As a fan of quirky sci-fi shows canceled before their time, I find myself curious...

My local Best Buy had 50% all TV DVDs, so I picked it up (along with Dark Angel) out of curiosity. Watched one episode so far, and.... not impressed. Michale Pare is okay, but the rest of the actors are sooo bad. And the irst episode makes no effort to establish the characters or universe. It just starts with a mediocre episode. Though some of the parrellels to Firefly in the first episode are uncanny.

And the production values are less-than impressive. The Tulip ends up looking more like a building than a ship.

OTOH, Percy is comparable to Kaylee in cuteness.

Ok... I give you that the production quality is bad and the acting wooden, but if you can look past that, the premise is good and I like the ship. Had they had a better director and writers and a bit more money, this may have been a quirky little show.

I always try to look past the superficial stuff and find the gem within'. Sound kinda familiar?? hmmm?? Firefly ring a bell? A lot of people didn't initially like Firefly at the beginning...

I've watched the whole first season, and that took some doing as they were out of order, Not bad. Very reminicent of Space 1999, early Dr. Who and Red Dwarf.

Give it a chance. And while you're at it check out Spacehunter 2300 (Season two, two years later) and Space Above and Beyond.

It's not on Par with Firefly, but not as bad as BloodRayne *spits to the side*

Too bad good roles avoid Micheal Pare like the plague.

Divinity Cluster is the 'first' episode, though it's # 4 on disk one (yes, I got it on sale for $10, try not to faint).
It's good cheese so far, definitely worth the price!

I’m not sure I ever saw it. I remember Michael Pare from the Philadelphia Experiment, but that was many a-year ago, back before Madonna became a rich stuck-up British Buddhist.

I never saw Starhunter, but I always liked Michael Pare.........
First saw him as a kid on Greatest American Hero. He was part of the group of high school kids that befriended William Katt, and he also played in a rock band...L.A. Freeway.
Then saw Pare in his best role ever, in Eddie and the Cruisers...just a great movies..Pare's natural voice was a perfect match for John Cafferty's vocals.
Then came Philadelphia Experiment. I love this movie, with B-movie goddess Nancy Allen....great effects, a great story, and better acting from Pare than normal.
Finally, Streets of Fire...a strange movie highlighted by Diane Lane's performance as a rock singer icon. Not Pare's best work, but some good lines from Rick Moranis.
I know Pare made a sequel to Eddie, but it kind of stunk. After that, never saw him in anything again.

I knew...I just knew who posted this thread.

I loved Streets of Fire, and have seen The Philadelphia Experiment so many times when I was a kid that I could just puke.

Never saw Starhunter though. Never heard of it before today.

the 1984 movie Streets of Fire had a really great cast, including Michael Pare, Diane Lane, Amy Madigan, Rick Moranis, Bill Paxton, Willem Dafoe and others i can't remember - that movie was probably the best thing Pare did (IMO) - and as much as i have tried to like other things he has done, i keep coming up with the same word - not good (ok, two words...)

Starhunter was on the right track - the plot was pretty good and production value was decent, but, unlike our favorite gang of lovable misfits in space, the chemistry just didn't work for me.

still really like Streets of Fire, though....

I saw the same deal on season 1 a while ago and took a chance - At $10, season 1 was barely worth it (that's 2 burritos after all). Season 2 was just more badness - pretty painful. I know because I watched every ep thinking it had to get better.
There are some interesting Firefly things: bounty hunters, the Tullip is a "Trans-U" (Joss' joke or nod?), and perky Percy being all Kaylee-like. As cute as some consider her I just thought the actress was completely disinterested in her role and the show in general. Sorry, as much as I wanted to like the show the best thing about it is the Peter Gabriel theme music.

I do agree with you, but they certainly didn't help BloodRayne *spits disgustedly to the side* Another Pare film but I really don't recommend going anywhere near it. I don't care how much a fan of vampire films you are or how good the game may have been.

Uwe Boll was the director... need I say more?

I hoped Starhunter would get better too. The ending was weak. It had potential but fell way short. The pre-Battlestar Galactica 2003 effect was cool though... but I won't give away the ending. Also a weak, weak, weak tie to Season 2. Doesn't mean I won't watch all the episodes though. I'm a sucker for space TV & movies, in fact I'm considering watching Andromeda... ya, I'm that bad off.

Hey now. Watch the first season and a half of Andromeda. It was only around "Ourobourous" in S2 that things fell apart (when Rev left and Trance turned into teen-Xena).

Hell, the pilot episode gave us Refractions of Dawn, who showed more personality in her three minutes of screentime than Sorbo managed for the last four seasons combined.

