Now we all know that fans of Firefly and Serenity are called Browncoats (stating the obvious, but you never know....), but I was wondering what other nicknames are out there for other TV shows and films?

I know there are 'Trekkies' and 'Trekkers' for Star Trek.
Fans of Buffy are called 'Scoobies'.
Lost fans are called 'Losties'
I've also seen 'Whovian' used for fans of Dr Who.

But what about Stargate? Farscape? Angel? Babylon 5? Smallville? Superman? Batman? Supernatural? Harry Potter? LOTR? and the many others out there.

Do they even have nicknames?

JOSSISAGOD

I think Harry Potter fans are called "Potterheads."
Farscape fans are called "Farscapers" I think.
I can't tell you what the others are.

Transformers = Transfans
Farscape = 'Scapers
Stargate = Gaters
DS9 = Niners (subset of Trekkies)

I don't really belong to any other fandoms that have their own name.

I haven't heard of many, and I didn't watch many of the shows you listed but here's what I have found.

Starhunter fans: Trans-Utopians, Hunters, or Starhunters.

Galaxy Quest fans: I think are Questrians or Galaxians.

Space: Above and Beyond fans: Another rumour but I think I've heard them called the Angry Angels.

But these are smaller genres than say Star Trek, Star Wars or even Battlestar Galactica. I think Firefly got the Browncoats monicor due to the organizational skills involved and the fact that it was just plain addictive to ANYONE that watched it.

Plus it helped that one didn't have to be a predisposed Sci-Fi fan in order to like it.

America loves a winner!

In a lazy mood, I gotta ask... are there fan sites like this for Farscape and SG-1 ? Of course there are, but I've never even thought of seeking them out, even though I'm a fan of both.

Does that seem right to you ?

Anyone know some good sites for Farscape ? SG-1 ?

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I don't begrudge anyone their fandoms, and I personally loved Galaxy Quest...but it was one movie. Heck, at least we had half of a series and a movie, plus the comics and books and whatnot. Do Galaxy Quest fans identity as a fandom, and coordinate costumes (or whatever) at conventions? Or is it more low-key and in-passing that they use these nicknames?

EDIT: or are there games/comics/other manifestations I'm not aware of?

Don't make faces.

Well they have their own web-site. http://www.questarian.com/index.shtml.

I found it looking for blueprints of various Sci-fi spaceships. That's how I found out about Firefly too.

Not through their site per-se, but sites similar to it.

Not sure about sites, but there's a shiny Farscape podcast, run by Kevin Bachelder, same Kevin from The Signal and Firefly Talk.

The SG-1 site I go to is Gateworld ( www.gateworld.net). As far as I've been able to tell, it's the flagship fansite for the fandom, but it wouldn't be my first mistake...

Both have subforums on the Skiffy board.
There's one for Firefly there too, very active.

I don't know of an individual Farscape forum, but I have friends on the Appreciatin' Nathan crew who used to be 'Scapers and they'd know. I'll come back and post when I find out.

Went and looked and although quiet they look determined for now. Their motto is similar to ours.

No, I think you're right, Amiton... it is THE forum for Stargate fans.

By the by they have a subforum for Firefly over there. There are even some folks from over here over there. Including me.

There's also a BSG forum on the Skiffy site which Mark Shepherd has posted to. Very nice opportunity to go over there and communicate with him and maybe tell him what an awesome job he did on BSG!!

Oh, for reference the Skiffy main board addy is:

http://forums.scifi.com/

Lots of fun to be had over there.

The Starhunter site http://www.starhuntertv.com/ has a forum too. In the 'General Posts' section they discuss trying something similar to 'Into The Black'.

And Space: Above and Beyond http://web-worthy.com/saab/ in their Msg Boards, talk about Firefly and how it was a great show that suffered the same fate as their show.

And me!

As for BSG, we have oodles of fun on the BSG threads over at serenitymovie.org. There's also Dresden threads, Heroes threads, etc.

I also like galacticawatercooler.com. Their main forum is The Frak Party. With a name like that, you gotta check it out!

I don't know that they're official names, but over on the vote thread we've been referring to Xena: Warrior Princess fans as Xenites, and Bonanza fans as Bonanzai (or Oldtimers, but apparantly they think that ones derogatory, so we don't use it much (even though they call Browncoats Kids)).

Speaking as someone who is definitely not a "kid", I like being called one.
