Lots of good added scenes, but only one that I felt was REALLY good- when they awoke on the space station afer the storm passed.

Wasn't too impressed with the movie so it's unlikely I'll be picking up the extended version. Is that the only significant change?

Everything I have seen of the sequel leads me to believe it will be a more entertaining film. After the first my expectations weren't very high but I will be heading to the theater next week to see it.

I was always willing to give FANTASTIC FOUR a pass because for starters, it's an exposition movie. I think with the exception of the first SUPERMAN, BATMAN and X-MEN movies, the first in a line of superhero movies are weak to various degrees, because you spend the movie setting everything up. Here's the guy, here's the accident that gave him or her their powers, here's the bad guy, here's the fight, the end. But by the time the second film rolls around, they've gotten the exposition out of the way and can actually get to the heart of the character and what made the comic so spectacular.

Plus, the things about the FANTASTIC FOUR is that they're so iconic that there have been variations of the "family of superheroes" done before that people are familiar with them already. One complaint I hard was that FANTASTIC FOUR was too much like THE INCREDIBLES. That really pissed me off because the Fantastic Four had been around for over 40 years by the time THE INCREDIBLES hit theaters. If anything, it's the other way around.

It'll be the same problem that the film adapt of WATCHMEN is going to face, since the catastrophe in the comic had been done in both fiction ("Five Years Gone" on HEROES) and in real life (9/11). People will think they're ripping off others, when in fact they were the first opens to do that (although to be fair it was done already in an episode of the classic OUTER LIMITS)

Fantastic Four was just...... If I had paid for it I would have demanded my money back. But I didn't, so I had to put up with an hour of bad acting, screwed up exposition, and one of the lousiest happy endings I've had to suffer through. I'll wait till I can borrow FF2.

Sorry Chris, but it did nothing for me, and was rather insulting to my intellegence.

I can't get into that mindset. I can't like a story just because I'm supposed to. A great story told badly is bad. If they weren't able to tell the story of the Fantastic 4's beginning in a good manner then they just plain failed to tell a good story.

Look at it this way: there have been a million versions of Romeo and Juliet told. Some of those were successes and others were failures even though they had the same brilliant source material. Fantastic 4 had good source material but managed to completely fail at telling it well. They managed to fail so badly that I don't want to even see the second movie.

I didn't say I liked it. I said it was an exposition movie that was mildly entertaining at best. It was more run of the mill than excruciatingly awful.

That being said, the sequel could theoretically be better since because the first one was almost rock bottom, then there's no where to go but up.

The Fantastic 4 movie was watchable but weak at best, but it had a good ending, and I remember being impressed with the character called Sue Storm. She was better than the comics of age past which always featured her as a sniveling weakling. There's another Fantastic 4 movie out? I don't watch television and am busy with work most of the time...there's another FF4 movie out?? What is the plot? I hope to god they don't try to do the Silver Surfer if that's the case. If it is, well, welcome to the world of CGI.

I liked it. It was fun, and I really don't expect a Fantastic Four movie to be high concept drama anyway (not like some other heroes who are all about major archetypes/themes/motifs, like Batman, Superman, or Spiderman). FF has always struck me as the superhero equivalent to a sitcom. You've got the married couple, the brother-in-law, and the wacky/crotchety neighbour who's always hanging around.

It's just wacky fun; go with it.

Wow, I didn't realize so many people didn't like the film. I enjoyed it. Maybe it wasn't all that complex, but the chracters were a lot of fun. And for Christ-sake, it was better than Daredevil (or Elektra, for that matter). The only good thing about that movie was Bullseye. And if you want to really go back, think about the original Punisher or Captain America. Trust me, things could be worse.

I liked the original Fantastic Four. It was very entertaining to me. But, I realize that my tastes differ quite drastically to others, and some assume I have very low standards when it comes to the movies I watch.

So, in that thought, I will explain why I like what I like. Having grown up in rural America through the 70's and 80's, the TV was NOT my baby-sitter. I spent alot of time outside but never really had very many friends. So invariably I utilized that what I saw on TV to keep me entertained when I was out and about. For years I ran around thinking myself one of the "Tomorrow People", or flung into the future with Buck, hanging out with Twiky saving the universe. Good Times.

