Sorry for that, I was trying for some Stan Lee-esque adjectival alliteration.

This is just a reminder that Heroes will be continuing in comic form all summer. Go here: http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/ and read the new adventures and catch up with what you missed.

It looks like the spotlight is finally falling on out untalkative Haitian friend/foe/whatever. This issue pretty much confirms that his powers include power dampening, which raises the question: why didn't it work on Nathan when Bennet & the Haitian cornered him in Vegas?

Of course, these comics aren't much, so we might as well create some of our own fun. Maybe we'll be able to keep the thread bumped all summer. If it works for the Treehouse, Hidey Tower, and Loafer's Nook, it'll work for us.

Heroes, sound off! What powers would you want? They could be new, or something someone's already demonstrated. Some possibilities:

Speed: Subjectively, time slows down, like when Hiro stole the fake sword. This would likely include a measure of super-durability as well --Flash may not be strong, but a punch thrown at 4,000 mph would shatter the hand that threw it as surely as the jaw it hit.

Wall-crawling: As demonstrated by Nightcrawler and movie-verse Toad in the X-Men movies, and Spiderman, of course (though he's not a real mutant, technically). Add in enhanced agility and flexibility, for some wall-leaping action scenes.

Technical aptitude: A lesser-known power, most clearly typified by Gear on Static Shock, or lesser-known DC hero Mr. Terrific, or the new Toyman (who isn't a villain, but a semi-heroic "contractor" --he's the one who produces Batman's custom-ordered equipment). It's also been demonstrated by the Goblins in the Spiderman movies. It's basically a variation of Sylar's power, giving the mutant the ability to instinctively grasp technology, which can (in this case) be used to build new machines and equipment, often from scrap parts and without any formal training. This is how the Goblins got their death-glider, pumpkin bombs, and other toys. Heroes needs more gadget-users (possibly working with whatever's left of Bennet's former Agency --providing hi-tech weapons and equipment).

There's a whole list of possibilities on Suresh's site: http://theories.activatingevolution.org/swiki/wiki/index.php/List_of_A
nomalistic_Abilities

I kinda like Umbrakinesis and Obtenebrative Teleportation:
Quote:

Umbrakinesis is the ability to control all forms of darkness. Whether or not this is just an offshoot of Optikenesis is unknown. Most known Umbrakinetics can create darkness out of nowhere, blend in with shadows, teleport through shadows, and create weapons and constructs from darkness.

Retrieved from " http://theories.activatingevolution.org/swiki/wiki/index.php/Umbrakine
sis
"

#

The ability to transport one's entire form and those of others through locations of equal or lesser scale upon the Luminesence Intensity Scale (LIS) less than or equal to -25 candela (or candle-power). Put simply, the ability to travel between shadowed areas. Often thought to truly be normal teleporting abilities held back by a derangement of the psyche. Could also fall under the power of Umbrakinesis. It is theorized Sylar may possess this ability.

tive_Teleportation

This looks like one of Raven's powers from Teen Titans.

"What's the matter? Afraid of the Dark?"

Me, I haven't decided. I'm goth enough to love the idea of "shadow-bending," but I also speak fluent technobabble. . .

*wonders at the feasability of creating an auric waveform scanner/duplicator, capable of doing what Peter Petrelli does, or maybe a neural outwave jammer to mimic the Haitian's jamming abilities. . .*

I like the power Mikhail(Colossus' brother) had...the ability to absorb and redirect all forms of energy. Sure would have come in handy dealing with Ted's power.

I'm sure we'll have plenty more to discuss once the DVDs are out.

Well, my theory is that since he was working with Nathan's mom, he just let him escape. It would keep Bennett (can't get used to calling him Noah) from finding out too much information.

Edit: I'd also want someone with control over plantlife on the show. I know it's been done, (along with most everything else on Heroes) but that would be a pretty interesting ability to have.

I've always wanted to be an empath. Not just able to pick up people's feelings, but to project, to dampen anger, to heighten joy, to take the edge off grief. I would imagine my skills would be in high demand.

