What if I told you that Edmonton was about to become the filming location for a television series with a North American audience?

What if I told you that Lionsgate Entertainment was involved? That Lionsgate's plans aren't to merely film a pilot here, but to actually move an existing series to E-town?

[. . .]

Edmonton's geek community -- my peeps -- will be thrilled at the coming possibilities. Being considered for the Edmonton location are one of two possible series: 1) the self-explanatory Masters of Horror; or 2) the modern-day detective fantasy, the Dresden Files.

Once the decision is made, later this month, production people will be hired, including location managers. Shooting will begin this fall.

What does this mean for those of us watching from home? Dunno, quality-wise. Can Edmonton pass for Toronto passing for Chicago?

The point though is that this looks like Dresden is coming back for another season (there's been no official word yet), though it's still a ways off (the turnaround between "shooting" and "airing" is considerable in most genre shows).

Although they haven't given official word that it's been cancelled, when the lead actor takes a part in another TV series it doesn't look to good for the show.

From Scifi Wire:

Collins, Blackthorne Change Casts

Jessica Collins is joining the ever-expanding cast of NBC's Heroes, while Paul Blackthorne (SCI FI Channel's The Dresden Files) is joining the cast of ABC's Big Shots, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Collins (late of ABC's The Nine) will have a recurring role on Heroes, playing Sophie, a mysterious woman with powers who works at the organization that is tracking all heroes.

Blackthorne will play a sophisticated tycoon in Big Shots, which revolves around four high-powered CEOs or CEOs-to-be (Michael Vartan, Dylan McDermott, Christopher Titus, Joshua Malina) who socialize at the same exclusive golf club.

Blackthorne has the title role in SCI FI's Dresden Files; no formal announcement has come about that show's fate.

I guess Sci-Fi won't be seeing any of my money when the S1 DVDs are released. Just means I'll have more cash for the dozen or so other DVD purchases I'm in line for over the next few months.

I've only seen little snippets of the series, I haven't gotten down to watching the whole thing yet, though I do love the books. It does look quite good from what little I've seen. I'm still a little bit bitter about James turning down the role because I live in Toronto. So far as it getting moved to Edmonton, I am a little dissapointed, I've had bad luck with all little geeky obsessions lately (for example being in Paris when they were filming the new American Pie here, though I suppose I can't complain too much, I was in Paris after-all). I do really hope it doesn't get cancelled though

EDIT: Okay, I just finished reading the whole thread not just the first post... I am extremely pissed. Will the day ever come when a good show lasts more than a season on F*X?

Lets go to the Mall... Today!!!

Ah well. That's television. I wish we'd been given another season, because I think we were starting to really find our feet. But alas, tis not to be.

So thanks one last time to the cast, the crew, my fellow writers, and all our talented directors. We gave it our best.

Also thanks to everyone who watched. Thanks for your faith and thanks for those 12 hours of your lives. We're glad you liked the show. We wish we could have given you more.

And thanks of course to Jim. Thanks for trusting Hans, David and me to bring your amazing character to life. Sorry we couldn't make it last a little longer, but we know the books will continue to rock for years to come.

All my best to everyone.

Robert Wolfe

Cheers to him for taking it in stride (though, like some other show-runners we know, he's had experience having the rug yanked out from under him by networks). Here's hoping his next project is more widely appreciated.
