Hey All

I was just wondering if anyone here saw the latest SOUTH PARK episodes where Kenny and then Mr. Broflaski have a cat pee induced fantasy set in the HEAVY METAL universe. As someone who only saw the original HEAVY METAL movie once a few years ago, I found it a really funny and ultra geeky parody of that movie. And I heard that David Fincher himself is spearheading another HEAVY METAL movie along with the guys that made the TMNT animated movie. With those two things, I'm starting to wonder if HEAVY METAL is going to make a comeback.

I wouldn't say I'm a fan of it. I only saw the movie once and never read any of the magazines. But I like the fact that it's getting made since it represents the possibility of seeing an animated movie that isn't a CGI, celebrity voiced cartoon. Even though I love Pixar and HORTON and the Dreamworks cartoons, I'd like a nice change of pace and see an animated movie that ISN'T geared to kids. That has actual sex and blood in it.

I wonder is somewhere out there in the tidal wave of FIREFLY fanfic is a Heavy Metal version of FIREFLY. Where it's the same, but it just has rock music, all the women fighting in skimpy outfits with even biger breasts than before, and every night on Serenity is just an all our orgy. And would Jossbe horrified or impressed with it?

But the SOUTH PARK ep was really amazing. I don't know how much work they had to do to not only get the rights to it, but to effortlessly blend their style of animation with the pre-existing material, and in less than a week. They need to win an Emmy for that episode, if only for the animation.

"And you never get a real good look at her naked boobs anyways."

I love the later SOUTH PARK episodes not only for being up to date with it's humor, but just for their animation and how they've evolved. The character designs are the same, but there's actual snow, tracking shots, layering, some CG. It's all incredible.

Well, that'd be just somethin'. When I saw the SP ep., I knew I'd seen someat like that before, but couldn't place it. Now, I remember, thanks. And, as I remember, Heavy Metal was pretty entertaining, in and of itself. Gratuitous sex, blood, and gore... Hallelujah!!!

Thank you for starting a thread about this! I saw Heavy Metal when I was too young to know what an over-the-top cheesy teenage boy fantasy it is (I was really too young to be watching it LOL!) so I just thought it was cool. I love the music. I still have the tape, although none of my tape players work anymore. I've tried to rent the movie but it's hard to find - maybe it'll show up in the video store if it really does make a comeback.

And yes, the Southpark episode rocked! Nearly as good as the WoW episode.

You're welcome.

Still waiting on your comments on YCGHA. As it happens, there is a subplot involving River and rock music, but I'll admit that it is a bit uncharacteristic. I was just trying to find something for River to do that didn't involve kicking ass that would lead to the major decision she makes in the story.

Ack! Sorry - I did read it the night I said I would, but then had to go out of town for work and lost track...

Thought provoking stuff in your fic. I only read the most recent four chapters... OK, I don't want to completely hijack this thread. I'll post my impressions on your blog... cool? It'll take me a few to type it up.

[imagine Sammy singing:] call it... Heavy metal... noise...

Were you bummed that they didn't follow up on the WWII scene? With the bomber plane? The one kid's dad started on the plane, but then just landed back in Kenny's breast land. There was more to the movie than breasts. A little more, anyway LOL!

The fact that the WW2 bomber was named "Jewish Princess" made up for any lack of extra satire of the film. Besides, I think they were making fun of the basic concept of HEAVY METAL than it per se. Because the idea itself I think is way better than the execution so far. So there is the possibility that with David Fincher's influence that it can be even better than the original.
