Daredevil (the Director's Cut) was so much better than Superman Returns it isn't even funny. Better paced, better fights, more compelling drama, oh, and look, Daredevil had an actual story, heh heh.

All I will say is that Daredevil was WAY BETTER than Elektra.......and Cat Woman. hee heee heee

I am not a Superman movie fan, but I thought the new one was alright. Never could sit through the Christopher Reeve movies. (May he rest in peace)

I can see that for some, the first one was slow, the second one was too goofy, and 3 and 4 were practically worthless, but you should give the newly released Richard Donner Cut of Superman 2 a try if it comes by you on cable this year; it moved fast, and kept the goofy to a bare minimum (They chopped out all the stupid schtick added by the replacement director, Richard Lester). It was miles above Superman Returns.

Just sayin' Chrisisall

Daredevil was good. I like superhero stuff as long as its not french. Superman I think is an older generation thing for the baby boomers. I felt Supeman Returns was the best so far. Now Batman I like, man hero. Even with George Caloony Baloony. I watch discovery or history channel and Spiderman out sells all the other superheroes combined. I know every American boy under the age of 6 has spidy jammies. Everyone has their choice ya know.

I was really impressed with Daredevil, especially the "Sonar Vision".

Jennifer Garner was gorgeous, and Jon Favreau, Michael Clarke Duncan, Joe Pantoliano and even Kevin Smith were great in their roles.
I'm with Joss in that comedic actors work better in dramatic roles.

The special features on the DVD were great, too!
Jennifer Garner was adorable, and Ben Affleck had this really funny little quip about wearing the harness for the wire work, which went some'n like:
"You feel like you'll never be able to have children, but it's okay, because adoption is a route that I'm... okay with."
ROTFL!

I hear the Director's Cut is even better, so I'll have to scope that out!

It is SO worth the $10 Target was asking for, but get it at any price!! If you even SORTA liked the theatrical, the DC is a MUST!!!!

Totally. Daredevil gets a bad rap.

Having said that, I preferred the theatrical release of DD. Actually I think I'd have preferred some halfway cut between the theatrical and DC.

And in Superman's defence, Returns wasn't an origin story so the direct comparison is a little trickier.

In the DC the extra bits between Matt and his dad are good, and the sub-plot fleshes Matt out more, too. Also the bed scene with DD and Elektra is gone, and I thought that made much more sense, they only shot it so Ben and Jennifer could go all kissy-kissy, as they were fallin' for eachother

Actually, Ben and Jen 2.0 didn't get together untill he shot his cameo in Elektra. At the time of DD, she was still with Michael Vartan (also from Alias), and I think he had just started seeing Cartman's left hand.

Not that I care. I just had to post that for the quip at the end.

But the DC of Daredevil is pretty damned good, much better than the theatrical. I still enjoyed Superman Returns a lot, though.

I'm not a fan of superhero movies in general (except for Xmen), and Daredevil bored me to tears. The only thing that kept me from falling asleep was watching Sydney Bristow (sorry!) kick butt.

I was jus' funnin' anyway, but thanks for the dish, Storymark.

....Jen 2.0, hehe, I guess that's old now, but I never heard it, heheh.

DD is like Fantastic Four to me, good fun, but just a little more woulda made 'em great...3 outta 4 *

Superman returns...2.5 outta 4 *
(fix the underoos collar his cape tucks into, put the yellow 'S' on the back of a not-rubber-looking cape, wash his suit in colour-safe clorox to bring up the brightness, trim down the beating scene, and I'd put it even with DD)

Whereas I'd put DD(DC) and SR about equally, though they are very, very different films for being inb the same genre. I'd give them both about a 3 out of 4 as well.

I'd put FF at more of a 1.5 or 2.

And just for clarity, hthe superhero movies I'd rank as a full-on 4 are Batman Begins, X2 and Spidey-2.

Huh. While excellent, they'd be 3.5 to me. I'd put Superman, Superman 2 (Donner Cut), Batman, and Spidey as the full-on fours (If the Kingpin had been, you know, THE Kinpin, DD would be here too).

But we're in the same ballpark...

I thought MCD's Kingpin was great, even if it wasn't a direct translation of the character from the comics. And unless I'm mistaken, the DD character in the movie isn't a direct translation of the character from the comics either, is he?

THESOMNAMBULIST

Ok I'm going to have to play bad guy here. Soz Big 'C'

As yet I haven't seen the new Superman, basically because I've always found the character difficult to engage with. I mean he is INVINCIBLE! There is no drama. Ultimately that always permeates any supposed danger that may loom.

The one time I liked Superman was when he had that fight with his bad self in Superman three. That was quality.

Now DareDevil - One of my favourite characters from the comics of that kind so I was looking forward to this. But for me this film fails on so many levels, but where it doesn't work is in the unnecessary short-hand within the genre that has reduced comic action films to simplistic outlandish action set pieces with no sense whatsoever. There has to be some sort of grounding, or engagment with the reality we have in order to then begin to feel for that character and those extraordinary predicaments. Frankly the whole premise becomes as pointless as the inevitable leather suited costumes all these guys prance around in.

Top that with Ben Afflecks 'persona' and the whole film becomes a quick gulp of some tasteless food you feel compelled to eat so as not to embarrass the host.

I know this looks harsh but I generally feel the comic genre has been handed over to a bunch of film hacks who just want to throw some flashy visuals at us.

Enough now. Can we please have some care, time and love put into this format.

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

I wasn't too impressed w/ DD at first. Then I re-watched it later on, and I was still unimpressed, but not as much as before. If DD is better than SR, then I've saved $ and time by not watching the latter. Besides, it's just a remake, more or less, of the Christopher Reeve movie. Even though I like Kevin Spacey, I skip this version.

When will Jurassic Park be remade ?

" Raptors? You bred Raptors ? "

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

I love the actor, but Kingpin has Spider-man-level strength, and DD just can't win hand to hand with him. BIG change from the comics...

I was surprised how faithful to the Miller DD this was (I was a fan), and I think it hit a lot of good marks for the fans, although non fans might have had lots go over their heads...

Did ya see the Director's Cut? It was a whole different animal than the theatrical...

DD would have been best served as a series by Joss, but then what really wouldn't?
Big old-time DD fan here, and apart from Kingpin's lack of superior strength, and DD's neck being exposed, I thought it was about as good as a movie on the subject could be (plus, my friend is in a fight scene, heh heh). It was a little like Serenity in that a whole lot was stuffed into a little space.
And I get what you said about throwing flashy visuals, I just saw (read into-?) more there than you did, S.

To be fair, that IS just my personal take, your milage may vary.
But if you want to spend your $ REALLY well, get the Richard Donner Cut of Superman 2, it might surprise you.

KP in the comics was 'hit you with a car' strong, this one was within extreme human parameters.
