I watched I think 3 seasons then things got strange, characters died or left and then.... *meh*. But in the beggining it was one of my most watched shows.

Remember that? When you had a wide variety of shows to watch, many showing on the same day, at the same time and you had to decide which one to watch and hoped you had more than one VCR to tape them? When the term Reality TV meant the evening news? Remember that people?

What the hell went wrong?

Yeah same here it did start getting strange after season 3. The idea was great though for a tv show

i watched it lots, have the first few dvds now, but yeah i have to agree, things started happening in the show that i didn't like, they moved it to another channel for me or my scheduale changed or something, and it eventually faded. it rocked in its prime though!

I used to love Sliders.

Season 1 and 2 of Sliders was excellent, but when season 3 showed up you could tell things were starting to go bad. I heard that the executives of the show thought the Sliders team was too chummy with each other, so they introduced another woman into the mix, and wanted to get rid of the Professor because they thought he was too old, and wanted to give the show a "young" feel to it. With that bit of wisdom in place by season 4 the actors were all at each others throats. As I see it the ones who ruined Sliders were the network execuitives, plus the stories started to get really bad. Another good series down the drain...

REGINAROADIE

Yeah, it was basically behind the scenes struggles that killed the show. Tracy Torme was the showrunner for the first two years, and by all accounts it was an uphill battle between him and FOX (pause for irony). By season 3, he was starting to become marginalized and replaced by David Peckinpah (who is related to Sam) who took the series toward a "rip-off whatever hit movie was out at the time" approach. That, as Torme quitting altogether damaged SLIDERS for good. And even though they returned to the "parallel worlds" original idea and went for two more seasons, it never really recovered.

Which is a true shame because I loved this show. I watched it a lot when I was a kid and it was one of the first sci-fi shows I really got into.

You know, with THE BIONIC WOMAN being remade for NBC with some of the same creative team behind the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA remake, and now a new FLASH GORDON coming out in August from The Sci-Fi Channel, I wonder if enough time has passed for SLIDERS to get remade. Because the concept is perfect. Keep Quinn, Wade, The Professor, the portal, the timer and the satire/black humor and get rid of Remy and the Kromaggs, and you have the opportunity to re-invent it in the same vein of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA or DOCTOR WHO.

And in the polarized times we live in, it could really open up to some fantastic "what if" scenarios. Like what if they land in a world where the dominant religion of the U.S. is Muslim and the terrorists responsible for 9/11 were Christians. That would REALLY stir things up. Of if the Mayan's didn't self-destruct and were the first to colonize North America. I know someone mentioned this before as an actual book, but even with all other kinds of "parallel world" stories (HIS DARK MATERIALS and THE PLOT AGAINST AMERICA being two off the top of my head), I just think a concept like SLIDERS can't go to waste. If GALACTICA and WHO can rise out of the ashes of obscurity and cheese and become the best bits of sci-fi tv on the air now, then I think SLIDERS could have a shot.

I actually thought that Remmy Brown's character developed quite well by the time the last season of Sliders arrived. In the beginning I didn't like him because he was casts as sort of a comedy-relief in the show, but later he was really good and took on a more leadership role. I HATED the Cromags! I thought it was a stupid idea from the start, and for me this was when the show took a bad turn. Also, I don't know about a remake. The actors are kind of old now don't you think? They would have to use a whole new cast of people in order to make it work.

I loved the idea of alternate realities. You could have endless TV shows about that if you had good plots, and you are right. A concept like Sliders can't go to waste....maybe someone will do a remake later on; who knows?

I remember as a child watching "The Time Tunnel" and it seemed to me that Sliders IS the Time Tunnel only sideways. Instead of traveling through time you are traveling through alternate dimensions but ending up in the same city. Good concept.

Some many good ideas and not enough time or money...

I loved it. I worked alot in the 90s on second shift so I missed alot of shows caught them on reruns. Seasons 3 it jumped the shark. But just a nice cast to watch. The key is every week you want to see them in your living room again and again. Time tunnel is a classic. I think all the originals have been made. Land of the Giants etc... They just remake them again and again. Firefly is Alias Smith and Jones in space. I have both box sets. I like the Cromag edge to it.

"Battle of Serenity, Mal. Besides Zoe here, how many-" "I'm talkin at you! How many men in your platoon came out of their alive".

I watched the first couple of seasons, but, like most everyone here, it got kind of weird for me after that. I never did like Maggie's character, and I hated that they killed off the professor. I didn't even see the last few seasons.

I agree with most everyone here about Sliders. I thought it was a great show and I really enjoyed watching it for the first couple of seasons. Then the cast started changing around and the story just got weird...I really didn't care for the Cromag thing.
