Good scenes put back in, just like Daredevil (same writer-director), that should never have been taken out, but whereas Daredevil was a serious-as-a-heart-attack movie, Ghost Rider has moments of Batman And Robin-like humour, which threw me off.

A good RENTABLE-only waste of time **1/2*

Two-second review Chrisisall

This came and went quick didn't it? Too bad too because Ghost Rider was a fave of mine growing up. He was the Marvel equivelant of Batman, and I love tortured hero's (which is why I love Firefly, for one of the many reasons)

So when I heard Nicholas Cage was going to be the lead I could already see it wasn't going to be great. The man's good in romatic comedies and cop movies but a hero (anti or other) he aint, and the only reason he did it was because he didn't look good in the Superman suit (I heard those who saw him in it laughed) He just wanted to get on the superhero bandwagon and chose this one because he wouldn't have to be in a suit, and most of the time he'd be cgi'd.

When I said Rider was the equivelant of Batman I meant it. Those who read the books knew his troubled story, hell every book I read I was moved by it. From what I saw in the commercials they were going for the camp version. Maybe if they got somebody else for the lead, maybe if they made a script that actually worked, maybe if they gave it a few more years until someone decent enough could come along with something reasonable.

I'm not sorry I missed it in the theatres, and I won't be renting it. And I'm very sorry they took one of my favorite characters and once again butchered it. Marvel movies have been crappers lately. Maybe they need to back off and try animation. They do good with animation.

Wow. What an amazingly scathing review of a movie you never laid eyes on. Making your decision of how good a movie is based on the trailers is a bad idea every time.

Look at Bridge to Terabithia. If you've never read the books, from the trailer you'd get the feeling you're going to see a "heart-warming" "Narnia" "Fantasy" movie. It wasn't. At all, any of the above. But it was a good movie, none-the-less.

I happened to be one of those folks, while being an avid comic book reader as a child, that never read the Ghost Rider comics. I also happened to like the movie. I'm not a huge Nicolas Cage fan, but I enjoyed the job he did.

I've said time and time again, if you have an opinion, you're more than welcome to voice it. But you may want to try watching a movie before you tear it apart.

But you're probably right that you won't like it. See my comments about watching your heroes in the FF thread. If you build the characters up so high, all the actors can do is fail...in your eyes.

Just my rambling 2 cents again.

Steg, didn't you feel it should have been darker? I felt some of the humour was a little mis-placed. I think Fonda should have been the only guy doing the funny, it would have seemed so much more eerie that way, IMO.
BTW, Cage was fine. I think the director maybe felt he already did the tortured hero thing to death in Daredevil, and that's why it wasn't a bigger part of GR...ya think?

Big fan of The Uncanny X-Men back in the day, but never read any Ghost Rider. I knew of it, but... y'know.

Anyway, saw the movie last night, had read bad reviews, so had no expectations other than to kill a few hours.
My wife and I both enjoyed it. Could have been just a bit darker, but not knowing the characters, all seemed to fit with that world.

One of the many things I learned from Marvel was that there are /many/ different universes (See eXcalibur 'Cross time caper' series). Accept each one for what it is, and enjoy the story.

Then again, I'm easily entertained.

Eh. I re-read my post, and I guess I was a lttle too condemning. I was in a bad mood yesterday anyways, so that didn't help. Sorry if I offended. But I will say in all earnestness that one should not condemn anything that they have not experienced when it comes to entertainment.

What if you were a Starhunter fan, and judged Firefly based soley on the trailers, thinking that it was a cheap knockoff of a show you enjoy? (I shudder at the thought)

That's all I was trying to say. Again, sorry if I was beating up on ya.

You're probably right, Chrisisall. But all-in-all, I wasn't upset that I paid for tickets & popcorn to see the movie. It probably could have been a bit darker, but I'm not upset that it wasn't.

I seem to remember an interview with MSJ before the movie was released in which he promised there would no 'director's cut' this time around. Of course I suppose since this one is labelled 'extended cut' that could mean it was crafted by the studio, but still...

OK I liked Ghost Rider, but I pretty much like anything with explosions, humor, and evil...
Yes I liked Fantastic Four:)

Very unimpressed. Extended? I must be lucky 'cause it sure looked like exactly the same movie I saw in the theater.

Everyone notices my moniker. Thanks to the flick I might change it to "Unimpressed by movie of similar name".

The extras, though short, had a chronological history of the character that was for me the one impressive thing about the two disc set. I'd buy it just for that.

Well. And for Eva Mendez and the beautiful city of Melbourne.

HUGS NV- well just 'cause Nick Cage is no where near as studly, handsome, funny, and smart as you is no reason to pick on the movie:)

Fantastic 4: Saw it. More of a pre-teen flick (never got into any gray areas really. The good guys were GOOD, the bad guy was BAD.) But I still enjoyed it. Haven't bought it.

Daredevil: Despite it's bad reviews, I enjoyed it. The good guy had a bit of a dark side (that I would have liked to see get explored more, but then it wouldn't have been an action flick). Haven't bought it.

Elektra: Forgot I'd watched it until my daughter reviewed the plot...

X-Men: Love! Bought all.

If you do, get the extended version that just came out!
