Here's the teaser for the The Day the Earth Stood Still remake:

Looks interesting, but unfortunately it apparently has an eco-nut subtext.

Gah!

They've changed so much of the movie. Why? Why?! Keanu promised to make a faithful adaptaion...he lied. Just make a the movie and give it a new name. If it's a different movie why not just change the name?

Sigh. I'll wait to see how it does.

hmmmm well since Mr. Reeves is neither writing nor directing, not sure he has much control.

Twentieth Century Fux removed the video due to copyright. What a surprise.

Actually that's good I don't have to suffer looking at it.

But Keanu? Really? REALLY REALLY? That there's just downright disturbing.

Hollywood never learned when they remade A miracle on 34th Street & War of the Worlds & they won't learn now.

YOU DO NOT TOUCH THE CLASSICS.

This is why we can't have nice things.

If one never touched the classics then how would one perform Hamlet? Or Macbeth? Wouldn't we be bored with just 1 vampire movie?

One should give it a chance before one declares it to be crap.

My new response to anything and everything the idiots say to me at work will be to stare blankly at them for a few longish short seconds and then say "You should let me go".

If someone could follow around behind me with a stereo playing a significantly eery crescendo of music that would be good.

Because the original didn't have a political agenda at all. OMG how dare they?

You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.

Different media - different rules. Its a characteristic of live theater that each production and each performance is unique. Its a characteristic of cinema that a movie is a frozen snapshot of a particular performance.

Even so, productions of Shakespeare plays might experiment with different settings and "dramatic interpretations", and may even omit the odd sub-plot for length, but they don't generally completely change the story and just keep the title for brand recognition. Even the Reduced Shakespeare Company stick to the bloody plot!

If you want to re-write Macbeth so that Macbeth wins, you call the result "Dune" not "Macbeth". Ditto "Forbidden Planet". Or, for that matter, if you want to take major liberties with the plot of a short story called "Farewell to the Master" you have the decency to re-name it "The Day the Earth Stood Still".

Having said that (I missed the teaser) - Keanu as Klatu seems like reasonable casting to me - if there's one thing he's good at its other-worldly detachment.

LOL, yeah, the original had nothing to say about war or our danger to this planet- it was a straight up action flick, LOL.

Thanks Fox for reminding me what d*cks you are and for that I'm boycotting this movie
PS
I normally hate remakes anyhow, most suck
Rob Zombie's Halloween, Burton's Planet of the Apes, the Pink Panther remade etc all crap
so I probably would be avoiding this one nonetheless

Now hold on. To put Shakespere on that list is wrong because his plays were meant to be acted over and over. He set it up that way. And Vampire movies, well nothing was said about redoing genre's. There's a reason they are just that, genre's, classification of a theme. And TDTESS is part of the genre' of Science Fiction. Yes I'd be bored if we got the same theme over and over (though since there are no original ideas anymore everything is a rehash of something that's been done)

But to redo something that by it's own merits still stands up to anything phonywood can produce these days just because they can no longer be bothered to seeking out better and more unique stories, just to make that quick buck. No, I'm sorry. I stand by what I say. YOU DO NOT REDO SOMETHING THAT'S ALREADY A GOOD PIECE.

TDTESS is not a genre' itself, it's not like people are holding plays with one of the actors in a large robotic suit quoting "Klatuu Verata Nickto." It was a standalone one piece movie (which fortunately came out in a time before sequels were a must) So to compare it that way is wrong.

This is just phonywood being lazy and uninspired and frankly I'm getting sick of it. These days it's not "Let's do something new," it's "Just go through the archives and see if we can adapt something that somebody has already done," and that's cheap and an insult to fans of these shows and the original creators. And can we say there aren't more worthy things for phonywood to be spending their money on? Something the form of a sequel? Something unique to the genre?

So I'll go on record as saying this was a bad idea, that certain things shouldn't be touched, and as it's my right I will refuse to see something I think is a travesty in the making.

Forgive any hostility that may come across this post, but this newest fad of phoneywoods has pissed me off. Has anyone SEEN the fiasco that is Miracle?

To paraphrase an appropriate quote:

"I'm probably not alone in thinking that is this the worst idea since Greedo shooting first, but a 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' remake? Who would pay to see that?"

Sorry, it's not going to be me. The teaser trailer looks bad enough...and usually the best parts of the film are in the trailer. I'll avoid it!
