Nope , it ain't tampering...

It's ' art restoration '. I like it...

I Love it...I want some more of it...

It's giving ' new life ' to an old masterpiece...

One of the niggles with Classic Trek was all the planets looked too similar , 'cause the old
' opticals ' tended to be re-used over and over again...

Same with the ship exteriors...I like the new
' beauty shots ' of the good ship ENTERPRISE!

There are some new digital mattes that have enhanced exterior shots of architecture on some planetary surfaces , too .

One thing that has taken me out-of-story a few times is some lighting that now seems a little oddly-colored versus the 'original' prints...I'm still deciding if the amped-up color of some lighting is just truer to the original stock , or it's boosted for ' creative ' reasons...

Thanks to the Okudas for their dedicated work and research !

A thing of beauty is a joy forever...

Amen, brother. I see you are of the body, that is good .
I also love the restorative work done on the director's cut of STTMP.

I've only seen clips, but it looked pretty respectfully done and minimalist compared with "remastered" versions of certain other major SF franchises. No physically inexplicable annular shock-waves racing out from explosions, I hope?

What would be a pity, though, is if the pioneering work of the original FX artists became lost and forgotten - Star Trek is a pretty important milestone in the history of the medium.

The original versions will be available; I'll always respect their expertise given the resources.
To peeps like myself that grew up on TOS, it will always be in in my mind- to new fans, the distraction of dated FX will not detract from the EXCELLENT writing of the series, IMO.

Thanks for the clip Chris. I have the DVD set now; hard to tell if the upgrade is worth it. Is it a must in your opinion?

I saw Squire Of Gothos remastered at my Dad's house on cable, and the subtle yet striking differences just blew me away.
Then I saw the FX in Doomsday Machine...A MUST in my humble opinion, at least for season 2.
I'll get 1 when they release it in NOT HD.

FREMDFIRMA

Kirk - "We're moving, and the Enterprise isn't. Maybe that thing will see us, and let the Enterprise go. If I only had some phasers..."

Scott - "Phasers? You got 'em – I have one bank recharged."

Kirk - "Scotty! You just earned your pay for the week – stand by."

Ah, Good Ole Scotty, his basic philosophy never, ever discounted that regardless of mission, the Constitution (and later Enterprise) Class vessel was a *heavy cruiser*, built for the express purpose of kicking the crap out of stuff.

Hell, I bet when Kirk called him, he was down in Bay One trying to figure how to manhandle a torpedo into the loading tube...

Concur, some of the lighting looks a bit strange, but remember they went real heavy on the color effects even back then to disguise just how limited their sets were.

Balance of Terror looks NICE, I'll give it that, and I still snicker when Kirk sneaks in the opportunity (just before the PlasTorp hits them) for a quick cuddle with the nearest femme...

Force of habit, guess we can call it, heh heh.

The Doomsday & Constellation look very real now, not like plastered newspaper & a burned AMT model kit...

With Firefly coming out later this year on Blu-Ray, you have to cross over. You have to. Do it for the new special features, or to see all the brilliant episodes looking bloody brilliant. Just do it

I am a fan of the new remastered versions and have quite a few of the episodes.
To me this type of fx upgrade is fine because it doesn't change the essence of what the show was originally about. Or make it seem out of place and unrealistic. If anything it adds to the stories because you get better visuals for the exterior scenes and on the monitor, so it is clearer as to what is going on. Ships actually move rather than 'listing lazily to the left'.

S'all good stuff and nice to see a really good job done, not just cheap, rushed, modern looking effects. These fit with the originals.

Cool stuff.

It will take me some time before I go BluRay. Just when you buy the latest high-tech device they come out with a new one. In a year or two they will have RedGlaze or some such nonsense. I remember buying my Commodore 64 and I was told it was so great I would never have to buy another computer. Ha!

Yup, Things do get outdated rather fast. That being said, Standard dvd's will be around for a long time to come. I continue to buy them, and still marvel at how great they are(so much better than my old laserdisc collection which I ended up giving to the Goodwill) Blu-Ray is more of a luxury, and not "the norm".

A friend of mine bought a laserdisk player. That is just what I am talking about. It was old news before he got it out of the box.

News of Season 2 of Star Trek seems a bit sketchy and not easy to find on line. I wasn't even looking here and of course, the Browncoats come through. Normally Amazon offers advance sales as do people on ebay but I haven't been able to find any.

Season 1 was well worth it, and I'm sure the Okuda's won't disappoint with season 2. That clip of Who mourns for Adonis was good. The CGI ship shots are just stunning.

Yep, this kid has all three seasons of the normal version too, it's easy to justify buying the remake.

Go for it. I remember watching these Star Trek episodes on our old black and white back in the sixties. When I finally saw them in color it was like watching a whole new show. Always follow your heart. There may be unpleasnt surprises at times, but the are outweighed by the grand prizes we discover.

Star Trek was not only a great show but it kicked the door down for future space adventure series. I don't believe we would have had Firefly without this show. So many great SciFi series followed on this shows success.

Don't think I'll be getting S3, and S1 is too expensive right now 'cause of the HD content, but this season is my fave anyway- so I'm as happy as a Tiberian bat in quantum-guano.
