SIRI

I discovered this cancelled series after the fact and immediately bought the DVD. I don't know if it's really sci-fi - more like super hero spoof. Still I thought it was hilarious and couldn't imagine why it got cancelled. I don't have cable and totally missed it. Watched a couple of episodes at my brother's house and laugh every time I think about it.

I never saw the live-action version, but everyone I talked to who'd seen it said it paled in comparison to the animated version.

Thank the stars it's finally come out on DVD!

EDIT: And I'm sure you're aware that The Tick's creator, Ben Edlund, has done a few other things of interest to this board...

Woman, you are completely off your nut.

I assume you're talking about the live action series and not the cartoon. I gotta say the live action one cracked me up. I loved that they picked Patrick Warburton from Seinfeld to be The Tick. Can't say I liked it as much as the cartoon cause the cartoon is one of THE most hillaious things I have ever seen. But the live action series was definitely a good laugh. Got that one on DVD myself.

Check me on this, but the last time I looked, the DVD was missing an episode from Season 1. I think it's the "Mole Men" one, with the Cindy Crawford lookalike who falls in love with the Mole King.

KEEN!

Edit: I don't think you can find the dvds on eBay anymore, since they finally came out with them, but the talking Tick figures are out there sometimes.

So who is he?

IMHO It is impossible to appreciate Jaynestown fully without knowledge of The Tick. Same goes for Angel's choice of lethal flatware, of course.

Yes, I was talking about the live action version. I've not seen the animated but heard about it. I also didn't realize there was an episode missing "Mole Men" huh?

One of my favorite lines was "No pun intended." "None comprehended." and "Crazy talk! Crazy talk!"

I'll have to check out the animated.

Hmm, the live action version? In that case, I must retract my previously tracted “SPOOON!” on the bases that the live action version was dumb. The cartoon, on the other hand, was golden. Pure golden.

I loved the animated version. I didn't think I'd like the live action, but it grew on me. I think the concept was a bit too quirky for t.v.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

OK - now I have to get the animated version so I can see what everyone is talking about. I'm gonna need a second job to pay for all this stuff I'm buying.

Got Browncoat and Serenity Tees this week. Waiting for soundtracks from FF and Serenity and thinking about how many of the series to buy for Holiday gifts this year.

Best Comic Hero show ever!

I'm actually working on a card game idea based on the live action series.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Watched the live action and the toon. Dug them both and have them on dvd.

I got the DVD set the day I found out it existed. I had not ever seen it on TV. Never really got into the cartoon though. I catch it once in a great while but it just never quite hooked me in.

Anyone else ever read the "Cerebus the Aardvark" comic books?

There was a character that showed up in those called "The Roach" that was done well before any mention of the "The Tick".

The similarities are striking.

Not complaining, mind you. Just observing while getting great laughs at both.

Bat Manuel rules!

And Warburton has long been one of my favorite actors. He's only on for a few seconds, but who else could play Hymie on Get Smart and nail the part quite so well?

There was one episode where the Tick decided he needed a battle cry, and then soon after, sitting at the coffee shop, he was fascinated by his distorted reflection off the back of his coffee spoon.