REGINAROADIE

Here's an update on HEROES' second season.

Dania Ramirez (Callisto in "X-Men: The Last Stand") has been added as a regular on the NBC's hit series "Heroes." Ramirez will play Maya, a new hero whose powers are being kept secret for now.

She's the sole new regular hero joining the cast next year, though new recurring roles will include a young African-American mother, an Irish mobster and a hunky boyfriend for Claire.

I like that they have a 'revolving door" policy for it's cast, and that for the second season, it'll only be one new character, as opposed to half the cast being replaced.

The only bit of news that slightly bums me is the "hunky boyfriend" for Claire. I never really bought that "Zac was gay" thing the fans got up in arms about. The show never explicitly said that Zac was gay, so I'm confused over the controversy. And I was slightly hoping for a "geek gets the girl" scenario, which I know won't happen now that he's John Connor and hooking up with River in THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.

At the very least, I was hoping that maybe, just maybe, that maybe Claire would hook up with Hiro. There's not that much of an age difference (Hiro was a toddler when Claire was a baby, as seen in the flashback in "Company Man".), and it would still fulfill the "geek gets the girl" scenario we'd all want to see with Claire.

Yeah, I was hoping for Zac/Claire sparkage too.

(And the controversy was all behind-the-scenes, nothing really explicit in the show.)

Sort of a Daniel Panabaker hippy vegetarian type character? That would be cool. Although, to be honest, I’d really want her to get smacked upside the head with a side of beef sometime during the season, but apart from that, it sounds cool.

By my calculations (which are admittedly back of the envelope and in my head) that represents over 1500 grams of TNT. A hand grenade is about 150 grams of TNT.

I think some of the writers intended for Zack to be gay, but Dekker wasn’t very thrilled with that, so they wrote him out of the season or Dekker quite, or something.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

That makes three of us. Not sure why he just vanished off the show. It seemed like the writers were taking them somewhere, then he is just off the show.

Bumping for the new issue: http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/novels_display.shtml?novel=36

More on the Haitian's developing powers. I genuinely feel sorry for him, having his whole life crash apart like that.

It also kinda explains how he progressed from Voudou to Christianity (assuming, from his talk to Claire about "God's gifts").

Of course, I'm now hearing speculation that Uluru ( http://heroeswiki.com/Uluru) will be next season's Big Bad, which would be very nicely foreshadowed by the Haitian's comments about the old gods not listening (which in turn raises the ominous possibility: what happens when they start).

Far as I can tell, the speculation stems not just from Isaac's paintings, but from an SDCC back when Heroes was first being produced. Tim Sale was exhibiting artwork, and had a bunch of profile images of the cast, alongside this one rock-monster thing.

And we're starting a new storyline this week: http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/

Obviously, this will be Candace's origin. Part one of four, so this'll take us to late July.

Covering the origins of the Company seems to be the theme this summer. We've already covered the founding (involving Linderman and Mr. Petrelli), Eden, Mr. Bennet, the Haitian, and now Candy. That leaves Mrs. Petrelli, Mr. Nakamura, Claude (seen in Bennet's backstory), Thompson (seen last week in the Haitian's tale), and Molly.

There's also Sanjog (the dream-walker, who, if we're right about Uluru being involved in S2, could be an important player, having access to the Dreamtime where Uluru lives), and Ando hasn't had a story (how can a mere human deal with being caught up in events like this?), Matt's wife (how much does she know/suspect about where he is?), nor has Sakthi (Exactly what was it about her that sent Chandra on his quest to unravel the Genome?), or Charles (how could he communicate with Peter?).

Of course, I now notice that we have several characters who are in tune with other planes: Sanjog, post-human Hana, Molly, and maybe even Peter, if he survived (which he likely did). If Uluru is to be involved, they will be the first to know --and they each have allies in this realm whom they would notify (Sanjog => Mohinder, Hana => Micah, Molly => Parkman). Future comics could well decide to revist these characters (given that Hana is basically the comics' flagship character), to set up a possible future TV arc. . .
