I had only seen a couple of disjointed Farscape episodes in the past because I do not have cable. But recently Fancast made the first season available. Someone posted this fact here and I would like to thank them.

After finally seeing the episodes in the proper order and getting a full seasons worth I thoroughly enjoyed this series.

It certainly helps to know who is who and what the hell is going on.

Now I have ordered all four seasons and the Peace Keeper Wars. I ordered through a local book / DVD / coffee shop near my home because I like to give them business when I can and it also turns out that season one may prove difficult to get. Curse the inevitable betrayal. This shop has more resources then I do, so I am hopeful I will get season one in some manner.

So I have now joined the ranks of Farscape fans.

You guys just keep pulling me in. My Firefly DVD's are really getting a workout. Fortunately I also have Wonderfalls to give my Firefly collection a break before they start smoking in my player.

So I looked in here to see who posted the thread about Farscape, but the thread must be in one of the other discussion groups. I want say again thank you so very much.

It's funny you should post this. This is exactly how I got into Babylon 5.

Let me know how it turns out. I've been eyeballing Farscape and Stargate for a while now. I have a hard time getting past the Muppets in Space idea.

So I'm interested in your input. I mean you liked Buster Crabbe's Flash Gordon, right?

I'm right there with ya - I had a hard time getting my head around the Muppets idea, but it works. The coolest thing about the show, for me, was Moia, the ship. She's *alive*. A living starship...now there's something you don't see every day.

I've only seen the first couple seasons of Farscape, but I look forward to finishing it one of these days.

Hello safeat2nd:

If you want to get a taste of Farscape, the first season can be seen at Fancast.com. But Fancast does a poor job of putting the episodes in proper order. I have no clue why they scramble the episodes, but they do.

Here is the episode order as I know it from Wikipedia. After watching it I am sure this is correct.

Primier

1 E.T.

Exudus of Genisis

Throne for a Loss

Back and Back and Back to the Future

Thank God It's Friday

PK Tech Girl

That Old Black Magic

DNA Mad Scientist

They've Got a Secret

Till Blood Runs Clear

Rhapsody in Blue

The Flax

Jeremiah Crichton

Durka Returns

A Human Reaction

Through the Looking Glass

A Bug's Life

Nerve

Hidden Memory

Bone to be Wild

Family Ties

When you get to the screen, in Fancast, with the Farscape episodes you have to place your curser over the picture and look at the bottom of your screen and the episode titles will be listed there. Fancast does not put the title of the episode in their descriptions. A real pain.

Most of the characters are some sort of humanoid. The few Muppet characters are well done. They compare with the exotic aliens you have seen in Star Wars films. Farscape also shares Firefly's aspect of putting a mixed bag of characters together on special ship, called Moya. So far the series has not fallen into a stale formula. There are plot twists and also new developments added to keep the show fresh.

Of course there is no Dr. Zarkov, like Flash Gordon had, to invent powerful devices to fight off Ming The Merciless, but I still like this show anyway.

As for purchasing the DVD's, the fans at IMBd say get the "Farscape Starburst" sets. The fans say thay are a better quality and have more special features. They are also a little cheaper. Each season is broken down into three sets of seven or eight episodes. The first season is the problem. As I said in my first post I am using the resources of a store that sells DVD's to hunt down the best available first season set. I may have to buy slightly used. I Hope not.

You had to mention Babylon 5. Now I'm getting the urge to order that series. To many great SciFi shows out there and not enough money in my pocket.

Thanks Traveler, I'll check it out, although I am one to test my luck by purchasing the DVD sets, if the price is right mind you. It's how I got into Firefly. Babylon 5 was avaliable at Costco in Canada for $20 a season. Pretty much snapped 'em up based on input from this site.

Kwicko, I am more intrigued by Farscape than Stargate. If the "muppets" are done ok, like you and Traveler said, I think I can see my way past that hang-up.

Off to browse Amazon and Chapters... free shipping here I come

Hello EmpireX:

Sorry about any confusion. As I said I am going through a store near my home that obviously has more resourses than I. At this time I am not even sure of the price since the owner is still searching. It is not that he has not found it, but he is looking for the best price.

Sorry again. I should have mentioned the problem with the first season at the begining of the post. But remember you can see the first season at Fancast.com.

Take Care;

And kisses right back to you.

You may be in for sticker shock. Perhaps a 2nd mortgage will be in order. All kidding aside, though this is one of my favorite TV shows it will remain absent from my collection because it is the most overpriced series in the history of DVDs.

Hello Singate:

That is what I have heard. I really don't understand why they came out with these Starburst collections for the other seasons and there is nothing available for season one. I just may go into sticker shock and buy only the later seasons. According to what I've seen they are not to bad.

I told the store owner that when he does learn something I might just change my mind at buy Stargate Atlantis. At least I know they are reasonably priced.

Also. This has been the first time I have been able to post here in about three days. I don't know if the website got a bug or the mainframe blew a fuse.

I'm a bit jealous. I started my Farscape experience, pretty much the same way I started my Firefly experience. A random episode or two on Fox some weekend afternoon.

I've seen Seasons 2 & 3, and the Peace Keeper Wars. Thank you Netflix. I will be buying them all. I am still a tad upset about Season 1 - not even Netflix can get it. So, I'm giving up the search for now and buying it on iTunes - $39.99. Does it suck? Yes, but it's better than nothing.

Yeah, what Yotz ever yanked this show?! I've got the whole frellin' Starburst Collection, my own self. Seen it all. Even managed to develop a small crush on our monochromatic little friend while I was at it, but it's all good. :) So, welcome, Traveler! Also, Moya is pleased to have you onboard! :)

COSMICFUGITIVE

Farscape had a very stylised, textured, almost comic book feel to its presentation. This bled over to the costumes, set design and prosthetics.

The same applies to otherworldly characters like Chiana or Zan, who relied on full body make up. However, the puppets and alien characters were played with screwed up, honest, emotional depth.

The inclusion of 'puppets' didn't really affect my viewing experience. In my head, Rygel was a real, living thing. Kudos to the operators and voice actor to give the character a loveable quality, and more importantly 'personality.'

On a budgetary level, the costumes, animatronics and cgi were top notch. It was like watching a mini movie each week.

I watched Farscape during its original run.

The show is/was unique. I'm trying to think back to what other shows aired during that era. This was almost a decade ago, which means that shows like Stargate SG1, Buffy and Angel, The X-Files, Charmed, were either still in their infancy, or were hitting the middle of their run.)

Farscape was pretty much in a league of its own back then. It even had its own 'Galactica style' curse words and dictionary.

It never took itself too seriously, and when it did, the viewer was taken on an action packed/emotional rollercoaster.

There are some fantastically weird episodes that revolve around Crichton, and his nemesis Scorpius. (I won't go into detail about that here.) Although, Scorpius is definitely one of the best tv sci-fi villians out there, and he makes for captivating viewing.

Because of the difficulty of getting the first season my initial desires to obtain the entire episodes of this fanatastic show may turn into a farce.

But it has been nice hearing from everyone here and I do not regret starting this thread.

I'm sure I will still buy the other seasons. They remain reasonably priced. Maybe Farscape should have only lasted 14 episodes then it would be cheap. Just kidding. But it seems strange that Firefly and othe great short lived series are available and first season of Farscape seems to be this hidden treasure kept locked away.

I am sure in some distant future the first season will return to the shelves of Best Buy and Amazon. The powers that be won't keep this locked up for ever.

Thanks everybody for your replies. There were so many excellent scenes in Farscape, I want more. Just like I want more Firefly.
