Just a public service announcement: a later posting the thread Is it just me- or does Galactica's third season BLOW? contains information you really, really don't want to know if you plan on watching BSG S3.

We're talking "Darth Vader is Luke's " and "The chick from The Crying Game is a " level spoilers here.

It wasn't me.

Seriously - I agree. And the poster has disappeared. Can someone else put spoiler tags on it?

The sci-fi commercials for season 4 also contain HUGE spoliers, so turn away and cover your ears.

I stopped watching S3 because it didn't grab me like previous seasons. ('round ep 3) The commercials already ruined it for me. So I went into the mentioned thread to find out what other people thought too and why. Fully expecting the reasoning to be explained thru actual events in the show. How could you discuss this topic without the plot lines?

IMO, its kinda like "coffee is hot" label on your cup o' joe.

Um... I haven't seen anything in the commercials that gives this particular spoiler away, but then I might have missed it. Are you really saying that

Select to view spoiler:

the identity of the final unknown cylons as members of BSG's crew

is common knowledge? And as obvious as "coffee is hot"?

I think PDCHarles' point is that labeling the thread in question as containing spoilers is like pointing out that coffee is hot. Of course the thread has spoilers in it.

Sorry, let me clarify.
The commercial has the characters themselves saying:

Select to view spoiler:

we were cylons all along

Not the weird face-lighting promos I have also seen.

No, I am saying that the TOPIC of the thread named “Is it just me- or does Galactica's third season BLOW?” (classic CisA topic: I’m gonna make u want to read and respond because I feel strongly and your title just really tipped me over the edge thing) seems obvious TO ME that within that thread there would be a great possibility that spoilers would exist. The topic was created to pick and pull out opinions on the decisions made by the writers and the direction they are taking. Otherwise, the “discussion” is taken out of the discussion forum. If a reader is really concerned about not spoiling this season they shouldn’t enter a discussion about an entire season.

Hey, sure the one you are talking about is a HUGE, draw dropping, spoiler. But also a huge development like this surely CAN make or break an argument on whether an ENTIRE season blows or not. I’m now curious where “fat lee” is coming from tho, lol.

I just felt seeing many threads created over time warning about other threads is just a lesson in basic discussion forum understanding. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think that Imnothere shouldn’t have posted it. He/She was just looking out. But, readers with any experience with a forum should try and judge from the topic whether to enter it and read it. You should not trust anonymous, strangers to follow some posting guideline. I know, simple enough right, “hey posters, do this, don’t do that”. As a mod for a relatively large forum, I have never seen member regulated “rules” or even sometimes “common courtesy” work for longer than a couple of days.

I'd agree with you in general - don't go crying to mom if the thread you read about a show you haven't seen yet gives away the plot. However, in this case (a) some of the preceding posts in the thread were clearly from people who had not finished watching the season and (b) the spoilers were such absolute humdingers pertaining to the closing moments of the season finale.

If you mean the commercial I think, it doesn't give any detail away. Not a one.

As for the thread - I guess it's my naivete showing. I've never been a part of any other fandom, and don't really post anywhere but here. Maybe people spoil freely on other sites, but my experience on fff has been that people are very careful. If a thread title doesn't contain an explicit warning, people don't spoil. I've been in several threads on FFF that discuss the merits of various shows without giving major things away - including a zillion threads discussing the BDM when it was newish. People here are careful. Because we're nicer than the average fan community, or so I hear.

And I'll say more because work is desperately boring today and I'll do anything to kill time...
the BSG thread was started by someone who hasn't watched the whole series, and every post before the spoiler one was careful to speak in general terms. There was a tone of: "Oh yeah, keep watching for the big surprise, and the season may redeem itself..." And then some silly yo-yo just goes and posts it. Not cool!

I don't know how it is on other sites, but the FFF culture is to use spoiler tags or at least include a warning in your post, especially when you're the first on a lengthy thread to spill some heavy duty beans. The only way we can stay as nice as we are is to let new people know when they're not playing the game. Or at least, try to prevent our fellow browncoats from being spoiled, as imnothere is doing with this thread.

I am soooo taking this too seriously. Really, work is that bad today. Shoot me now.

I don’t understand why some people have this aversion to posting warnings about spoilers? It’s not going to hurt you and it’s just common courtesy.

Best season so far and an amazing cliffhanger ending. Absolutely what I look for in a sci-fi series. Fraking awesome surprises.
