet some fox execs and hand them a trident so if they choose to kill a third albatross they won't have to leave their seats.

To me Watchmen is serious business. I'm not some fanboy going to his first comics rodeo. I read Watchmen in 1987 and knew it's greatness then and have been waiting 21 years for this film.

God I hate fox.

Do not fear me. Our's is a peaceful race and we must live in harmony.

I don't think it's going to amount to much. Warner's hit the same problem with DUKES OF HAZZARD, and they ended up settling. So I think they're going to settle with Fox for a huge amount of cash, and then go their separate ways.

Same here. I was chit-chatting with my bf and not paying all that much attention to the screen, and suddenly out of the corner of my eye there was Rorschach! Of course I sat up straight and focused on the screen for the rest of the trailer.

Being horribly out of it as far as comix and graphic novels are concerned, I'd never even heard of Watchmen until posts about it started popping up here - and I found myself wanting to know what the heck is was all about! Now I'm bummed that this thing that I never knew about might be gone before I got to know about it.

Wait - that sounds familiar. Something about a spaceship... a bunch of renegades... some western elements... Nope, can't think of what it was.

:)

I seriously doubt Watchmen will be shelved. Fox is trying to hijack distribution rights from Warner, and therefore share in the profits for a movie they didn't spend a dime on.

Hopefully some smart judge will throw out this lawsuit when it comes to trial!

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.
