Talk about morbid and creepifying! I just went to see Andromeda (the series) again today. And, is it my imagination, or does Andromeda's character Harper look and act eerily like our beloved BDH Wash?? They even have the same mannerisms and all (light sarcasm with overtones of humor). It really floored me! Obviously, I hadn't seen Andromeda since Firefly, but wow.

Way back when Firefly first flew, people (including myself) referred to Wash as "Harper on sedatives."

Maybe if the show had continued, Joss coulda' gotten Gordon Michael Woolvett down there to play either a young Wash or Wash-relative.

They're both the comic relief. But there is one major difference, Wash shares his bed with a very good looking woman.

Sorry, didn't know it was common knowledge. Just freaked me out a bit, is all. "Harper on sedatives" is a perfect description of Wash, btw. :)

For another odd coincidence, Adam Baldwin plays a minor part in Independece Day.

Ok, now this is getting real spooky. :) In one of the early episodes ("D Minus Zero") I just heard Wa.. Harper say: "Ooooo, shiny!" My hand to God! May he strike me down as I'm standing here! Seriously, this is seriously weirding me out!

I remember hearing that line from Harper as well - in an odder twist, I can't remember Wash ever saying "Shiny!" Is that possible?

"Crazy Ivan" is also mentioned in Andromeda - !!

Nah, he says it many times. :) Two instances that leap to mind:

Pilot:

WASH (O.S.)
We look shiny, Captain. They are not, repeat, not coming about.

Shindig:

ZOE
(...) we're gonna stay a while on Persephone

WASH
Shiny!

And many more places, I'm sure.

Ok, I just woke up from a medication induced nap, but how's Adam's small part in Independence Day related to Wash = Harper issue ?

Help me out here.

Also, I always considered 'Harper' and Seth Green to be seperated at birth. If only for personality, mainly.

I was just throwing that out there, it has nothing to do with this thread. I wanted to say something but I have no idea who this Harper guy is, so I said this.

I think he only reactivated her. I think all Andromeda class ships have an avatar. Didn't they have an episode when they found another ship with a counter part to Rommey?

But the point was part of Harper's character is that he's a lonely heart. Wash not so much, jealous sure thing, but lonely and pining for a lover no way.

"Ship-Made-Flesh" Avatars weren't in use when Andromeda fell into the black hole (either they weren't developed yet or they'd been discontinued before being brought back). Those kinds of androids have only been sighted on ships from after the beginning of the Nietzschean Rebellion (the Balance of Judgement was a newer model ship, the ships Dylan found in the Tartarus system were trapped there after Andromeda was MIA, and the Pax Magellanic was in service for years after Rommie "disappeared").

Harper built Rommie's body, based on a set of schematics he found in "To Loose the Fateful Lightning" --the schematics were not aboard the Andromeda, which they would have been if there'd been a previous SMF android.

He probably used one of the Rommiebots (or "Marias") as a skeleton, and it's implied that Harper used Beka's DNA to create Rommie's flesh --he swiped a hair sample shortly before Rommie was activated.

And thanks for sayin', RiverFlan. :) Now I have to go watch Independence Day again for that reason alone. Hmm, 'Independence', has a familiar ring to it. :)

Well, that's something. I can't even remember all that. :) And I watched these episodes only two days before!

And in one of the next episodes we encounter a main episode character called "Kaylee". :) I'm beginning to think Joss really saw all this.
