Are you serious? I think Farscape is the best written Sci-Fi show ever; but, more importantly, I think it is also the funniest.

David Kemper and Rockne have both said that Farscape is first and foremost a comedy. I find Stargate, no offense, to be completely bland and "American." There's an edge to Farscape that has never been seen before or since.

But, as always, these are just opinions!

I'm also a Scaper and I don't really think it's mostly comedy. to me it was always the mix of comedy and drama that captured me. it manages to go from heartbreaking drama to comedy in one minute and back again in the next. and it has a real life feel to it that lots of 'normal american' series like all the Star Treks or Stargate or Babylon 5 don't have. don't know how to describe it. it's messier, not so sterile, lot's like Firefly in that regard.

what I detest most is people that have seen half an episode here and there, haven't understood any of the story and decided it was "muppeds in space". it's not. it's the same with Buffy, people not having seen enough to get it and deciding it's stupid by just seeing a blonde teenager fighting vampires *rolleyes*. that's not what Buffy is about and funny muppeds and weird looking aliens is not what Farscape is about.

I just like to rant on that one, just ignore me, if your valid oppinion might differ.

I actually tried to explain the Angel finale to my brother the other day who has long ridiculed me and my wife's love for the Buffyverse, and he got lost!

I tried to explain who the Black Thorne Circle were, and how they were the hands of Wolfram and Hart, etc, etc, and he just couldn't believe how in-depth the story was and how much background knowledge he needed just to appreciate the final line about slaying the dragon.

That's pretty much the same response I get when I talk about the whole "Life is the Big Bad," syndrome from Buffy 6. People just don't understand metaphors can exist in television; it doesn't always have to be WYSIWYG.

Let me edit that: I had hoped Firefly could take that mantle from the fallen Farscape. Firefly was almost there, and could have been edgy enough to overthrow Farscape. But, given each show's respective collection of episodes, I think Farscape far outweighs Firefly as a cutting-edge sci-fi show.

Of course, a lot of people like to say Firefly isn't even a sci-fi show anyway. Which I mostly agree with.

I thought the new eps of Stargate were to start early July? (along with SG: Atlantis)

Farscape - what is there to be said? In my (naturally humble) opinion, Farscape was probably one of the most adventurous shows to come along at that point. - I just can't wait for the mini-series.

I'm a huge fan of Farscape and have been since the BBC picked it up long before SciFi got their slimy hands on it. Nothing since Babylon 5 finished had grabbed my attention the way this did. And it also gets my back up that folks only watch one or two epsiodes and decide that they didn't like, more like it made them have to use their brains to actually follow what was going on! Sadly it doesnt look like the beeb will get to air the new mini series and Sci Fi over here well, I doubt they'll pick it up either. I also watch Stargate, its fun and chirpy and yes its very american but it does have a certain charm. I will reserve judgement on Atlantis till I actually see it though.

I like Stargate for entertainment value because the story is interesting. Sometimes they do something really neat.

Farscape, is genius, of course, although sometimes goes a little nuts in the theater of the absurd direction. That's what makes it so fascinating, but that's also what led to its undoing when people thought it was too weird to follow. The only problem I really had with Farscape was the way the finales always had this massive cliffhanger and you were like, "How the hell are they getting out of that one?" But the premieres always had some lame solution, like: he wasn't really dead! or: they were rescued somehow!

Okay, this is karma, right? Just because we got the final episodes of the show first, you guys get the mini-series before someone even buys it over this side of the pond.

Still, at least the BBC website is still up - if you want to learn to swear like one of those language tapes, follow this link:

Couldn't agree more - some of the episodes were so ambitious in scope - something that few SF shows risk doing. I'm thinking of that shot of Scorpy standing on the steps of the battleship as water pours down and the music swells. Damn I need to spend far too much money on the DVDs because the beeb shows no signs of repeating...

AHEM!!! This site has places 'reserved' for threads about other shows!

I LOVE FarScape and I am 40 - but I do admit to being a tad biased - Dave Elsey is a great guy to chat with.

Trouble with the BBC is that they insist on showing sci-fi in the 6pm slot. I love Farscape. However, I do not think it is suitable for very young children, of which I have two. This meant I missed the last two seasons. I am glad sci-fi has it so I can catch up. Don't forget Sci-fi also brought us Firefly.

Totally agree with you on the BBC showing stuff at 6pm which just shouldn't be aired - however Farscape was cut for the 6pm slot as I discovered when Sci Fi started to show it. And they muck about with schedules so often its annoying - hence the reason I got cable put in. And for every good show on Sci fi channel over here there are another ten that are truly awful. I know they showed Firefly over(which I will be forever grateful) here but they were responsible for cancelling Farscape - on a cliff hanger no less!! Which they are at least now putting right.

We got a room - you're the one Peeping Tomming

I'd agree Farscape is an acquired taste; one for those with a finer palette perhaps, but its proper adult science fiction and it aims high - means it falls down sometimes, but I'd rather see a show take risks than not.

that's a real good explanation. it's adult SciFi aiming for the stars and sometimes even hitting them but then sometimes not. and the best thing about it is we scapers can't even agree when it hit and when it failed. it's just at the egde all the time and personal taste decides the hit and miss. it's taking more chances than any other SciFi show. sometimes it's too much for me and sometimes it's too much for someone else but it's never boring and all the same again.

and to answer the age thing: I'm 28

Heck, I've said before following the arc is tough enough for a fan at points, but when people suggest its just muppets in space, I point them in the direction of the Two Crichtons arc - an extended "twin" episode which left the lead characters permanently changed and was intensely emotional.

Besides, any show in which every character has at least six different names is fine by me
