Supposed to be announced today the writers and producers are deciding to end the show after this season. Here's the link.

Well, BRAVO! Let's hear it for a show that tells a story, and doesn't just drag it out endlessly until canceled! My interest in it has been renewed!

Glad to hear it's coming from the writers themselves. Though RDM always said Galactica had a five-year arc and would end then. Coming from the writers, this suggests that they will be tying up the story satisfactorilly, and not compressing stuff to get it in under the wire.

I just wish everyone involved would make up their frackin' minds. First it'll be cancelled after the fourth season, then it'll be renewed, now they're ending it voluntarily.

I second that. I kinda prefer this approach of a set ending, as opposed to dragging it out as long as possible. I think LOST maybe set the precedent for it, but it's nice to know that along with this, this might become the norm rather than the exception.

I only wish this movement of self containment happened sooner. If it happened in the 90's, then shows like THE X-FILES and even BUFFY would be considered perfect shows, instead of shows that went on longer than they should have.

And now a list of (initially good) shows that dragged on with no real end in sight until they were put out of our misery...

Lois And Clark
Lost In Space
Airwolf
Dallas
The Incredible Hulk

I could go on...

But I won't Chrisisall

BSG is such an awesome show that I will hate to see it come to an end, but at the same time it's a show that I will appreciate knowing what happens at the end of the story. Definitely I would much rather the producers/writer make this decision than drag it out for far too long, to the point where you say "Ok, there's nothing really fresh idea-wise coming out of here".

Will they find Earth? And more importantly, will it be a good thing if they do? I can't wait!

Of course Battlestar Galactica is going to be canceled.

They need the timeslot to show Galactica:2010....

I'm going to miss the 6's. They have good fashion taste and they are hardcore.

I too am pretty happy and excited about this but I still have some questions. Are they still going to go forward with the spin off "Caprica" or not? How many two or three-parters do we get? Is the movie part of the season (aka, the first two hours) or is it in addition to so we still get 22 hours of the Galactica after our little Pegasus flash back?

Also...does anyone seriously think that when they get their it will be present day? I'm betting it'll be the time of ancient Greece or they will just be no one at all. I'm also thinking that they'll probably get their in the middle of the season now and their will be a fight over it the rest of the season. I seriously doubt we'll see a Voyager like ending with the Galactica flying serenly into orbit as the credits roll.

"Storms getting worse."
"We'll pass through it soon enough."
