It isn't official yet, but according to Zap2it.com, it looks like Jericho is going to be canceled when CBS releases its schedule at their upfront presentation today.

"On the drama side, there was bad news for "Jericho," which appears to have seen a mushroom cloud go up over its hopes for a second season. Initially considered one of the surprise successes of the new season, the heavily serialized drama took an extended winter hiatus and returned to find no traction against FOX's ratings behemoth "American Idol.""

Gah, Patsrule!

And I was just getting used to Skeet Ulrich.

We were discussing Jericho over at serenitymovie.org a few days after the finale and the general consensus was that it would be cancelled due to what you mentioned above, and that's why Johnstone died.

I hate tv. I really do. Things like this make me not want to invest my time and effort in shows that are only going to be on for 1 season, or even less.

Crap on a stick.

Not a shock: it took what felt like a 17 year hiatus and then was up against Idol. Seems like a great recipe for losing momentum.

Yet another series doomed to end mid-cliffhanger.

I hate that. It should be illegal. Get me to watch shows and just not give me more when it gets interesting.. Its an evil thing to do. Deadwood, Carnivale, Drive, Firefly and now Jericho...

Just popped into my Yahoo mail and this is the headline in the Entertainment section, so it appears it is official...

CBS canceled the nuclear apocalypse drama, "Jericho," on Wednesday, another sign that television networks are shying away from serial dramas after overloading on them last season.

Well, I myownself will miss "serial dramas". Since they can't seem to hold their own against hiatus fever and the juggernaut that is Idol, then I guess we're doomed to mediocre tv. IMHO, I should add, as just because I'm a fan of the genre shows and non reality stuff, doesn't mean everyone is.

I liked Jericho.
I liked Drive too.

*sigh*

Actually, Deadwood wasn't cancelled. The creator of the show got bored and pulled the plug so he could develop a surfing detective show (yes, I'm seriouse).

MISSTRESSAHARA

Well it wasn't a show I could get into, from the beggining the people were idiots in the way they organised things after the bomb (or didn't organize) and the characters were getting from annoying to intolerable. It is too bad for the jericho fans though.

But so long as Heroes and Eureka are on tv, I won't be turning it off anytime soon.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gorram it to hell!!!! Jericho was one of the few shows on tv I watched. I really enjoyed it and they left off the season with a hell of a cliffhanger.

Now it's gone?!? How the hell could CBS seriously expect it to compete against Idol???

I love how the yahoo article mentions the long hiatus and then acts like it's the show's fault for failing.

Is there not half a brain cell in showbiz?!?

I loved this show. It wasn't like one of Joss' shows, where the characters draw you in immediately; it took awhile to really warm up to them, but by the end I completely had (Stanley, Jimmy, Bonnie, and Johnston being my favorites). But while most of the fans seem to want to put all their blame on CBS, I have to save a little for the show's producers, too.

They knew the show was on the bubble to be renewed. It's all well-and-good to be an optimist and believe you're gonna be back next year, but at the same time, go into the finale with a 'Well, what if this is it?' consideration, too. There was plenty that could've been left open-ended for future seasons, but the situation with New Bern absolutely should have had some resolution to it in the final episode. For a show I really looked forward to each week all season long (way more than "Lost", the only other scripted show I watch nowadays), it sure left me with a bad taste in my mouth at the end of it...

Well, I have rolled up my sleeves and have jumped into the fray with the save Jericho campaign. Seems TNT is interested in the show. Hopefully we can get them to pick it up.

Wish us luck.
