At least the producers get to finish on their own terms and get to end it properly.

Yep! It's what all good shows deserve, really.
I also heard rumors of a D2DVD movie to wrap it all up after season 4...?

Well, this is definitely news to me! WTF, man!? BSG was supposed to have 5 seasons! Why was it such a fight just to get the fourth one in the works, anyway? Its the best damn show that the sci-fi channel has EVER had!

... Okay... I think I'm calm now... Well, I suppose we should be thankful that they are going to get to finish the series at least, even if it wasn't with all the intended episodes...

To the god you say is kind.
I know what's right, and it is time,
It's time to fight, and free our minds!

Our spirits were forged in snow and ice,
To bend like steel forged over fire.
We were not made to bend like reed,
Or to turn the other cheek!"

I watched the first 2 1/2 seasons religously. Then after the Algae Planet it seem to get all inner-directed and wrapped up in shipboard stuff. The Cylons and the conflict seem to lose its momentum. I put off watching a few episodes after the Algae Planet resolution and never picked it up again.

Does it pick up speed again? Should I go back and watch the missed episodes?

I'm STILL upset about it, but at least we got to have 4 seasons. The mini-series and season 1 rocked. Season 2 was just amazing, and the start of season 3 was great, but then the show slowed down, and all of a sudden after a few more episodes I was convinced that the writers all got bored, or were on drugs or something. It DID get better though. I'm looking forward to the last season. I wonder how they are going to wrap this all up?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Well, it's not exactly "old news", but it has been discussed here before, last week in fact.

The news is somewhat sad, but honestly between the mini series and four seasons, that is a good run for a sci fi show. It is far more than many get.

I like BSG. I wouldn't call myself a big fan, certainly not to the extent I am a browncoat, but I enjoy the show. It will be sad to see it go as there is so little good sci fi on tv now, but as Hell's Kitten pointed out there is rumors of a D2DVD movie. There is also "Razor" the made for tv movie of the adventures of the Pegasus from the time of the Cylon attack on the Colonies up to them meeting Galactica. There was also talk of a spin off called "Caprica". Not sure where that stands since there seems to have been little news since the creators announced it on SciFi.com a while back.

Because, according to some people who work on the show, it is very expensive and not enough people were watching.
Same old song and dance.

Yeah, I love it all. It's sort of bittersweet ending after season 4. I know it will allow the writers to really follow the intended story arc and avoid "jumping the shark," but it's still sad that it won't be on anymore.

Has anyone heard, is August still the tentative date set for the Season 3 DVD release? I haven't heard anything in about two months and you'd think they'd announce it soon if it was still August.

I've heard contradicting stories for the past couple of months but this definitely seems final, the story was certainly beginning to come to its conclusion.

With regards to season 3 I was listening to one of the Ron Moore podcasts and he said that the beginning of season 3 on New Caprica forced them to do more "bottle episodes" later on in the series so that they fell within budget. This resulted in the series becoming more internalised.

I think that series 4 will be incredible probably very story arc centric, especially given the events of the series 3 finale. Unfortunetly living in the UK means that if I dont want to find out what happens in series 4 I will have to cut myself off from any battlestar related sites from the second the new series starts in the US.

I don't hate the show, I really like the Universal folk that help bring us Serenity's Big Damn Movie but as much as I want to like Universal's BSG, I just can't enjoy the show anymore.

The Bob Dylan season finale had to be one of the dumbest cliffhangers/season-ending of all time. BSG lost its greatness a long time ago, and it is nothing more than a dull soap
it has squandered most of its potential

They are going to have to work really hard to explain where they got a Bob Dylan/ Jimi Hendrix song. That whole thing makes no real sense other than being there just to provide a "twist".

I think its good they are wrapping it up. When a show knows it is wrapping up, they can really direct things to a conclusion and get the opportunity to give fans a satisfying ending (not that all shows that know they are ending do that, but at least they get the opportunity). Shows in limbo that end never give you a satisfying ending.

Possibility 1: it's signal bleed from Earth.

Possibility 2, borne out by. . . somebody's blog I read months ago: coincidence. The Colonies had a thriving arts scene, it's not out of the realm of possibility that some Colonial musician recorded a song that happens to mimic one from Earth.

FWIW, the actual song played was recorded specifically for the episode, so it's not an actual radio edit (it'll be on the S3 soundtrack CD).

I thought possibility two was already known as the definitive answer. Wasn't that what was said on Bear's blog?

Also regarding the song, I didn't recognize it (can you believe I've never heard that song?) and actually felt it almost ruined the finale. It made the end feel very cheesy (sounded too poppy).

I'd never heard it either, but I've been exposed to enough "in-universe" sci-fi/fantasy music to just go with it (my playlist has tracks from Lynn-Minmei [both English and Japanese], Janice Em, Lancer/Yellow Dancer, Wreck-55, Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes, Sy Snootle, Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. . .).

(Wreck-55 from W.I.T.C.H. is kinda my favourite. They got VAs who can actually sing.)

("The Demon in Me")

(The actual song kicks in around 1:00 --Matt is possessed by a demon named Shagon, and Shagon has to back off before Matt can play.)

("The Will to Love")

I'll need to watch the finale again soon to see how I feel about it now. During my first viewing of it, I actually thought they'd taken some crap pop song from the radio (irl) and decided to play it at the end. Maybe now that I know in what spirit it was included I can not be bothered by it so much.