HaHaHa!!

Oh, I'll watch it... all the way through even. The way I see it, all Space type TV and movies have some redeeming quality. Some you just have to look harder for... and use some imagination... ok, maybe a LOT of imagination.

I just found the Magoog(sp?) to look too much like the goblins from Babes in Toyland.

There were flames and everything?

From what I caught on TV, Andromedas male version of Kaylee or Percy, had Magoog eggs in him. It seemed like it had a good premise.

From what you guys say though, like Starhunter, it failed to deliver on said premise. Oh well.

Call me strange but I watch these, less than stellar, shows with good premises with the mind set of how good it could have been had it been done properly. It helps wash down the bad acting and such.

Speaking of series that failed to deliver, I just picked up Galactica 1980. I figured, after watching Starhunter and being an old school Galactica fan, how bad could it be?

Haven't seen starhunter, though there was a movie long ago by that name, as I recall, with a rather young molly ringwald among others.

Pare did a tv series back when called "houston knights". Not sci fi, mind you, but it was a good role, allowed him to show some skill, and he did.

As for andromeda, any show with Lexa Doig in it is worth watching :) No matter how boring, or even stupid. She's just, well, hot

I'll keep an eye out for it though. Sounds interesting. be good for the long cold nights after footballs over.

I dunno, Chris, I have Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and it is horribly cheesy, worse than BSG TOS. Man, and I LOVED that show when I was a kid... *sigh*

Just used up some Christmas money at Costco and such and completed my Babylon 5 DVD collection ($20 per season was too good to pass up). Never seen an episode so I hope it lives up to it's hype.

I'm still whimbling on whether to fork out my remaining dough on Andromeda, based on your, Cybersnark and Moose's recomendations, or the Star Trek movie box set.

I'm currently working my way through Starhunter 2300 and y'know... it's not so horrible. Ya I like Micheal Pare, but was it just me or did he spend the whole show either crying or shouting? I know he's capable of more than 2 emotions...

Badkarmaoo, if you are a true hardcore space sci-fi nut, definitely worth a look but remember, I never said it was good Prep yourself by watching something bad before hand, like Andromeda season 3-5 apparently..

Let me know if it's worth it. I've had that in my hand more than once. Not being a huge Trek fan, I'm looking to get pretty much an abreviation.

I just can't justify the hugely ignorant price of $90-$150 per season for a show whose writing pales in comparison to Firefly which was $29.99 for a season.

Aww, Starhunter. I found two DVDs in my Big Lots and thought I'd give it a try. It does have some parallels with Firefly.

The production is awful, but the ideas were brilliant. If the ideas had been given better actors and better production, it could have been something amazing.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen the end of the first season because they didn't have the DVDs in my area and I never bothered ordering or looking for it online. I did find an ancient online site on it awhile ago and learned about the second season.

Also, I must be the only one who thinks that Michael Pare is an awful actor. I've only seen him on Starhunter, but I thought he was the worst series regular on the show. I always cringed when he showed up.

I did, awhile ago, think of a fanfiction with a Firefly/Starhunter crossover. I mean, it actually seems possible with the two story lines.

Loved it! The story, and characters worked.
The hyperspace thing I was not so hot on.
The bounty hunting and the back story were very good and had great potential.

Havnt seen the first series so I can't comment on it.

Like most everyone else, I bought Starhunter on sale. I wasn't too keen on the series at first, but kept watching. After about 4 episodes I was hooked.

Sure the budget was practically non-existent, the writing hardly impressive and the acting far from stellar. Nonetheless, there was an interesting story there.

I can forgive Michael Pare - I'm not a fan of his, but I'll take him any day over Clive Robertson. I loved Claudette Roche and was saddened not to see her in Season 2. I adored Tanya Allen! Though I must agree, whether she didn't want to be there or it's how they wanted her to play the role, she completely phoned it in for Season 2.

After finally getting into the storyline, Season 1 ended. I did pick up Season 2. Talk about dissappointment! Season 1 was horrible, but there aren't even words for Season 2!

First, I could never get used to Clive Robertson. I was definately glad to see more of Stephen Marcus and Paul Fox was a welcome addition to the cast. However, Season 2 hardly even touched on the storyline from Season 1. In the end you are wondering what the point of Season 2 was and you still want answers to all the questions Season 1 left you with.

I still want to know more about the Divinity Cluster and what's up with The Orchard? What role do they play in the grand scheme?

I would still recommend Season 1 - but think about Netflix-ing it first. You can find Starhunter & Starhunter 2300 on Netflix in the US.