Well, even though I've grown up, I still to this day replay the entertainment previously viewed through my mind when I'm alone with my thoughts. Yes, I'm a daydreamer - tried and convicted. I don't care though, my wife and daughter loves me for who I am, and my employer's like me cause I get my jobs done.

Quality of a movie, to me, is rarely in the acting. Very seldom do I find it in the set design or lighting depts. The quality I find is purely in the story. And if later, I can plunge myself into that story - immerse so much that I can think myself there, hanging with Mal in a bar, or flying with Peter Patrelli on the screen in my head - at that point, I believe I have found quality.

So to you armchair-directors out there I say, "If you have your opinions, voice them! It is your right as much as mine.

But in the future, try not to think too harshly of the FOX executives for the decisions they make. They have thier opinions too, and although it defies all logic, there is probably a reason for their opinions. They just have the power to do something about it that effects us all."

Swap "rural America through the 70's and 80's" with "small-town Canada through the 80s and 90s," and this goes for me too (well, not so much the "wife and daughter" bit, so far).

Escapism certainly isn't the only variable, but it's right up there. As long as the story's fun and well-realized enough to let me submerge myself in it, I'm fine with it.

That isn't what I meant, what I meant was the CGI or Special Effects looked like it was something out of the 1980's, like the very first CGI or Computer Animation. Looks like they hired a not so great Special Effects company to do them.

Well, there are only so many ways you can animate silver. Looking like the T-1000 is kinda inevitable. If he's less reflective, he loses the impact, stops looking bizarre and otherworldly and becomes just a metal-skinned human.

Plus, unless I've missed something, we've only seen one trailer, with the Surfer/Torch not-even-much-of-a-fight scene. All action-centred and showy. Hopefully there'll be enough character scenes to let Norrin Radd's personality and angst shine through ('cause he is one of the few Marvel characters I genuinely give a damn for).

I say this because no actor can truely capture the essence of your favorite character, because what endears the character to you is not necessarily what endears him/her to someone else.

However, even if they flub the character, doesn't mean the movie itself won't be good/great!

I take it back, the extended version is way cool, only thing is, you should skip the scene after the Hayden Planetarium, because it's totally redundant.
Bad editing choice to put both scenes in.
Other than that- excellent, just like the extended Spidey 2!
(But please, no extended Hulk- that movie was long enough...

Instead of starting a new thread just thought I'd post a non-spoilery review of the sequel.

It's better than the original, in my opinion much better. I can't comment on how close the movie is to the comic because I'm not an avid reader of the franchise. The only thing I'm fairly sure of is that movie Galactus is a bit different from the comic version.

As for the technical aspects the story, acting, dialogue, and effects were quite good. It's safe to say Jessica Alba may have done her best acting in this film. I know, I know, the cynics will cry "that's not saying much" but she does a good job. However, there were a few scenes that she looked a bit creepy with the bright blonde hair and excessively blue eyes. Don't quite remember that in the original.

Really enjoyed the banter between Ben and Johnny. That was one of the highlights in the original and was continued in fine fashion.

I would have liked more screen time for Julian MacMahon as Victor von Doom. He does such a great job playing the bad guy, it's easy to see he enjoys throwing himself into such an archetypal villain role.

Regardless of what others have said the Silver Surfer looked pretty damn good. I will admit that he actually looked better when he was less shiny. I couldn't tell if those shots were CGI or an actor in some serious makeup. The action sequences were at least as good as any super hero film from the last few years.

The thing that impressed me most about the film was how light-hearted it was considering the overriding theme of the world being destroyed. That is one hell of a thing to pull off for both film makers and actors.

Lastly, the movie struck me as being very short time wise. Sure enough it came in at around one and a half hours. The pacing was good but at times it felt like things were squeezed together. Unlike some movies already mentioned on this thread I think this one would have benefited from an extra 15 to 20 minutes. Oh well, guess I'll wait for the extended version of this one on DVD.

I'm glad you liked it. I enjoyed it myself. My daughter seemed to like it better than she did PotC3, but she doesn't like sitting through long movies anyways.
